View Full Version : How did you come up with your SO user name?
steevo 04-03-2009, 12:05 AM I noticed a lot of unusual, yet cool, user names on this board. How did you come up with your name (referring, of course, to the ones who don't just use their regular names ;) ?
I'll start. I came up with the name steevo out of two things. First, obviously my name being Steve, a few people at work would call me steevo when they wanted me for something. What the heck, I took it as a compliment. Also, this is silly, but it rhymes with tivo, which I use to record shows frequently.
I'm guessing a lot of user names have to do with hobbies or likes.
Marvo301 04-03-2009, 12:11 AM I just added an o to the end of my name. And then just in case there might be another Marvo here I added an easy to remember number(my apartment number) thus ending up with Marvo301.
Hollow 04-03-2009, 12:23 AM i had recently developed a fascination with safety pins. it's too great of a name and i've been going by it for so long, i don't think i'll ever change it again.
Big C 04-03-2009, 12:28 AM FSU stands for:
Frequently
Stating
Ubiquetous Opinions
Also, I was a Florida State football fan back when they were awesomely good.

Family Ties Forever! 04-03-2009, 12:49 AM I love the show Family Ties. I probably always will like it so I decided on Family Ties Forever!
I've had other usernames in the past that always consisted, at least in part, with part of my first naem Jen (Jenny).
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 04-03-2009, 01:02 AM Pleasant tomorrow comes from the phrase "Goodnight and have a pleasant tomorrow" which was said at the end of SNL's weekend update by Chevy Chase and also later Tina Fey and Jimmy Fallon.
I'm almost kind of due for a change now that I think about it but, meh. It's too difficult getting everyone to become familiar with your new name. I've only ever had one other, *A TV People* which was just my 12 year old way of talking like a moron in saying 'a person that likes TV.' Actually the story behind that is that those stars represent an action happening in the internet world I guess like *eats crackers* or whatever, you know what I mean, and I originally wanted *Likes TV*...but it was either taken or I changed my mind? I dunno, and the stars just stayed.
ekkostar 04-03-2009, 08:21 AM I was a satellite nerd for a while and I loved the name of Dish Network's transponder system Echostar. Of course I couldn't validate Echostar, so I had to opt for the dopey alternate spelling Ekkostar.
I just have to say I hate it in chat rooms when people call me "Ekko", it makes me nerd rage. IT'S ONE WORD!
MonarC 04-03-2009, 08:37 AM At the time when I joined, Mariah Carey had come up with her own label "MonarC Music" so I used MonarC as my username since I love MC so much.

PZelda 04-03-2009, 08:48 AM It's the shortened form of Princess Zelda (my fave character from the Legend of Zelda series for Nintendo), because I wanted to come up with something that would be original. I've been playing Zelda games for nearly 22 years now -- I turn 24 this summer, so I was raised on Nintendo. :) I've been going by that username for more than a decade now.
Theda Bara 04-03-2009, 08:49 AM I came up with the screen name because ( at the time) I was in the Hollywood area (like every Thursday or the weekend). Chic, because I am also into fashion and have my own, unique style, and Rock is in reference of I being a music lover (and rock and roll being one of my favorite genres).
catlover79 04-03-2009, 09:49 AM I love cats (and have three) and I was born in '79. So there you go.
Penny Lane 04-03-2009, 10:50 AM It's fairly obvious. But for those who might not know Penny Lane is the name of the great Beatles song.:)
Sharop 04-03-2009, 11:02 AM Sharop was a name I had for a character in a story or script that I was planning to write (it never came to fruition.)
I've done it several other times with other character names. On some forums I've used the name Tap since I've written a story where the principal character is a guy named Tap Canfield. Orrie is another one I've used as there was a boy named Orrie in another story that I wrote.
I've thought about changing my username at times too. Maybe I will at some point but like Pleasant Tomorrow said, it would take people a while to get used to a new name after all this time.
robyrob 04-03-2009, 11:51 AM the gypsies gave it to me in exchange for a nifty potion.
MickeyMac 04-03-2009, 12:11 PM My name comes from my name. Mickey McIntosh. I had a friend who started calling me MickeyMac, so I use that on different forums including this one.

I am very familiar with Rte 8 - my grandparents lived in Walton Hills so we used that route quite often. :D

gidgetgrape 04-03-2009, 08:31 PM Gidget comes from the 1965 tv series, Gidget. Grape comes from the 1993 film, "What's Eating Gilbert Grape?"
Doodyville10019 04-03-2009, 09:45 PM "Doodyville" is the name of the town where everyone lived on Howdy Doody (BTW, Howdy is my present avatar), and "10019" is the ZIP code of the studio where Howdy was done - first live, then taped when the show moved to Saturday mornings beginning in mid-1956 until its end on September 24, 1960 - just about one month before I was born.
Doodyville10019 04-03-2009, 09:52 PM My name is James and last name starts with "G".
There you go.
And I STILL think you've got the most awesome avatar I've seen yet on SO!
phoebe7165 04-03-2009, 10:08 PM I didn't want to put my real name because I had a problem with this jerk on another message board. I had a dog named Phoebe(named after Lisa Kudrow's character on Friends) at the time. She has sinced passed on. I thought about changing my username but I'd like to keep Phoebe's memory alive. 7165 is my ex-boyfriend's b-day. I thought of changing that, too, but I haven't yet. Don't know why.
Brad Russ 04-03-2009, 10:56 PM Given to me by a friend who knew I was a big Mel Gibson fan.

MrCleveland 04-05-2009, 01:34 PM At the time I joined, I felt like Cleveland. Not getting anywhere in life and always last...just like Cleveland, especially the sports teams.
I added the 'Mr.' on it, so I still feel like Cleveland, but the 80's and 90's had a boom in our city....That and I'm a Clevelander.
Cactus Jack 04-05-2009, 01:45 PM My Texas History teacher in 7th grade gave me this nickname for whatever reason LOL.
I originally started using it after Liza Minnelli, but after awhile, I just got used to it. I've always liked the name, so I use it everywhere now - not just online, but as my alias of choice (ie- whenever someone creepy asks my name and I don't want to tell them, I just say it's Liza.)

platinumblondelife 04-05-2009, 06:08 PM it's a song from No Doubt:

PlayOn 04-10-2009, 09:17 PM EricsUndeadFans is the name of the website I created devoted to Christian writer Eric Wilson and his creepy 'Jerusalem's Undead' trilogy.
Check it out: ericsundeadfans.webs.com
I'll change it, tho, once my months are up with this name.
beautifuldreamer 04-13-2009, 02:17 AM Well, I love the song "Beautiful Dreamer" lol. (Stephen Foster rocks!)
And, I absolutely love to dream! I was going to call myself "daydreamer" or "dreamcatcher," but I love music too, so I went with the song.:D
Wreckless 04-13-2009, 02:23 AM the gypsies gave it to me in exchange for a nifty potion.

I wish you could have posted more like the KYLE side instead of the Wreckless side
Wreckless 04-13-2009, 07:41 PM I wish you could have posted more like the KYLE side instead of the Wreckless side
Nah cause most of the arguments we get into, you start. Mostly bashing Philadelphia and it's teams. I have posted as Kyle many times on SO, just not as much on the Chit Chat forum, specifically the sports section.
bliggenstrauff 05-29-2009, 10:00 AM It's a made up name I thought of in high school.
Nighthawk76 05-29-2009, 12:56 PM Shine is the name of Martina McBride's current album. Which is wonderful. :D
