View Full Version : TV Land reaches a New Low!
McGillicuddy 03-13-2009, 03:22 PM  Tvland, Where have you gone. You're supposed to be the classic TV network, and you've made some crazy moves lately. But whats up with The Cougar? A new reality show with a bunch of men competing for an older woman. Whats this have to do with classic tv? When Nick-at-Nite/TVLand first came on the scene, it was the place to go to escape this kind of mindless/trashy show. You're really scraping the bottom of the barrel here. When I first saw the ad for this I thought I was watching MTV or Fox Reality, but TVLand???? I wanted to puke.
catlover79 03-13-2009, 03:26 PM I don't blame you - I'll puke with you!! puke:
robyrob 03-13-2009, 03:52 PM you know, if there is one good thing that I can say about TVLand, it would be that in comparison it makes the economy look not so bad!!!
ekkostar 03-13-2009, 04:55 PM WHERE'S MY NIGHT COURT? Oh, TV Land, please renew your contract with Warner Bros.!
catlover79 03-13-2009, 04:57 PM you know, if there is one good thing that I can say about TVLand, it would be that in comparison it makes the economy look not so bad!!!
It's scary how little that's saying.
TVFactFan 03-13-2009, 07:09 PM I haven't completely bailed on TV Land yet since they still air these shows back to back
Jeffersons
Cosby Show
So tv land has managed to find a way to keep me watching at certain parts of the day
BTW: who was the genius that thought a marathon of CSI would be a great idea?-lol
dakert 03-13-2009, 10:03 PM Tvland has blown since Chasing Farrah . I went back to the TVL message board after a 6 month hiatus and it is still the same silly nonsense.
Mr. Television 03-13-2009, 10:05 PM TV Land sucks....I can't believe at one time, I couldn't wait until my cable company added it to the lineup. It seems like a lifetime ago.
catlover79 03-13-2009, 10:28 PM Tvland has blown since Chasing Farrah . I went back to the TVL message board after a 6 month hiatus and it is still the same silly nonsense.
That was the turning point. Sorry Farrah, but I'd rather see you in Angels reruns than a reality show. ohno:
gilligan fanatic 03-13-2009, 10:56 PM I think the TV Land Awards ruined them. It was fun the first time, but all this original programing since then makes it no fun.
I did like the documentaries like TV Land Moguls, Inside TV Land, Top 10 was even ok. Everything else is pretty lame.
Oh, and the Alan Brady Show special stunk. It was a good idea, but it just didn't work.
treky 03-14-2009, 01:38 AM here we go; ANOTHER thread bashing TV LAND! (not that they don't deserve it)
I'll just add one thing that I read: they do read all the complaints about them, and every once in a while do something about them. The fact that in recent years they've brought back "THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES" and "HOGANS HEROES" is proof of that. Sadly though, they shred them to ribbons-they've even stopped showing the classic closing of "THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES".
MickeyMac 03-14-2009, 01:43 PM When TVLand abandoned their classic TV format it was the beginning of the end. That station is a sad joke. Dont forget they take out at least three to five minutes of a show to make more room for commericals.
Thanks for letting us fans of classic TV down, TVLand
dakert 03-14-2009, 02:05 PM Anyone see the Good Times episode "Florida's Protest"? Where Florida gets some bad meat from Borgens Market. Anyhoo
Borgens is like TVLand--giving viewers bad stuff
The Manager reminds me of TVTheLink --giving people the runaround
Florida is the viewers just wanting the good stuff
I would like to hear anyones elses thoughts on this.
David

I like that idea!!
dawsongirl 03-14-2009, 11:13 PM No matter what network The Cougar is on, it's a trashy, disgusting idea. Wasn't this tried on ABC once...Old Women after some young guy?
Anyway...I was baffled with the CSI:NY marathon. Love the show, but there's no way I'd watch it on TVL.
McGillicuddy 03-14-2009, 11:17 PM I like the TVland Awards, except last year I think it "Jumped the Shark" with the stars flying. That was really stupid. And as for the other TVLand original programing, at least all the other shows like Chasing Farrah, Inside TVLand, The Brady Bunch and Bob Newhart Reunions, they all had some angle to classic TV, how does "The Cougar" fit in with TV Land?
catlover79 03-14-2009, 11:17 PM What are TPTB at TV Land smoking, anyway??

I don't know. Was the cougar on Daktari? lol
TVFactFan 03-14-2009, 11:20 PM can't wait to see the TV land special when a bunch of young girls compete for a Older man
LOL
catlover79 03-14-2009, 11:24 PM I don't know. Was the cougar on Daktari? lol
Now there's a real blast from the past.
dawsongirl 03-14-2009, 11:36 PM I don't know. Was the cougar on Daktari? lol
Manimal.
catlover79 03-14-2009, 11:45 PM Manimal.
MANIMAL!! :brent I never saw it when it originally aired, but there are some hilarious clips on YouTube. Who green-lit that thing, anyway??
megamanj2004 03-15-2009, 04:32 AM Isn't it enough that CSI airs on Spike TV and/or TNT?
Why is TV Land picking up shows that are already on other channels?
I gave up on TV Land since they thought making a reality show about Farrah making a toal @$$ of herself was "Must See TV."
And I'm LOL-ing at those jokes made about the Cougar show!
Here's a mini-poem I made about The Cougar
Hannibal Smith had a plan. He was a man on a mission to try and get the A-Team to beam Scotty up to tell TV Land that The Cougar sucked. But when he did, TV Land sent a Cougar known as Mannibal ate Hannibal and killed off The A-Team and Scotty and the Star Ship Enterprise gang of Star Trek.
And like the series finale of "Murder She Wrote," they were murdered by the pressures of demographics.
Mr. Television 03-15-2009, 09:51 AM MANIMAL!! :brent I never saw it when it originally aired, but there are some hilarious clips on YouTube. Who green-lit that thing, anyway??
Probably someone from TV Land. No wait...that would be an improvement.
McGillicuddy 03-15-2009, 10:55 AM Next year The TV Land Awards should become The "Jump the Shark" Awards and they can give their own network an award for when they started showing mindless reality shows, starting with Chasing Farrah!
Torgo 03-15-2009, 11:46 AM Wasn't this tried on ABC once...Old Women after some young guy?
I thought Sex in the City was an HBO series?
Torgo 03-15-2009, 11:50 AM MANIMAL!! :brent I never saw it when it originally aired, but there are some hilarious clips on YouTube. Who green-lit that thing, anyway??
Brandon Tartikoff(head of NBC at the time) seriously, I remember him doing commercials to promote new shows and Manimal was one of them.

One of his few missteps.

Hey, I'd watch that show.
Dr. Thong 03-15-2009, 01:51 PM What are TPTB at TV Land smoking, anyway??
Rat poison.
Dr. Thong 03-15-2009, 01:52 PM I used to watch TV Land to escape from shows like Extreme Makeover.
Janice 03-15-2009, 03:20 PM I've just about given up on TV Land these days. The Jeffersons is the only reason for me to tune in.
MickeyMac 03-15-2009, 03:22 PM The way things are going on TVLand I wouldnt be surprised if they started showing Desperate Housewives and American Idol.

browneyes106 03-16-2009, 12:11 AM I have noticed that TV Land has been going downhill since Chasing Farrah. It's pretty funny my parents who are avid TVL watchers actually got into the High School Reunion series.

I agree the CSI franchise gets enough play on Spike and A&E. The Law and Order franchise gets overplayed on TNT and USA. There are several tv shows that get overplayed on cable. I thought it was cool a few years ago when TVL aired Highway to Heaven and Picket Fences.
TVFactFan 03-16-2009, 12:19 AM well let's give TV land credit tonight because they are showing Leave it to Beaver from 12 mid to 2am
MickeyMac 03-16-2009, 02:15 PM well let's give TV land credit tonight because they are showing Leave it to Beaver from 12 mid to 2am
True but the episodes will be edited to make room for more commericals.
Classicshowsgurl15 03-16-2009, 02:27 PM It's just sad that a channel that I used to watch old reruns of classic shows on, is now like any major network almost with so many reality shows on it. I grew up watching the shows on there in reruns(i'm 17) so I didn't see the shows in their original airings, but I am really disappointed in TVLand now. Half the movies they show on the movie land aren't even really family movies, most are R rated. I hope the TVLand Awards are good this year, but i'm not getting my hopes up.
rodwayne 03-20-2009, 05:01 PM Rat poison.Naw;rat poison too good for them!Seriously,I too couldn't wait for this channel to come on my cable network, but by the time it did,it was at the beginning of the end.Not only did I miss all of the great shows that was on at frist,I had to endure shows like CHASSING FARRAH,and all of the other fraces they claim its entertainment. To whom:train rats?Sure some of these shows are on DVD,but that not the point nor excuse to cleanse this network of its classics so that you can show some pooe excuse of a show like COUGAR.Yet,they claim rating for thses shows be high.I think whomever reading these numbers must be high!
