View Full Version : Any avid walkers/joggers here at S.O.?
Brad Russ 03-11-2009, 08:29 PM I've actually made walking a huge hobby of mine over the last 6 months or so. I find that it's a good way to relieve stress. I usually walk an average of five miles per day, which is about 11,000 steps. I know this because I have one of those pedometers that keeps track of It, and how many steps you take and everything. The recommended amount of steps that a person should take each day is 10,000, and so I always try to beat that by atleast 1000. lol! In the morning, sometimes I'll drive with my mom to her work, and then walk home, and that's almost exactly 4 miles. On a great day, I can walk up to 15 miles, but that's a pretty rare thing. Anyway, are there any other avid walkers/joggers/runners here at S.O.? Just curious.
spunkygirl 03-11-2009, 08:51 PM For about 3 years I didn't have a car to get around in and I had to walk EVERYWHERE.
So eventually I got used to walking and LOVE IT! I can't wait for the weather to get warm again so I can start walking as much as possible
MonarC 03-11-2009, 09:30 PM Walking is a great way to relieve stress. It also helps with depression. For me anyway. My family likes to go walking at least 3 times a week. We have a lot of beautiful parks around here and it always helps to just clear you rmind and breath some fresh air. Not to mention the great exercise. :)
LuLu Rogers 03-12-2009, 01:15 AM Tara's on break for Lent, but she walks AT LEAST 7 miles a day!! :faint:
OH Nuts! 03-12-2009, 01:32 AM I love to walk and NYC is a great city for it. If I have time in the morning I walk to work - its about 2.75 miles.

ponytail 03-12-2009, 06:40 AM I like walking. I never cared for jogging. Walking does make me feel better, plus when I walk a take a plastic bag with me and pick up trash.
MonarC 03-12-2009, 08:16 AM ^^^ That is awesome! Good for you!
catlover79 03-12-2009, 08:36 AM I should get more excercise - I think I'll start taking more walks when the weather warms up.
Brieannas21 03-12-2009, 03:08 PM I go running every morning, I have been doing this since High School.
browneyes106 03-12-2009, 04:46 PM I jog a few times a week. Usually I jog a mile each time.
MickeyMac 03-12-2009, 05:19 PM I usually go walking when the weather gets warmer, but not its too cold.
FOLrocks1 03-13-2009, 12:30 AM Actually this topic inspired me to get off my ass and walk a mile, then run another one. So 2 miles in total today on the treadmill. I hate it, but it's too cold to do it outside. So thanks lol. Hopefully I'll get back into my exercise routine.
catlover79 03-13-2009, 12:31 AM ^ Good for you!! :D
FOLrocks1 03-13-2009, 12:45 AM Thanks. I usually am a very active person, but since winter hit I haven't had much motivation to do much of anything, and I don't really like running on the treadmill. Or running period lol.
I love rollerblading though. Some days I'll go for hours. At least 8 miles. Hopefully once it gets warm I can do that again.

You're welcome FOLrocks1!!! I'm glad I was able to give you a little inspiration by starting this thread. :D I was actually hoping it would inspire people when I posted it, so I'm very happy to hear that it helped you.
Btw, from your picture, you look like you're in really good shape. Hopefully if I keep up my walking, and cut down on the sodas, I can get in better shape like you appear to be. I think I'll use you as an inspiration for myself!! :)

Yeah it actually made me sorta WANT to run. Which is a rare occurance, to WANT to do it lol. And I'm in pretty decent shape already, BUT I'm not as toned as I'd like to be...could always do with a 6-pack ya know? I had one throughout senior year of high school, but now two years later that's sadly gone lol. Although if I just consistantly DO SOMETHING about it...I'm hoping to get it back soon...at least before summer hits. Lol.
And I'm glad you're getting inspiration out of this too.
