View Full Version : Deep South/Mid-Atlantic snowstorm
Brent88 03-01-2009, 06:29 AM We're about to get snow here. Already snowing in Birmingham and Tuscaloosa. 2-4 inches expected by this afternoon, will be our first real snow this winter(ironically on the first day in March!) and could be the biggest in 11 years. Some places in Northwest Tennessee had over a foot last night.
Pictures when there's something to see. Pitch dark and nothing happening yet.
Fleet 03-01-2009, 06:37 AM Sounds like there will be quite a bit.
I'll wait for snow here where I live but I don't think there will be any (it was 77 degrees yesterday).

The funny thing is it was 70 degrees yesterday and I was thinking "no way". It's now 36 and starting to changeover.
Doodyville10019 03-01-2009, 11:39 AM Brent, it sounds like you're getting what we had in Chicago earlier last week...only for us it was flooding rain, dropping temps, then snow and subfreezing cold.
gilligan fanatic 03-01-2009, 01:42 PM They are calling for snow here in VA tomorrow. The funny thing is my Spring Break starts tomorrow too-lol
Chocoholic 03-01-2009, 01:47 PM We're getting snow, sleet, and cold here in NE too. I'm sick of winter! Global warming, my tucus...
Pavan 03-02-2009, 01:10 AM Snow started around 8:30pm ET tonight here. Now the big stuff is coming. 10 inches expected!
Scoobiedoo30 03-02-2009, 01:20 AM I guess all of Tonight Programming got Pre-Empted.
Not really any snow in West Virginia, but in Tennessee there was quite a
bit-Nashville in fact got 21 inches!
I guess all of Tonight Programming got Pre-Empted.
What does that have to do with snowy weather?
LuLu Rogers 03-02-2009, 01:48 AM We got snow here in North Alabama today, a couple of inches, but it had all melted by noon :(
Brent88 03-02-2009, 01:57 AM We also had about 2 inches, most of it fell in one hour of VERY heavy snow around 10am. We had one bout of THUNDERSNOW during the event which I had never seen before. I stayed up all night and as soon as the snow ended crashed for a nap but ended up sleeping 6 hours. The ground is still mostly covered right now.
Overall I'm happy but my sleep schedule is totally screwed up now. Oh and I have class at 11am with a test. YAY.

No, we are used to snow. This is winter. New York isn't New Orleans.

I am still trying to figure out what Aaron meant when he said all programming
got preempted.
Scoobiedoo30 03-02-2009, 01:20 PM I meant was Regural Programming Pre-Empted for Snow Coverage.
Pavan 03-02-2009, 01:50 PM I said NO. The local news devoted nearly the entire newscast to the snow. We don't have preemptions here for snow. Only at times we have special reports that last 2-3 minutes on the hour...but NOT in primetime.
Scoobiedoo30 03-02-2009, 03:00 PM so they had a 2 to 3 mintue weather update when we had Our Snow day they Pre-Empted Regural Programming.
Pavan 03-02-2009, 04:09 PM Aaron think about it. New Orleans barely ever gets snow. And when they do, it is not even 1 inch. Here in NY/NJ we are used to snow. Unless it is a blizzard, entire programming is not going to get preempted. Why do you care about preemptions? This thread is about the storm, not preempting programming.

Remember though Pavan, affliates might carry a program, but break in with local weather news. Since some parts of the south are to be involved, I can see that certain shows might be partially pre-empted. I think it's a valid question he's asking.
Even my local news has been carrying that a big storm is to hit the southeastern coast of the U.S.. O.k., they're not breaking in on shows for it at the moment, but if it was more north, there's a good chance that a Canadian station would be carrying a network show, but break in with "local" weather news if something significant was going on. Give the guy a break. ;)
Pavan 03-02-2009, 08:51 PM Aaron was asking if the entire primetime was preempted last night in NY, TripperFan. I am just saying that doesn't make any sense. Like I said, the local stations were doing 2-3 minute updates on top of each half-hour (at least on WABC) in the morning/afternoon today in NY, but not last night in primetime. Unless it is a blizzard, we don't get full preemptions here in NY/NJ...and I'm sure that is the case everywhere in the Northeast. The south...well that is a different story. An inch probably would cause for chaos, lol.

Pavanbadal, what is your problem? Give Aaron a break. I think he was asking
a valid question here and was not trying to get off the subject. Aaron has
autism and sometimes has problems communicating in the same way that
most of you people do. Give him a break, please.

LOL - actually it does! We used to laugh about it, but it's true, the poor guys don't have ANY of the equipment we do up here (as does NY of course). Imagine what it would be like with the ice storms and even a skiffing of snow? It would look like the break on a billard table!
That's what I was thinking - could be if some of it hit south enough, then stations Aaron might watch would be affected.
EmoJoe 03-03-2009, 12:47 AM we got like 7 inches here and i got off of school. i had to fly home from Disney World in the snowstorm...our flight got delayed. it was kinda nerve-wracking, it was a really bumpy flight...but im alive !
