In the sixth season, there was an episode in which Jack fell head over heals for a Southern Belle named Arebella. After she gave him the cold shoulder, he had the idea of sarenading her outside of her apartment. He throw a pebble in the window of the apartment that he thought was her's and mouthed the words to "You Are So Beautiful". He was holding a geutar that he pretended to be accompanying himself on. In the bushes, Larry was singing the words while playing his geutar. Unfortunately, he had the wrong apartment! The resident of that apartment was a fat lady named Burnese. She thought that the song and the invitation was for her and came to Jack's apartment for a date. To complecate matters more, Arebella felt guilty about how she had acted at the bar and showed up on the same night! Jack was really in a pickle! He tried his hardest not to hurt either girl's feelings. In the end, he realized that Burnese was the far more decent babe and so he told Arebella to go fly a kite! The thing that I was never able to understand about the situation was the fact that the two ladies acted as if there were seeing each other for the first time. Wouldn't they recognize each other if they lived in the same apartment building? It did not look like a big enough building for the two of them never to have crossed paths! Could Jack have gone to the wrong apartment complex altogether?

I know, we could assume that Arabella was new to the complex being that she was from the south and never met Bernice yet, but writers will always leave you wondering.

Uh not necessarily. Just because a guy has decency like he did, doesn't mean it was necessarily for love. He's just a nice guy. :)

I think that what was implied was that Jack felt that going on a date with a Plain-Jane like Burnesse as opposed to being nice to someone as rude and insensitive as Arabella was the lessor of two evils. However, after that episode, we never saw or heard mention of Burnesse again. It dose make me wonder whatever happened to her!

Because he got rid of a sexy thing

Smartboy

If the sexy thing that the last poster is talking about is Arabella, yes Jack did get rid of her. However, in addition to being sexy, she was also arrogant, overconfident and selfish. These were all characteristics that Jack found repulsive and this is why he told her to go fly a kite. Seeing Jack's decency made Burnesse even more attracted to him. In turn, seeing Burnesse appreciate his decency caused Jack to become attracted to her. This is why their date was a success!

A normal man would not have cared about her arrogance as sexy as she was

Or a man with sexual needs

I think that what the writers were implying is that Jacks decency was strong enough to outweigh his sexual needs. Good for him!

Maybe in real life, but the writers aren't going to do that with Jack's character. Remember, we're talking Three's Company here, not The Real World! ;)

EXACTLY. That is what is so fake about TV. There is no way in hell any heterosexual man would turn down a gorgeous doll like Arabella. Most men never get a woman like that their ENTIRE LIFE!!

To prove how horribly unrealistic it is I bet John Ritter never hung around with a lady like Burnice even in REAL LIFE yet he married a woman, Nancy Johnson, who looked a lot like Arabella. You can't include celebrities like Roseanne because Burnice was an ordinary woman although I doubt John hung around with Roseanne or Rosie O'Donnel.

You are SOOOOOOOOOOOO Right-lol No man in his right mind would have kicked out arabella and chilled with Bernice. And even if he did he would have atleast had sex with Bernice because it would be no point in letting the evening go to a total waste.

Not all guys are purely driven by sex. Some can overcome it if they have good enough morals. Rare probably, but it happens.

Both Nancy and Amy seem like nice, fun people to me and not snobby at all. Yes, they're beautiful, but then that's being stereotypical, too.

That's a good question. The only thing I can think of is if he included his address with the bouquet of flowers he threw up on Bernice's balcony.

I'm sure Arabella knew where Jack lived so it really wouldn't make any sense why Jack would include his address in the bouquet of flowers.

So Bernice really would not have not known where Jack lives! That's one of those fake things they do in tv shows just to complete the story they make up.

If I remember right, near the end of the episode, they shared a friendly hug or kiss and Jack said .."Friends?" and Bernice replied "..friends." (Neatly steering away from a romantic involvement the two characters.)

Yea but he wanted to make sure that she knew it was him so he probably included a formal invitation for dinner. It probably also included the time that she was supposed to come to his apartment.

They did NOT kiss or hug. They simply clinked champagne glasses.

You know in America we are obsessed with looks and a good looking guy like John Ritter is not going to hug much less kiss a beached whale like Burnice.

You just made my point. TV producers won't show a guy like Jack hugging or kissing a woman like Burnice. Looks and ratings are the bottom line and that's why Jack dates all those hot babes and not girls like Burnice.
