View Full Version : Season 1 this May? likewow 02-05-2009, 08:01 PM http://tvshowsondvd.com/news/Designing-Women-Season-1/11264 Here's hoping it's true! :) TV_Fan 02-05-2009, 08:20 PM Pretty sure it's true and pretty sure it's NOT coming from Sony. Kristen 02-06-2009, 12:35 AM Pretty sure it's true and pretty sure it's NOT coming from Sony. I don't get why you say it's not coming from Sony, but at this point, who cares? I'm SO glad it's coming at ALL. We've been waiting WAY too long for this! Pavan 02-06-2009, 01:04 AM I think Shout! is releasing this one, which is excellent news. We will get more seasons much faster than Sony ever would. Kristen 02-06-2009, 01:53 AM Whoa, that's awesome, Pav! :) And this means there'll prob. be extras, too, right? Thanks for the heads up! I hope we get an official announcement soon. - Kristen TV_Fan 02-06-2009, 10:01 AM I don't get why you say it's not coming from Sony, but at this point, who cares? I'm SO glad it's coming at ALL. We've been waiting WAY too long for this! All you have to do is look at the studio listing on the page at Wal Mart. Pav's right, and believe me DW fans are lucky it's NOT Sony who is releasing this or else you would never get passed season one ;) cajunhillbilly 02-06-2009, 10:50 PM I can finally stop watching my bootleg dvds. Although the set I have has decent picture quality, its from the TVLand reruns, so you know some scenes were cut out of each episode to make way for more ads. Edster2973 02-13-2009, 05:16 PM It is indeed true. Here's the link: http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Designing-Women-Season-1-Box-Art/11319 And yes, it's NOT coming from Sony, which is a good thing because we'd probably get Season 2 from them 5 years from now. The package art is gorgeous. I'm really looking forward to this release. Thank you Shout! Ed likewow 02-13-2009, 05:45 PM Beautiful! And so nice to know that the news is true! Thanks! Kristen 02-13-2009, 06:31 PM I'm excited, too! Can't wait for Amazon to put this up so I can pre-order. Thank you, Shout! Edster2973 02-13-2009, 06:40 PM I'm hoping Seasons 1 & 2 of "Valerie" come from Shout! before long. If it does, hopefully it won't come out as "The Hogan Family" Seasons 1 & 2. Either way, I'd love to have it. Gotta give Shout! a lot of credit. They're releasing some awesome series in the coming months. I just hope they sell well to warrant more releases. With the economy going the way it is, it is risky. Season 1 of "Designing Women" can't come fast enough! Ed TV_Fan 02-13-2009, 10:07 PM I'd love to see Valerie/The Hogan Family from Shout! also but it's not going to happen. At least not in the immediate future. They've already said it would be extemely difficult to try to license something from WB. But we have to remember that not so long ago everyone was saying Sony would never license their shows out, but look at what's coming now! Edster2973 02-14-2009, 09:12 AM I'd love to see Valerie/The Hogan Family from Shout! also but it's not going to happen. At least not in the immediate future. They've already said it would be extemely difficult to try to license something from WB. But we have to remember that not so long ago everyone was saying Sony would never license their shows out, but look at what's coming now! When did they say this? I don't recall ever seeing this. Do you have a link perhaps to the post where they've said that WB won't license anything out? I believe you, mind you; I'm just having a "foggy memory moment" right now. If WB holds off releasing the rights to "Valerie"/"The Hogan Family" but does nothing with the show itself, I fail to see the logic on WB's part in doing this. The very least, any company that they'd license the show to (like Shout!) would have to pay some sort of licensing fee/royalties. Then WB could collect $$ in that form in place of not getting anything at all. WB also has had little success in having the show syndicated. Methinks the wrongful firing of VALERIE HARPER made more of a mess for the producers than they anticipated. Many prefer the "Valerie" era to the "post-Valerie" era simply because the writing was sharper, but there are more SANDY DUNCAN episodes to fish around. I love SANDY DUNCAN and there were many gems with the episodes she starred in, but the writing overall was much more exaggerated and silly than it was during "Valerie". I think SANDY deserved better in my opinion. In any case, I think it's why the show is hardly remembered except for us few die-hards, which is a pity. I still think it warrants a DVD release and I still hold out hope that we'll get it. There was a time when "Designing Women" looked like it wouldn't come out except for the "Best Of" collection from a few years ago (which I've watched to death by the way). I'm elated that we'll finally see this great show in UNEDITED form. I love LIFETIME for the many years it aired the show but even they had to make edits to accommodate more commercials. How is Shout!'s record in releasing follow-up seasons for their shows? Are they still too new to judge? I'm just hoping they don't take forever to release Season 2 (man, how greedy do I sound!!!!). I know it's a ways off, but I hope it's fairly consistent with releases. Even if not, at least we're getting Season 1. A couple of months ago, it didn't look like that was a possibility. YAYYYYYY!!! Ed Kasey 02-14-2009, 09:26 AM Shout is one of the best companies for following through. They will be completing the five-season run of "That Girl" in May, which will have taken three years. They also are soon releasing Season 3 of "Father Knows Best" and it's only been about one year since Season 1 of that show. I think DW will sell well enough for them to keep up the pace. I just hope they don't cop out on us post-Delta fans. Seasons 6 and 7 are my favorites but I know I'm the minority and am not holding my breath. I had no idea that Shout! was responsible for the releases of "That Girl", a show I remember fondly but have not gotten around to buying just yet. Knowing that they're the company releasing it endears me more to that company. They're really great. While Seasons 6-7 are NOT my favorites overall, there are still many decent episodes from that season, and I don't think Shout! will necessarily skip out on those. While many didn't take to Julia Duffy's character (Alison), many liked Judith Ivey's character (BJ Poteet), so eventually they should see release unless sales bomb on previous seasons or if *shudder*, Shout! goes out of business. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. In any case, I don't think it's part of their plans to deliberately NOT release Seasons 6-7. In fact, perhaps they may even include the DW reunion that occurred on Lifetime a few years ago at the end of Season 7. They may count on that luring fans who feel Season 7 is lacklustre to buy the set. Who knows? Just don't give up the ghost just yet... :) Take care, Ed TV_Fan 02-14-2009, 11:43 AM When did they say this? I don't recall ever seeing this. Ed Brian Ward from Shout! said that about WB in this thread: http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?t=237855&page=3 post #41. WB has a terrible track record with their shows and they really should start licesning out. As for Shout! they have a terrific track record. They released all seasons of Punky Brewster (pretty sure DW will sell more than PB), will be completing That Girl this year, and already announced seasons 3 of Father Knows Best & Adam 12 (which has abandonded by Universal). They've also already completed McHale's Navy. I don't think DW fans have anything to worry about. Of course a lot of the classic/vintage stuff isn't going to sell as well as the recent stuff, but they still can't let their classic TV fanbase suffer. I do applaud WB for giving Knots Landing another chance, though, but I have a sick feeling that sales still won't be up to their standards and am not holding out much faith in them releasing all the rest of the seasons. Shout! Factory is so awesome at catering to the classic TV fanbase. I think both Sony and WB should let them distribute their entire classic TV show libraries instead of letting them sit on the shelves and collect dust. likewow 03-20-2009, 04:14 PM Here's the official word! http://tvshowsondvd.com/news/Designing-Women-Season-1-Press-Release/11524 likewow 04-07-2009, 04:46 PM And some clips to watch! http://tvshowsondvd.com/news/Designing-Women-Season-1-Video-Clips/11630 funnyguylaughs 05-19-2009, 06:08 PM Hey everyone, I saw the first season in stores already (even though they are not suppose to). It was at BestBuy. likewow 05-19-2009, 07:33 PM That's exciting! Part of me wants to rush out and get it even though I've ordered it online ;) user296686@aol.c 05-25-2009, 07:01 PM While Seasons 6-7 are NOT my favorites overall, there are still many decent episodes from that season, and I don't think Shout! will necessarily skip out on those. Seasons 6 and 7 were not among my faves. I personally will only order seasons 1-5. They are the only ones I would have any interest in. While I liked Julia Duffy as an actress at the time (I loved her on Newhart), I did not care for her character on Designing Women. I have always liked Jan Hooks and could have become more endeared to her character. However, I did not like the way the characters of Julia (Dixie Carter) and Mary Jo (Annie Potts) changed after Suzanne (Delta Burke) and Charlene (Jean Smart) left the show. It seemed like they tried to make Julia and Mary Jo the crazy, funny ones and it just didn't work for me. I loved Suzanne and Charlene too much and Julia and Mary Jo had been the "serious ones" for too long to change the way they did. I did give it another chance after BJ (Judith Ivey) joined the team. I really kind of liked her character, but I think she was too little, too late. At any rate, I am SOOOOOOO glad DW is finally going to be released. I kept waiting and waiting and could never understand why other shows were being released and not DW. I have already pre-ordered season 1 and will swiftly do the same for seasons 2 - 5 as soon as they are available. Thanks Shout!. likewow 05-25-2009, 09:22 PM Reading your post, I felt like I wrote it myself :) You said all the things I've been feeling, especially about the long wait we had for DW on DVD. Finally! Season 6 could charitably be described as a disaster. Season 7 had a couple of fun Bernice moments, but it's the original cast that made the show. I'll buy all the seasons with that cast, except maybe season 5, but that's because I started recording the show then! ;) user296686@aol.c 05-25-2009, 11:50 PM Reading your post, I felt like I wrote it myself :) You said all the things I've been feeling, especially about the long wait we had for DW on DVD. I have lots of episodes recorded from seasons 1-5 on VHS and even though I'll have my DVD's (I'm so excited  ) I'll still hold on to my tapes. But if I had had a way of recording on DVD at the time they were doing the reruns, I would have done that too! So good for you for being able to do that. I am so excited about being able to replace my dinosaur VHS recordings :) Take care, Pam |
