Oh sh*t, how the hell did I miss those 3? lol. I listen to, and love the 3 you mentioned as well. Although I wasn't much for Flavor Flav. That damn clock, his goofiness and general personality offset the group and wasn't enjoying to watch in my mind lol. Funny guy though.

Back then, it made you enjoy the music more, with the energy, respect and confidence being put into the songs. N.W.A, Public Enemy and Pac in general weren't afraid to tackle interesting and cornered subjects.

Speaking of EPMD and all this chat, in addition to what I said in the above post, Kool, did you ever see the movie Juice? lol. One of my favorite movies overall but I just pictured the scene where the 4 boys are stealing the EPMD record from the store, while the one dude talked to the chick while they left with the stolen record LOL. Anyways, that scene was great and the record they stole was a EPMD one.

Nice, I own the movie on dvd as well. That's nuts lol (in a good way) that we both thought the same thing, when posting about the old school hip hop subject. Yeah I do post in both forums occasionally. I like to post threads with a poll, to get everybody's opinion on what movies and music I love and enjoy lol. Yeah definitely, I love music & movies. That's probably my favorite all time rap/hip hop movie as well. Old school Cypress Hill is in that movie.

Well, I think that perception has changed a bit over the years. They are not as hated as they were back in the '80s. Though I've never hated them at all - I love their music. Every decade of it.

I think the NHL or hockey is another thing. It's not HATED but not a lot of people watch it, in comparison with football, baseball and basketball definitely. A lot of people go to games around the US, watch it and even play it, but the popularity of the NHL has fallen, especially since it's been taken off national channels, ESPN/ESPN2 and ABC. I used to love it on ABC, the broadcasts, excitement and games were great. Anyways, not hate for it, just not many people like it in comparison with the 3 other sports nation wide but is still popular enough for many people to enjoy it, watch it & be able to go to games, like myself. Go Flyers!

I totally disagree. Hip hop is an art. I would give that reign to country or that crap they call screamo. Screaming like an idiot, for nobody to hear or understand you, is not music.

i hate screamo music. i think most rock from this decade is pretty terrible in general. it's all really generic sounding.

i used to HATE rap and hip-hop but lately i've grown to appreciate it more...it's still not my favorite genre but there's definitely some really good hip hop songs out there. i dont really like straight up rap though.

I like some rock from the last decade, but definitely not that kind of music. I think rap gets a bad RAP lol. If people stay away from these artists and are exploring and liking rap/hip hop even more and more as they listen, they might like it more.

Most of the mainstream rock of the last 15 years has not impressed me one bit. There is however a group of bands/artists that have come along since the 80's who are heavily 50's and 60's music influenced and a lot of those bands have really knocked me out.


Also sports is something real popular that I can do without. To me its snoresville zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Yeah I know what you mean & I agree. T.I. is real good. With that being said, it sounds like you like more easy going hip hop. Not the hardcore Tupac, NWA kind of stuff or maybe I'm wrong. Other light hip hop artists I would suggest to listen to are MIMS, Outkast- specifically Andre from Outkast and both as a group & Rakim.

I think in part you are correct. I that during the 1980's they revieved so much unfair criticisim. It shows how fickle the American public can be. Between 1977 and 1979 the Bee Gees were the biggest act in the land and by the early 80's most of their audiance had turned on them. Just think, in 1983 "The Woman In You" failed to make the top 10 and "Someone Belonging To Someone" failed to make the top 20, but Frank Stallone's "Far From Over" became this massive hit. In the film Staying Alive most of the Bee Gees music is only played in the background where as Stallone's is up front and center. It's true that many people began to appreciate the Gibb Brothers once again starting in the mid-1990's, but they still get a lot of grief from people. I actually had a college professor who blammed the Bee Gees for the failure of his first marriage. I'm serious.

Well, the thing is, here in Canada, there's no sport more popular or as watched as Hockey,,,its VERY popular HERE! Because of this, basketball (Which shares the same season...and arenas as the NHL) is about as popular as B.O., here in Canada, and gets miniscule ratings!:lol: (I personally hate both basketball and Football)

As for hated teams...the most hated NHL teams are the Toronto Maple Leafs, NY Rangers, Detroit Red Wings and my own Montreal Canadiens (All extremely popular, but also very hated by fans of rival teams!)

Ugh...I just don't get the popularity.

american idol is an evil force that once you watch you cant stop, no matter how hard you truly do want to. it just keeps sucking you back in. trust me i know from experience :( but luckily i havent been watching it as much this year so maybe im finally breaking away from its evil spell !

its sad though, if youve never watched it i suggest never doing so. although its at least introduced me to some great people. :)

I dont either. I used to date this girl that watched American Idol. She liked it and that was fine with me, and she even had me watching for a few episodes but its not my cup of tea.

With a few exceptions, it just doesn't seem to make "idols", just mediocre singers. And people who don't win do better than those that do sometimes, like Chris Daughtry.

Oh well.

^ With the exception of Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood, it seems like no one else has really had chart longevity. Of course, Jennifer Hudson won a Golden Globe and an Oscar, but she was never in the top tier on Idol.
