View Full Version : John Stamos Planning A 'Full House' Remake?
Brian Damage 12-04-2008, 11:51 PM The cast of 90s sitcom Full House is planning to return to the small screen in an up-to-date version of the show that launched the careers of the Olsen Twins.
Mary-Kate and Ashley found fame sharing the role of little Michelle Elizabeth Tanner in the comedy, which ran from 1987 to 1995. It also made stars out of cast members Bob Saget, John Stamos, Jodie Sweetin, Davie Coulier and Candace Cameron Bure. And Stamos is plotting to reunite at least some of the cast for a "semi-remake."
Cameron Bure tells OK! Magazine, "John has been working on a semi-remake of Full House. I know it would involve me and Jodie Sweetin. We would revive our characters, but today as young women."

Jude The Obscure 12-05-2008, 12:33 AM Ok, they decided to skip the Tanner Family variety hour and go straight for the Tanner Brides!

Scoobiedoo30 12-05-2008, 01:25 PM will Danny still be Single and will Jesses and Joey still be living with Danny
DSfan 12-05-2008, 06:34 PM Nobody ever said it was a done deal yet, just that John Stamos might be planning it.
I found it hard to believe that he would really be the one initiating a remake of the show when it was him that decided to leave and stopped them from making a ninth season.
I highly doubt it will be a worthwhile show, however, if it ends up happening. All remakes/spinoffs just take away from the original because you're watching it expecting the same thing so instead of just watching a rerun you try to watch the new one but all you think about during the spinoff are your memories of watching the old one. I don't know if you guys feel that way about spinoffs but that is exactly what happened for me when I first tried to watch Joey.
JulieSomoski 12-05-2008, 06:55 PM I actually think this is a fantastic thing - this was actually a rumor a couple weeks ago (I was discussing it on another board), and this is the first news of it actually being real.
I think it would be even better if ABC could snatch it up for as early as next season. They're lacking bigtime in the sitcom department, and this could be the show to revive the family sitcom format on television. If it sticks to the original premise, just modern and grown-up, then I think it could work.
And if it does, I'd hope to see other sitcom remakes - wouldn't it be great to see Roseanne return to primetime television again?
TeeVeeCloset 12-05-2008, 07:57 PM I can't imagine this going to series, perhaps it would be a pilot movie or special..probably for ABC Family....remember ABC Network did make two growing pains movies!

It sounds more like a remake of the show, as in an actual series rather than just a televised movie. This does sound serious, though, especially with both Stamos and Candice commenting on it. Sounds like everyone's interested in doing it again, too (god knows their careers could use a bump). I have hope for this - I doubt anything will be ready by next fall, or even next winter, though.
ryan423 12-05-2008, 09:00 PM Technically not a remake if the same characters will be reprising their roles as regulars. Unless they are married with children and Joey is in the basement, lol:)

John Stamos' career doesn't need a bump, he actually has been acting quite regularly.....I am all for this, if anything for the curiosity factor but I will be shocked if it was for a network. Again I suspect ABC Family...at least they can try and coax other series regulars just for guest stints, even one of the olsens would probably do one episode or a scene each!
gidgetgrape 12-05-2008, 09:43 PM I would love a reunion movie! I can't imagine another series happening though.
ryan423 12-05-2008, 11:28 PM I'd love a tv movie. But never a series. Although, i'd def. tune in no matter how bad!
JulieSomoski 12-06-2008, 08:50 PM Well, with ER ending this season, John Stamos will need a job. I'm kind of surprised to see him getting this whole thing started, though, considering he wasn't to get off it in the first place.
I'd love to see ABC go for this - they aired it originally, and they're really in desperate need of a nice comedy block. I'm waiting for them to start a TGIF block again - Wifeswap and Supernanny just aren't cutting it on Fridays, and a nice sitcom block is greatly needed.
I think this could actually be good quiality-wise, though, if they do it right. All they have to do is stick to the original premise, and try not to make it "reunion," like, but more of a continuation of the series 15 years later. You know it would premiere huge with the curiosity factor.
TeeVeeCloset 12-06-2008, 08:55 PM Again I'm all for this idea, I own all the season sets.....BUT.....Reality owns network TV at 8PM, its cheap to produce....the family format sitcom has changed, you need to be sarcastic. The days of a TGIF block are over, cable has all the tween stuff.......we shall see...I did watch Candace in her new made for Hallmark channel Christmas movie and it was enjoyable. I understand Jodie S just filed for divorce.

You are right - television has changed. The only real family sitcom on television is According to Jim (I guess you can also count Old Christine and Gary Unmarried, but to a certain extent). ABC is in need of a good sitcom block, and if they could get this Full House remake/reunion to lead off a Friday block of comedies, it could work. You never know.
All I know is, I'm excited for this to happen.

Yes it would be nice....but its not that the networks would have a problem making family sitcoms, they don't want to...plus of course as I mentioned, people seem to want sarcasim in their comedy..networks don't want to spend $$$...its just too expensive, look at ABC on a Friday night....cheap, cheap and 20/20...cheap! ABC spends big bucks on the dramas right now....Lost, Life On Mars, etc. But since many have failed lately, Pushing Daisies, Eli Stone....and they haven't had much luck in launching a really big reality (except for Dancing) or game show, remember shatners game show? maybe they will have a change of heart and get back into pursuing sitcoms on more than one night.
Jude The Obscure 12-06-2008, 11:48 PM :clap  :brent
*In his best Elvis voice* Thank ya, Thank ya very much, sweet mama!
I would be intrigued at seeing the two oldest Tanner girls living life now with the net, cell phones, and juggling careers with families. Heck, throw in Kimmy Gibbler in the mix as the foil and voila, another riotous family comedy! Hmmmmmm......."Royal Flush"? or "Jacks or Better"?
Adamantium 12-07-2008, 12:09 AM I would watch this, no matter how bad it will be, lol. I find it interesting that it would be just Jesse, DJ and Stephanie. Where's Becky and the twins? It would be great if Bob Saget and Dave Coulier would make guest appearances, as I figure they will. Despite my hatred for the Michelle character, this wouldn't be complete without at least one appearance by a grown up Michelle.
Although I don't know if I believe this news to be real, I'm intrigued by the idea. And I'm even getting a little excited about it. :)
Next up... Family Matters. A married Urkel and Laura take in Carl (The Big Guy) after Harriett's untimely death.
catlover79 12-07-2008, 12:53 AM What would they call it - The New Full House?
Jude The Obscure 12-07-2008, 01:55 AM A Fuller House? DJ and Steph--Together Again? The Misadventures of the Tanner Brides?
Scoobiedoo30 12-07-2008, 02:00 AM What about Becky and The Twina
Jude The Obscure 12-07-2008, 02:10 AM Aaron, nothing is set in stone yet concerning what this possible sequel series will have as characters. The actress playing Becky, Lori Loughlin, is currently on the new 90210, and unless that gets canceled or the CW folds, I don't see Lori leaving that to revive Becky, at least not as a regular.

Her agent would be ticked at her if she did, lol.
Uncle Jesse could be a widower and DJ and Stephanie move in with him since he was there for them when their mom died. That would be a horrible plot, though, lol.

 Brilliant, Jude.
Scoobiedoo30 12-07-2008, 01:30 PM I hope Lori is in The New Full House.
ryan423 12-07-2008, 08:38 PM I hope Lori is in The New Full House.
Unless;
a) 90210 is cancelled
b) The Spinoff is on the CW
she won't be on!
Scoobiedoo30 12-07-2008, 08:50 PM I forgot about Lori doing 90210
DTF955 12-08-2008, 04:38 PM Sounds more like what they did eventually with "Family Affair." I suspect it'll be picked up by ABC Family and get cancelled just as fast, but they'll try to keep it fairly clean, just like FA.
However, there is one thought, and a weird one at that. What if they tried a drect to DVD TV series, like the direct to DVD movie business?
They could keep it the same wholesome comedy instead of all the sarcasm, they could get loyal followers and use the 'Net and word of mouth, and so on.
Okay, I said it was weird. Probably wouldn't work, but it would avoid the hassles of networks.
I think a "Family Affair" analogue, as far as how that was done, where it wound up (ABC Family) and how it did, is more likely, though, although perhaps as a continuation, as was noted.
catlover79 12-08-2008, 05:05 PM No offense, but I'm really surprised that John Stamos is (supposedly) interested in doing this. He's the one with the most show business success since the show ended, and somehow avoided being typecast. Why would he want to go back?

Who's to say he's going to be acting in it? Maybe he'll just produce/direct. Even if the rumor cites him as being Uncle Jesse, that doens't mean he'll actually play in it. And, the words "Stamos is plotting to reunite at least some of the cast" implies leadership more than acting.
The question is, does he have producing/directing experience? That, I don't know, since I don't keep up with that end of things.
It's also possible that he wants to get into production, and is using an attempt at a renewal as a stepping stone, and will turn the producing/directing reins over to someone else after a year or two.
