I already have tons of NFL games on CBS with the NFL today pregame show and post game show and halftime that I watch sometimes. I think the best NFL today era was from 1986-89 and then fizzled in 1990 when they got rid of Brent Musburger

I didn't know that-- I think it's really neat for you to be able to relive all those memories whenever you want to. I don't think that I taped any of the Musburger run or the games from that era. Today's "NFL on CBS" and "NFL Today" are okay, but not quite as up to snuff as the Musburger era that you and I remember.

Also, I agree that it was a shame that the NFL Network edited off the gamebreaks and halftime from that 1985 game. They did, however, show several other artifacts from that era, including an actual on-screen promo for the next week's doubleheader coverage, several score tickers at the bottom of the screen, and a promo for the halftime report with Brent Musburger, Irv Cross, and Dan Dierdorf. This game is not part of the recent Bears 1985 classic games DVD release from Warner Bros., but if it were, it would probably have been edited just like it was on the NFL Network.

Yeah that was the best time to be a NFL fan, I was always glued to the tube on the pregame show and the post game show. And even as a 10 year without cable, I used to listen to the Sunday Night Football games on Radio and on Halftime Brent would give his recap of the day in the NFL and I was all excited to hear his voice. I was like-"IT"S BRENT AGAIN!!!!

I never get it on my provider but whenever I would rent a house down the beach, most times the provider the TVs had in our house had the station. I like to watch old baseball games, but if it's football, I just tune in for the ESPN/ESPN2 NFL Films segments. Just curious, since we're talking about outside sports channels.

Yeah I haven't watched it in awhile but I know what you're talking about. The last 2/3 times I turned the channel on, they were showing episodes of Stump The Shwab, which was awesome. I loved that & enjoyed the old ESPN Classic...

The three presenters (Brent, Irv, and Jimmy) wore blazers with the CBS Sports vertical logo of the time on the breast pocket (the logo of the time being a CBS eye with "CBS" in the middle, and "Sports" underneath the eye). The actual studio design used at that time (at least, IMHO) was one of the best in the NFL's television history; it was a wooden studio with the "CBS The NFL Today" horizontal title in a curved area across the top of the highlight area (the highlight area being that place with a row of monitors on the right, and a bank of monitors on the left-- this is, at least, how I remember it); "CBS The NFL Today" sounds pretty weird, but that's what my first impression of the title was when I saw it for the first time. Don Robertson (CBS Sports V/O) always simply referred to it as "The NFL Today."

The actual opening (which was made by a graphics designer named Bill Feigenbaum) was a wireframe-type affair with a robotic (or semi-robotic) football player running through a simulated football field/studio (supposedly to illustrate that CBS had their "eye" on the NFL and football in general). Not only did Bill make this opening for "The NFL Today," he also made openings for the network's NBA coverage then and also for "CBS Sports Saturday/Sunday," among others.

I remember being so confused in 1990 when I no longer saw Brent on the NFL Today-lol At that time it was no internet and I wasn't much of a newspaper reader and was confused as to why it was no more Irv, and Brent. I already knew Jimmy was fired by CBS years before that
