Meaning that when your local team doesn't sell enough tickets for the game to be televised on your local Fox or CBS station. I found out that the people who live in detroit has not seen the lions play that much this year because the home games are always blacked out so during that time they can;t watch any football game.


I know in the 80's here in philly, when the Eagles were bad and was blacked out, we got to see another NFL game instead but they are saying when the Lions are blacked out they see No football at all. So just wondering has that been the case with anyone on here?

I know when the stadium seated 80,000, the franchise thought that was too big for a small market team that didn't sell out regularly. So they reduced it to 73,000. (like that would've helped) But they have been selling out in 07 and 08.

When I lived in Buffalo, blackouts never happened. Thankfully, that was the golden age of the Jim Kelly 'No-huddle' era.

Let's say that Carolina is at home against San Diego, If the game is blacked out locally, I can still receive it if the signal being sent to the west coast affiliates is unencrypted. If the signal is scrambled, My decoder will not work. NFL games are extremely difficult to find like this and when it does happen it's usually because of equipment malfunctions. Games from the NBA, NHL and MLB can often be found in the clear. All I have to do is scan the skies and look for them.
