Smartboy 11-07-2008, 06:39 PM I think that it is interesting that on the same day that I post a message called "More About Larry" someone else starts a thread that indirectly deals with the same Larry! For seasons two and three, this poster picked an episode that featured Larry Rhine's wife! Maybe, this person like me has some special appreciation for Hazel Shermet! Who knows?
In addition to this, there are a couple more episodes up here that I would have picked if I were posting. In the first place, I liked the first season episode known as "Dope". There are a lot of things that I liked about it and one of them is the fact that Helen Hunt was in it. I am crazy about her! I also thought that "Crusin" was pretty cool!
I would now like to write about another episode that I liked and that is not up there. If I had to pick a favorite for the final season, I would go with "Big Apple Blues". I thought that Mindy Cohn as Natelie did a great job of acting disgusted when she realized that her purse had been stolen! It came off as being so natural!

Smartboy 11-10-2008, 02:28 AM I have observed several things about the responses to this thread that I find to be quite interesting! In the first place, "Shoplifting" and "Green Eyed Monster" seem to be very popular episodes. Like I mentioned in my first response I liked both of these because I am a big fan of Hazel Shermet and these are the only two episodes of this show that she appeared in. Another one that has gotten several votes is "Dope". Helen Hunt is another one of my favorite performers and I thought that she did a great job in this episode! "Crusin" is another one that I would have voted for. I really enjoyed the enthusism that the girls had when it came to offering support for each other and singing along with the radio! However, one that nobody seems too interested in is "Big Apple Blues". Being that Natelie was my favorite character, I like episodes that centered around her. It is my understanding that this was one of several attempts at a spin-off. It is ashamed that neither this nor any of the others worked out!

Bleh, I'm just not a real huge fan of pretty much the whole 9th season...but Nat is totally my favorite character, too. I think she's the most hilarious and real :) I love, love LOVE Lisa Whelchel, and Blair definitely had some great scenes/lines etc.I love Nancy McKeon but for whatever reason, I was never really incredibly fond of Jo. And I hated Tootie after season 3.

yeah, isnt lisa whelchel amazing!?! :D
Smartboy 11-11-2008, 11:12 AM I would be very interested in knowing what exactly the last poster disliked about the character of Tootie after the thrid season! I thought that she was okay throughout the whole sereis.
Nanc and Lisa! 11-11-2008, 05:07 PM and Nancy is AMAZING as well!

well, "hate" might be a bit of an exaggeration ;) but I seriously did dislike Tootie. Around season 4 she started this scream-y kind of whine that absolutely drove me insane. I honestly don't know how anyone could stand to be around her. She was occasionally funny, though.

onederboi779 11-08-2012, 05:00 PM my favorite 6 from each season would be
season 1
1-rough housing
2-like mother like daughter
3-flash flood
4-adoption
5-running
6-dope
season 2
1-the new girl parts 1&2 (great introduction for jo)
2-shoplifting(great to see jo admit that she feels she is getting close to mrs.garrett)
3-teenage marriage parts 1&2(great to see how much jo really does mean to mrs garrett and the girls especially blair who really showed how much she cared for jo to try and stop her from making a huge mistake by getting married)
4-the secret(a powerful episode to show how difficult jo's life really has been growing up and the fact that mrs.garrett got jo's dad to not just give up on jo and try harder to work things out with her)
5-bought and sold(good to see blair learn about friendship and not be greedy by giving natalie a full refund of her money and to see that she shows she really is natalie's friend and is sorry for what she did)
6-cousin geri(it was a great introduction to geri it was also great to see that blair wasn't embarrassed by geri because she had cerebral palsy that it was jealousy plus the way she fit in with the girls so well.one thing i liked about geri jewells character is in the episodes she was in it didn't just focus on her disability but showed how people with disabilities are regular people to and have normal lives just like everyone else.she should have been made a regular if u ask me because her character was great)
season 3
1-growing pains
2-the four musketeers(as much as the girls got on each others nerves it was great to see how much they really mean to each other)
3-the affair(mindy cohn was brilliant in this episode)
4-runaway
5-the academy
6-new york new york(it was great to see how much blair and jo realized that there lives have changed alot since being at eastland)
season 4
1-ain't miss beholden(great to see how much blair really cares about jo and that she made sure jo got the scholarship not because blair wanted something to hold against her but because she was her friend and didn't want jo to leave eastland)

4-let's party(very important episode about the dangers of drinking and driving)
5-help from home(great to see jo's mom and dad working together to try and figure out a way to send jo to college and that they will both make sure that thay are able to)
6-graduation parts 1&2(great episode for many reasons one to see how much the girls all mean to each other and want to make sure they stay good friends even after blair and jo leave eastland,it was great to see jo's dad taking responsibility for mistakes he made in the past and admitting how it took alot for jo's mom to send her to eastland and admitting she didnt get any help from him and him trying to make jo's graduation a special event for her mom to)
season5
1-brave new world parts 1&2(great to see that they came up with a way to keep the girls together and to see how much mrs.garrett really loves them)
2-small dangerous(great to see how jo really will protect and stick up for her friends and is even willing to be somewhat of a mentor to kelly even after everything she has done)
3-the christmas show(it was great to see everyone learn the true meaning of christmas although i wish that jo would have taken that ticket to florida from blair you can clearly see that all blair was trying to do was to try and make jo happy for christmas and get to spend it with her mom.i was kind of upset with jo in this episode but it was great to see blair decide to return and spend christmas with jo and mrs.garrett
4-a death in the family(avery powerful and realistic episode that dealt with a very serious issue like death epsecially when its a parent this was another episode that mindy cohn was brilliant in)
5-seems like old times(it was great to see eddie return and how much jo had grown since she last saw him she really showed true emotion in this episode)
6-the way we were(great to see everyone to get blair and jo admit that their fight was really stupid and that they were really friends and meant alot to each other)
season 6
1-dear apple(great once again to see how much her friendship with blair really means alot to jo)
2-with a little help from my friends(very good episode about the use of drugs)
3-gone with the wind parts 1&2(great to see blair really falling for a guy who doesn't have money and has no interest in the guy who has money who's trying to pick her up)
4-sisters(great to see jo and blair really tring to be good friends and deal with the fact that their parents may get married and good to see them both apologize to each other for the things they said about each other and their parents)
5 -working it out(lisa whelchel was brilliant in this episode it was great to see that blair really wasn't always so self centered by the guilt she has because she hurt cliff so much by turning down his marriage proposal and breaking up with him and how mad she is at herself and nobody else for it)
6-bus stop(great to see natalie graduate and realize that she needs to take time off from school and not go directly to college because she needs to experience the real world first i'm glad that the writers had her stick to what she wanted to do and not just break down and give in and go to college right away)
season 7
1-out of the fire, into the frying pan, grand opening parts 1,2,&3
2-teacher teacher(it was great to see jo trying to become a teacher and how important it was for her to work with the kids and be a good teacher than it was to take a high paying easier job)
4-born to late(great storyline with tootie and andy with them dealing with the fact that andy has a crush on her and tootie really trying to make sure she doesn't hurt andy kim fields and mackenzie astin were brilliant in this episode plus the bird when it kept saying i love you edna and driving mrs.garrett crazy was hilarious)
5- christmas baby(great to see everyone delaying the plans to be with blair when her mom gives birth to the baby it showed what great friends everyone was)
6-the graduate/theapartment parts 1&2
7-tootie drives(i know it was only supposed to be six but there is one extra this season this episode was hilarious with tootie trying to get her license and natalie getting a hersch from her work for tootie to take her drivers license this episode just made me laugh so much)
season 8
1-out of peekskill parts 1&2(i wish it could have been a 3 parter just to give more time for mrs. garrett's departure and beverlyann's introduction it felt a little rushed but still a great episode with mrs.garret getting married and moving away and telling each of the girls how much she loved them and what they have taught her the scene with mrs.garrett saying her farewells with each of the girls was great)
2-the little chill(it was great to see the girls from season 1 again i just wish mrs. garret could have been there but there was also a great scene between beverlyann and jo with them both feeling like outsiders and jo assuring beverlyann that they were friends and that the girls were glad that she was there)
3-a boy about the house(it was great to see how much beverlyann loved andy and didnot want him going back to the orphanage or from foster home to foster home and she wanted to give him a permanent home and stability both cloris leachman and mackenzie astin were brilliant in this episode plus it was great to see the girls show so much support for beverlyann adopting andy especially when the social worker came)
4-ex marks the spot(great to see that beverlyann was finally ready to move on and realize her life was now in peekskill and not in appleton anymore)
5-this is only a test(it was great to see that blair realized that money can't buy everything and the way jo helped her to realize that and that show stayed up all night helping blair study because she really wanted to help blair get into law school their friendship really showed in this episode and both nancy mckeon and lisa whelchel were brilliant)
6-rites of passage parts 1&2(it was great to see blair and jo graduate from college and that jo was strong enough not to give a speech that she did not believe in and that no matter what she stood by her principles and said if she could not give the speech she wanted to she would not do it at all.plus blair showed how good of a friend she was to jo when she was chosen to give the speech instead when she decided to read jo's speech for her and made sure everyone know that it was jo's speech and not hers.it was great to see that she respected jo that much and that she was a great friend and later on in part 2 when jo is offered a job in california it showed how much blair natalie and tootie really meant to her and that they were her best friends that she was willing to turn down the job for them the scene at the end with jo leaving was so realistic and emotional it was brilliant)
season 9
1-sweet charity(i loved how it showed how much jo wanted to help people and save the shelter so much she was willing to beg blair for help)
2-less than perfect(lisa whelchel was brilliant in this episode she really showed true emotion.the scene with her at the hospital seeing the scar on her forehead and her reaction was totally realistic.it was also great to see that jo really was a great friend to blair and really wanted to help her by telling casey what was really going on with blair to make sure blair didn't make the mistake of pushing him away because they were both really in love with each other.it was great to see jo really trying to comfort and help blair in this episode)
3-till marriage do us part(it was great to see jo getting married it felt rushed all in one episode and it should have been a two parter but still agood episode)
4-present imperfect(it was great to see how tootie dealt with jeff's grandmother in a mature and respectful way after jeff's grandmother was mean to her it really showed how much tootie had grown in this episode)
5-big apple blues(a good and funny episode it was great that natalie was making a change in her life and was doing what was right for her plus the scenes with her and david spade were brilliant first when she was trying to help and comfort him when he lost his first patient and him trying to help her when her purse was stolen and helped her realize that what happened could happen anywhere and gets her to see that she really does want to move to new york city and stay there.i know this was a spinoff atempt for mindy cohn if it was picked up i would have liked to have her and david spade's character become a couple they had good chemistry)
6-the beginning of the end/the beginning of the beginning parts 1&2(i didn't like this as the final episode but i liked the episode itself i wish the other characters were included more than they were then it would have made a better series finale but this was really a good episode it really showed how much blair had grown and matured i was a little surprised that her father who really hasn't been there alot for her wasn't even willing to help her at all i know the storyline probably couldn't have happened if he did but still i liked how she was willing to give up her trust fund and lose all her money to save the eastland school rather than open up her own law firm and continue to have money.it really showed her maturity and what was more important to her which was saving the school.plus when she realized the school needed more than money it also needed a headmaster and a dorm monitor she stepped up and did it herself.it really shows how responsible blair had gotten and how she was really trying to not only save the school financially but to help it remain a great school that she was a part of and had been so proud of.the scenes with her trying to help the girl terry who was trying to get herself expelled because her parents were divorcing the talk she has with terry and gets her to realize that she needed to make herself happy even if her parents were divorcing was great.you could clearly see that blair was sharing her own experience with divorced parents with terry and she really wanted to help terry because she truly cared about her.if this spinoff attempt was picked up it would have made a better show if it included blair and jo with blair running the school and jo becoming a teacher or guidance counselor)
i miss the good old days of the 70's 80's and early 90's when shows dealt with realistic issues and witers knew how to write good stories.the junk they have on telivision today is ridiculous and is nothing like the great shows like the facts of life and other great shows of the 70's 80's and early 90's.
