The date was October 25, 1978 and a movie opened in a small town with no expectations and quickly spread like wildfire and still remains the point where "modern horror" begins and no matter how many useless sequels and remakes by Rob Zombie come along, nothing will ever top the original.

Granted, I wasn't even born yet in 1978, but still kinda scary that the movie is now thirty years old. First time I saw it was Halloween 1988 on a local station and fell in love with it.

The original Halloween is truly a classic in the horror genre. Made with virtually no money, it continues to terrify viewers today, thirty years later. One of those films I can watch over and over, and it still scares the heck out of me!

haha, are you being serious or sarcastic? Well, there are people who've never seen it, but at the same time, it's been such a pop culture icon over the past thirty years that I'd be surprised there are people who wouldn't know what it's about.

I always thought this was a terrible trailer in the sense that it gives way too much of the movie away. I am aware in 2008 that we all know who dies and whatever, but for people seeing it for the first time in 1978, this gave away too much of the last 30 minutes that I'm surprised a lot of people still went and saw it. I can understand it showing the opening slaying of Judith Myers, but being very vague with Laurie and friends to where everything would be a surprise.

oh ok, I was checking.

In as short as possible.
Michael Myers savagely murders his big sister at the age of six on Halloween night 1963. 15 years later on the eve of Halloween, he breaks out of the sanitarium he's in and steals the car that Dr. Loomis (Donald Pleasance) was in. Jamie Lee Curtis (in her first movie) plays a high school girl who is a bit of a loner that works as a babysitter on Halloween night, but little does she know that she is Michael's little sister (she had been put up for adoption and became Laurie Strode) and that he has come to finish what he started with his older sister. Then on Halloween night, Michael starts picking her friends off one by one to get closer to her. About all I'd say without truly spoiling a thirty year old movie.

Halloween II, which came out in 1981, picks up exactly where the first leaves off and takes place the same night.

speaking of Halloween, what's the consensus here on Halloween II? I don't care much for the sequels, but I do think the second one is the one sequel that "matters" IMO, even tho it is inferior to the original. But it does have some great moments, although Jamie Lee seems to be missing for about half the movie while in the hospital

It's almost not a sequel to me since it picked up right where the first one left off and takes place on the same night. A theater here aired them together one year on Halloween and didn't stop in between, so it was like one movie. I think that's what John Carpenter intended to happen, he wanted to finish what he started in part II and that be the end of it, Michael was supposed to have burned to death at the end of part II.

oh wow, that would've been so much fun seeing them back to back in the theater. Did they just start Halloween II right where the last scene in the first started to make it one long movie?

Yeah they did, it was great! There was like a 5 minute intermission while they switched movies, but they didn't roll the end credits on the first movie or the beginning credits on the second one.

As much as I love Halloween, I think Halloween II is better than the first one.
There are more scares, more suspense; and of course the revelation of the reason behind Michael's targeting of Laurie Strode is a great plot twist. The only drawback is that Jamie Lee Curtis spends most of the movie in a hospital bed.

Also, I give props to stuntman Dick Warlock who played "The Shape" in part II. Of all the people who donned the mask in the various Halloween films, he gave the best performance.

Halloween is one of my favorites. I hated the Rob Zombie sequel. It would be cool to see it in a theater. There are a lot of small theaters that played old movies.

although I do prefer pt. 1, mainly because I like the build-up and atmosphere better, I agree... Nick Castle doesn't compete with Dick Warlock as MM. There is something about Dick's mask that was more sinister and creepy than any other mask. Pt. II is the only time I can honestly say I was scared by him.

Did you know his son was Billy Warlock (who has a brief cameo as a teen looking for his friend that was engulfed in the fire), best known from his soap work, Baywatch and Flip from Happy Days?

Halloween is my favorite scary movie of all time. I have so many good memories watching it on t.v. around Halloween time and, even though there is very little gore, it still has the power to freak me out! It just goes to show you that horror movies can make more of an impact using subtle creepiness! :)

Big time Halloween fan here; two of my prized autographs are Tony Moran "the face of Michael Myers in the original) and Danielle Harris.

What is happening with the franchise now? I could be wrong but I believe the original series is over; ending with HALLOWEEN: Resurrection.

Are they making a prequel or sequel to Rob Zombie's remake or anything else? What's happening as of now?

My sister just met the guy who played Bob at a annual thing she's been going to called Screamfest. I'd like to meet PJ Soles just to ask her how she was able to dial the phone(right after Bob gets killed), without even looking at the buttons!!:D That's a little joke between my sister & me. Everytime we see that scene, we crack on it!!
