The mother of Oscar winning actress Jennifer Hudson has been killed.

Investigators said two shooting victims were discovered inside a home belonging to Hudson's mother just before 3:00 PM on Friday.

The home is located at 7019 South Yale in Chicago's Englewood neighborhood.

One of the victims was 57-year-old Darnell Hudson.

The other victim was identified as Jennifer's brother, Jason. A cousin who lived nearby discovered the bodies.

The shooting is believed to be domestic, police said.

Hudson is said to be flying to Chicago from Tampa.

How sad. She must be going crazy. The police think it's domestic. If the little boy is missing, perhaps it was over a custody dispute. I pray that child is safe. Just terrible.

Wow, can't believe that happened to her family. I was hoping this would be some kind of weird joke thread. Hopefully her nephew will be OK and that Jennifer will be able to accept this at some point in the future - don't know if I ever could though if it were me. :(

yes - that's the main reason she was so happy lately. Just horrible. I pray for the little boy's safe return.


It used to be stuff like this only seemed to happen in the movies or on soap operas, but more and more they're getting commonplace. Domestic murders are now well the number one murder in North America.

That's awful! She must be hurting badly. And what a terrible time for this to happen (although any time would be terrible to lose a loved one), but especially right now, after she had just gotten engaged. I'm glad she has her fiance to lean on, but this will take a long time for her to get through.

In what may be the horrible conclusion to an epically tragic weekend for Jennifer Hudson's family, Chicago authorities have recovered the body of a 7-year-old boy, fitting the description of the entertainer's missing nephew.

However, there has been no confirmation that the remains, found in an SUV abandoned on a Chicago street, are those of Julian King.

Julian vanished following the slayings of Hudson's mother and brother, who were shot dead in their home Friday. Police issued an Amber Alert and FBI kidnapping experts were called in to help search for a white 1994 Chevy Suburban—the same vehicle where the body was discovered.

Over the weekend, Hudson and her sister, Julia, the boy's mother, both made emotional pleas for Julian's safe return. The Oscar-winning Dreamgirls star also offered a $100,000 reward and asked fans "to pray for our family."

The boy's stepfather, William Balfour, was detained by police but has not formally been charged. He is currently in the custody of state officials.

Today on local radio station WLS 890 AM it was stated that the SUV belongs to the family so chances are that the body found it that of the missing boy.

Yeah, the news doesn't look good does it. What's even worse is that the poor kid was terrorized more than his uncle and grandmother would have been.

Man I hope they find the creep - or better yet, he saves the justice system money and kills himself.

I don't think this story could get anymore tragic. How horrible.

Boy is it ever. Just reading that article in People again this morning about her engagement and how well things were going for her.

Apparently he even asked her mother for permission to marry Jennifer. And Jennifer said she wanted a HUGE wedding. I'm sure it's going to be much more toned down now. :(


UPDATE - 4:47 pm MONDAY - they just positively identified the boy's body in the back of the SUV - it IS her nephew.

Remember, at this point he's only a suspect, and they haven't charged him with anything.

That said, he does look strange (not that that matters) and they were probably waiting to confirm Julian's safety or sadly, death before they started to lay charges.

Yeah, I know. I mean, to have 1 member of your family murdered, horrible, but to have 3 of your family murdered, unfathomable. My heart goes out to Jennifer & her family during this unbelievable tragedy.

I have been hearing about this for day since I live in Chicago and my God, what a tragedy! That poor family to lose a mother, a brother and a nephew all at the same time. How terrible. My heart and prayers go out to them.:(

This is incredibly tragic and I cannot even imagine the pain she's going through right now. That guy should be locked up for life or even given the death penalty for this. I am "against" suicide, but right now that seems like his best option. That poor little boy and Jennifer's brother and mother.

Julian was his stepson actually. Although he was married at one point to Jennifer's sister, he wasn't the boy's biological father.

He's just some murderous creep with a very bad hairdo (which I hope doesn't go over well in jail if he is charged with these murders). :mad:
