I would like to here everyones most shocking "visible" moments on UM
1 Talmans Ghost --- man sits straight up in bed and screams to the top of his lungs
2 Ethel Kidd -- when they find her body tied to a tree

I know there are more .....

The necrophilia and snuff video allegations made in the Ellender case.

The woman and her son terrorized and the woman raped on a Memorial Day outing and the recreations of same showing the son watching his mother getting raped.

Good lord! Does anyone know the name of this case? I could have sworn I saw some case like this on UM.

I always found the Gary Grant Jr case to be somewhat shocking.

What about the case of a missing wife where we learn eight years later that the prime suspect, her husband, killed his girlfriend and wounded her lover and then took his own life. Can't remember names but that was as shocking as they come.

I always found that the link between the Veronica Jefferson and Rachel Raver/Warren Fulton murders to be shocking, since it was made through UM and because the police assumed that Jefferson was murdered by someone she knew.

The Keith Warren case was also shocking...both how his body was found and that the photos were delivered to his mother's front door. Scary stuff.

I don't know. There was no update on my taped copy but it is several years old.

Their detective agency is still in business. I was thinking of emailing them and asking but I wasn't sure if that would be the best idea.

This case seemed solvable. Some people at the docks seemed like they might know the identity of the two men but were reluctant to talk to investigators.

I feel bad for the kid. I'm sure he needed some serious therapy after this.

Okay ---

The guy sitting up and screaming in his bed in the Tallman's Ghost segment gave me nightmares for weeks when I was a kid. That will always stick with me as the number one most shocking moment.

Also, I was always (as I'm sure most people were) freaked out by the criminals pictures, or an artist rendition of said criminal. Ugh. Those would cause me to turn away after a few seconds. The most memorable of those are the creepy blonde hair guy in the segment where the older couple were staying the night at a rest stop in (I believe) what was called The Blind River Murders.

The most shocking moment for me though (outside of a ghost story) has to be the moment in a segment where a creepy old dude was going door-to-door convincing girls that he needed to inspect their milk cartons to make sure they were up to code. The actor they got to play this guy was creepy as hell, with his rose tinted glasses and sex offender creepiness...it was the first thing you saw when the UM graphic would start the show, and they would introduce the segments for the nights broadcast. I just always remember the show starting with that horrible image of the girl opening the door and that creepy dude peering in...and then during the segment when they cut to outside of the house, and all you hear is the little girl screaming...ugh...still gives me the creeps.

I actually thought that was quite funny but anyways, when I read the title I thought of "Debbie". I think that was the name they gave her, the one who was abducted, taken into the woods and shot in the face. Maybe Edward Bell was another which was hard to watch the first time.

I agree on the composites ... That was , for the most part the scariest thing for me growing up . I can remember my older sister calling me in the room , right when the composite drawing would come up , and freak me out . The case with the guy going around to the Girls houses , I believe was , he was pretending to be a police officer , and he had the ugly glasses and a beard and a mustache , and I also think he used the name " Tom Coles" , I remember this case well , because , the one where they showed him at the door he was supposed to have been in Jackson MS ( where I was born ) and then they show him driving off in a car with Alabama plates, and he comes to Mobile AL ( where I live now) and that was very weird .

Oh Lord, the "Debbie" re-enactment, with that awful voice: "You ain't goin' nowhere!" That one's terrible.

The most shocking UM moment in my opinion was the showing of the steamer trunk victim photo. God, did that traumatize me for months on end. Albeit viewers were warned it was graphic, I wasn't expecting anything like that at all. That was the single worst thing I've ever seen on television, hands down. I'll never watch that segment again, seriously.

The entire Dennis Depue segment was really disturbing, I thought. The part that really scared me was when that couple found the bloody sheet, and then when they showed the update with Depue's van all shot full of holes. He was a scary-looking guy anyway.

A lot of the composite sketches used to freak me out ... not so much anymore. I guess I've grown out of that. Some of the sketches that scared me were the Blind River Rest Stop killer, the I-70 killer and the guy who was following women around in Virginia trying to get them to pull over, telling them something was wrong with their car. He killed at least one woman, I think her name was Alicia Showalter.

Definitely the young man named Larry who was shot to death trying to detain a pervert. Not only was he shot in front of his mother and his sister arrived just in time to see him die, but the same pervert got into a lady's house in Texas. The scene where he showed up behind her, reflected in her mirror, was shocking, but even more shocking is when she chased him out with a gun and CONTINUED FIRING AS THE GUN IS AIMED AT THE HOUSE ACROSS THE STREET! I'm sure the neighbors really appreciated that.

(Like my least favorite scene in It's A Wonderful Life. Sorry, but not even in an alternate reality sequence in Pottersville should a police officer fire at an unarmed man running down a busy street, with doors opening all up and down and cars driving in the line of fire.)

(BTW, this criminal was apprehended as a direct result of UM.)

the black hope curse on the ghosts dvd. watching them dig up the bones & reinterring them for what they'd hoped would be a proper burial, which ends up angering the spirits even more & triggers a nightmare of a haunting.

Is that the sketch published in the papers sliding slowly sideways immediately after the crime, or the second composite made by computer with the help of Gordon McAllister, looking sideways?

The former is ugly and scary as hell, I agree, but it's a rather tiny sketch, while I find the latter not scary at all. In fact, having a composite sketch look sideways decreases the shock factor a lot.

What freaked me out was a scene from the Rhonda Hinson segment. It was the part where a guy was put under hypnosis and UM re-created what he saw. He was driving on the highway on the night Rhonda was killed and he actually saw Rhonda slumped over in her car! He also saw a strange man next to her car. Really creepy.

Both of them are scary to me, but I was referring to the latter. Even with the sideways look. His face scares me. And I think that piano music they played just as they showed the composite had a lot to do with molding my fear.

I agree with the Blind River case. Scarily unprovoked.

As long as we're talking entire segments rather than "moments", I would nominate the one about the young woman who called her boyfriend after work from the deserted square in their town. At that moment, according to the boyfriend's account, a creep abducted her and drove away in his pickup truck with her held captive. The boyfriend, having heard the kidnapping over the phone, raced the few blocks from his house. The abductor's pickup passed him going the other way with the young woman flailing in the passenger seat. The boyfriend jammed his car into reverse, not realizing he was damaging his transmission in the process. His transmission died shortly thereafter, and he watched the pickup truck with his girlfriend in it disappear into the distance. She was never seen or heard from again. Scary. Anyone know if there were ever any developments in this case? I would have taken a very close look at the boyfriend.

Another one I found scary was the murder of the three ATVers near Chattanooga. That one was solved sometime in the late '90s.

An especially eerie (as opposed to scary) case was the one concerning the murdered Hassidic Jewish boy in NYC. The sinister hushed atmosphere of the boarding school was particularly well-captured, I thought.

Angela Hammond. That's a big one around here. Rob Schaffer, Angela's boyfriend, was cleared within a week. There have been no major developments since her kidnapping, although her case is still open.

I liked it too. It sounded kind of like something a Klezmer band would play, which of course is definitely Jewish.

Maybe this is kind of lame, but one particular UM scene that still makes me cover my mouth and cringe is when the man (he was later identified but his name escapes me) falls from the plane he literally ran after and grabbed onto as it was taking off from the Paducah, KY airport. For a less sarcastic response the necrophiblia allegations were in the Eric & Pam Ellender case. They lived in Louisiana and were found murdered in their bed and their infant daughter was nearby unharmed. Police think a satanic cult was responsible and the person initially taken into custody killed himself in prison soon after. I believe a few others were convicted for participating.

The other case is the man whose body was found in a steamer trunk. They showed a very gruesome and graphic picture of his face post-mortem in an effort to find out who he was. He was identified and his care taker was convicted of his murder.

Izzit on any of CrystalDawn's cds? I don't remember that segment.

I wholeheartedly agree with the poster who brought up Ethel Kidd's brutal and disgusting murder. I kinda wince and look away from the screen at that part.

The dead old man is another one.

I also agree about the Chaim Weiss segment although thats not really shocking to mee, as it is just good old fashioned creepy

I was shocked, SHOCKED, I tell you, during the segment in which the ghost supposedly haunts the body of a young woman who attacks her husband. I was SHOCKED that this guy could get a wife!

That case gives me the creeps too. Needless to say, I can't watch that one too often. The whole crime scene sends me reeling...the abondoned truck in the woods, or should I say TREES! Then the little girl's mother is found dead with a sock wrapped around her neck. I think there were other creepy parts at the crime scene but can't remember them. I wonder how that little girl is doing now and if the police are still searching for that Reimer guy.

When I first saw the Terri McClure reenactment, the image of her sitting in the car, bloodied head and all, really stuck with me. It kind of freaked me out. Then when I watched the segment on Lifetime, it didn't seem so bad. But when I saw the original segment, I never wanted to see it again!

I was shocked by the Christophe Day update. Bill Day finally finds his ex-wife, just to discover his son had died. Infuriating, to say the least.

I had forgotten about that door to door guy - now I totally remember him! So skeevy....ick! And the idea of the nudist camp in the one episode was a little shocking to me when I was younger. No clothes? What?

The episode that shocked me the most was the Monica Rizzo one. When they announced they'd found the bones of I think, 5 other people in his (the husbands) yard, and none of them were Monica's I was truly shocked! And I bet her husband was too, because he knew he'd only killed his wife. He was probably thinking, "were did all these other people come from??? (later it was found that all the bones were from Monica and weren't from anyone else) and they STILL didn't indict the guy!

Yeah, I think they gave some lame story that they couldn't prove that it was Monica's husband who scattered her bones in their back yard.

Their position was that it could have been any nut who abducted her, deboned her and put chunks of her flesh in plastic bags, put the rest of her through a wood chipper, and then deposit all those human remains in the Rizzo backyard without Mr. Rizzo knowing who did it (or ever smelling the rotting flesh or even noticing the human hand bones in his own bbq pit.)

UM is full of so many shocking moments, some that still get to me even though I've seen most of the episodes numerous times. I still get freaked out by the guy that pops out of nowhere in the episode where the police go to arrest a woman in a pool room and the man (Lyle Moody, I believe) just comes out with a gun and the music alters.

Actually, I think that hair do is pretty predictable for someone as klassy as Michael Jord- er, I mean Sammy Wheeler.

To this day, whenever in a room with a large mirror, particularly a bedroom or bathroom, I look over my shoulder for a psycho to be reflected behind me.

The first one that comes to mind was the one about the Devil's Backbone. How it starts, and then suddenly there's a "ghost" outside the window and a loud scream. UGH. The first time I saw that, I jumped about 12 feet into the air. Afterwards...meh....kind of a chuckle. But that first time. WOW.

Oh, and the one with the La Posada hotel. I saw it when it first aired (when I was eight) and was terrified of going into the bathroom for weeks afterward because of the ghost in the mirror. :)

Ha! The General Wayne Inn segment had that head on a table, always freaked me out!

Michaela G. (little girl, forgot the name, sorry) I was shocked at how she just got beside the car, then all of sudden she was thrown in the backseat and driven off.

~In the woods, two men approach a young boy~

Man: (very sweetly) Hi, are you Richard?
Boy: Yeah.
Man: Get him!!!

And then they just grab him. It was obvious their presence was ominous, but still surprising.

Jesslyn Rich going to the restroom while out with friends and getting kidnapped and murdered. There must have been another door, obviously, but I feel so sorry for her and her friends. How would you feel if you watched your good friend get up to go to the restroom in a restaurant and never come back? It's a common occurrence that someone in your party will leave momentarily and all the more scary to think about it turning tragic.

Was this the disappearance of the Prison Warden linked to the corrupt Women's Prison?

Yes! It's just so startling to me that they apparently got her when she was out in a restaurant with her friends- a time when we all would probably feel pretty safe.

I think one of the most surprising moments (in a good way), was the segment where the bank robbers kidnapped a bank teller, shot at officers, and actually released their hostage unharmed. I knew she would be fine because she was interviewed, but it is pretty incredible that they did her no harm, especially after they fired at officers and she probably saw the face of the one who removed his mask.

The whole John Grundhofer kidnapping case was shocking to me. The way the kidnapper was out of shape, unprepared, and no clear motive for why he would have kidnapped Grundhofer was weird. Then the maintenance man who was identified as the kidnapper (who looked just like the composite) who turns out had no connection to the case whatsoever. Very weird coincidence that he looked exactly like the kidnapper.

For one that I haven't seen posted in this thread yet, the first time I watched the Charles Holden segment when he drives the opposite way of his mother's house and kicks the high guy out of his truck and then with Stack narrating something to the effect of "as Charles turned around and made his way back to his mother's house, he could see (guy's name, I forget what it is) walking towards his mother's front door". Right at that moment, I remember being like, "what?! oh sh**".

There's the case with the guy pretending to be deaf who takes a woman and her kid and mother on some sort of wild goose chase. I was pretty sure he was faking being deaf and magically getting his hearing back, so that's not what was shocking. But I remember it scaring the crap out of me when he took off with the woman and the two of them are on their own...and then one night they're outside and he just starts beating her up! It's been years since I've seen that segment, but I remember the sound effects and how her face was absolutely covered in bruises. Some of those later segments had pretty violent reenactments, particularly this one and the one where the woman gets attacked by two men while boating and the son watches the whole thing. You know that the men are going to be the attackers after they start catcalling, but I didn't expect them to show up out of nowhere and hit the woman in the face with an oar!!

Not a shocking UM moment, but a shocking aftermath moment. I never realized that David Thompson was released from prison and never convicted of murdering his ex-father-in-law despite his confession! He's a free man.

What does "no billed" mean?

From what I can figure out from the link below, it means the grand jury doesn't think there's enough evidence to support the charges in the indictment so the case doesn't to go trial.

http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/No+bill

Some of the text:

No Bill

A term that the foreman of the Grand Jury writes across the face of a bill of indictment (a document drawn up by a prosecutor that states formal criminal charges against a designated individual) to indicate that the criminal charges alleged therein against a suspect have not been sufficiently supported by the evidence presented before it to warrant his or her criminal prosecution.

they never found the Blind River killer but they did find some of his evidence at the rest stop toilet where he forgot to flush his tird. It had crucial DNA evidence on and within it! (Detectives said he may have not forgotten to flush it and left it there on purpose to toy with detectives!)!
