View Full Version : That was the night that the lights went out in GA...
chacha6581 10-16-2008, 12:23 PM The episode where Julia defends Suzanne from those women's rude comments, oh I love that scene! Where she describes the baton twirling, and ends it with " That was the night the lights went out in Georgia!" That was so fierce to me!!
friendsfan77 10-16-2008, 03:05 PM I always loved when Julia would get fired up, it would be so fun to watch, and this particular instance was no exception

cajunhillbilly 01-19-2009, 08:31 AM remind me to never ever make Julia mad.
mstewart 01-19-2009, 11:44 AM In the episode "Killing All the Right People" Julia let that self-righteous prud have it. That was classic.

Julia was one tough cookie & I loved the way she put those women in their place.
Natalie1969 06-27-2011, 04:17 PM Me too!! Seems like Dixie Carter plays tough Southern women-loved her as Maggie (another tough no nonsense Southern woman) on Diffrent Strokes.

These 2 instances are probably Julia's 2 greatest FIRED-UP moments!

Another of my favorite "fired up" moments is when she tells off that man running for office in the episode "The Candidate". That was a great episode. All of her speeches were extremely well written and Dixie did a wonderful job of brining the script to life. Dixie is sadly missed by me.
80sTrivia 11-29-2014, 06:06 AM Definitely an unforgettable scene, from one of the best episodes of the series. Always loved it when Julia launched into a diatribe against someone who has it coming! The late Dixie Carter is certainly missed...
Bronson 08-24-2016, 11:26 AM Yes Julia was an amazing person and wonderful sister.
tlc38tlc38 09-06-2016, 07:16 PM I've found that if your feeling down, pop in that episode of DW and it will lift your spirits. That speech does wonders for your soul.
On a side note: I'm not sure actually why The Golden Girls is more liked than DW because the writing for DW was spotless versus TGG. I do like TGG but DW is a lot better, IMO.
tlc38tlc38 05-12-2017, 09:44 PM Feeling sad tonight so I'm currently watching "The Beauty Contest" with that most famous Julia speech.
This episode hold such a special place with me.

Kasey 07-01-2019, 10:56 AM I bet the cast and writers never imagined how iconic that rant would become.
