ok.. so i decided to write a sequel to my sequel's sequel.. i think i said that right. anyway, here's a little.. tell me what u think. again, viewer discretion advised.. haha.. lol.. whatever... bleh:

The door to Kate's house opened and in walked both Kate and Jinny. It had been over a month since they both landed in the hospital and they were finally ready to leave today. Kate held the door open for Jinny and she watched as the inspector walked into the house with her duffel bag in tow. Smiling, she shut the door behind her and sighed. "It's good to be home" she said and dropped her own bag on the floor.

Jinny turned around and smiled at Kate. They had been in the same hospital room since the start of their stay and still they were speaking... it was a true miracle. "Yeah... and since this is now where I call home..." she laughed. She had been at Kate's house so much her apartment was growing cobwebs. She too dropped her bag and walked over to Kate. Throwing her arms around her she gave her a quick kiss on the lips. "Home sweet home" she said and grinned.

Kate laughed and hugged Jinny back. Finally, letting go, she picked up her bag and started to the bedroom. Turning around, she saw that Jinny was following her. Once in the bedroom she sat the bag down on the floor and collapsed onto the bed. Even though she had spent the last 5 weeks laying in a hospital bed, she was truely exhausted.

Jinny followed suit, even down to the collapsing on the bed part. They both lay there, their eyes closed. Finally, Jinny scooted over and rested her head on Kate's stomach. Neither of them said a word as they fell asleep like that, safe and secure.

***THE DIVISION-TWO DAYS LATER***
Captain Kate McCafferty and Jinny Exstead walked into the division together. Standing there were both Magda and CD, smiling. They ran over to the tow women and exchanged hugs all around.

"Glad to have you back" CD said, with a smile. She had really missed them... both of them actually. "Hey Cap, I got a new partner" she said and motioned to the dark haired man sitting at Angela's old desk."

"Oh yeah? How's it working out?" Kate asked, wondering if this was going to be another Angela or if it were going to be better.

"Fine" CD said. "In fact, it's working rather well." CD looked back over at Brian, her partner, and smiled at him, motioning for him to come over, then turned back to the captain. "But he was sick yesterday so me and Mag are on a case together" CD quickly added.

Magda nodded in agreement and then smiled again. "Gosh... it's so... great to have you back!!" she said once again and hugged them both. Pulling away, she could see them laughing. "Well, it's good to see you two doing that again."

Brian walked over to the group of women and gave a cheerful grin. "Hi" he said, and stuck out his hand for the captain to shake. "You must be Captain McCafferty" he said and her nod reaffirmed his statement. "And you..." he said, turning to Jinny, "Must be Jinny." He smiled warmly and held out his hand to shake. 'They didn't tell me she was so beautiful' he thought as her hand met his in their first official physical contact.

Jinny smiled back in greeting. It was interesting having a male inspector around again. Ever since Peter was transfered, it was like the girls club there. "Hi" she said and broke off the handshake. She looked at her desk and sighed, sitting down. "It's good to be home!" she said, grinning. She watched as Magda and Kate both rolled their eyes and she laughed.

"Well" Kate said, looking at all her inspectors. "I guess we have to get back to work now." She heard her inspectors groaned and smiled. 'Jinny's right... it is good to be back.' "And since you two.." she pointed to Jinny and Brian "don't have anything to do... follow me" she motioned for them to follow her to her office and they complied.

Brian took up end of the line... and he did it on purpose. Jinny was certainly pretty and he wouldn't mind going out for a few drinks with her... if she was single, that is. He watched her walk in front of him... watched how her body moved and studied it. He smiled to himself and laughed. 'Damn Brian, you can't get your mind of girls if you tried.'

Jinny, on the other hand, was doing the same thing... only with Kate. She smiled. They had spent five weeks couped up in the same hospital room, yet spent the last two nights 'And a day' she thought, together at home... well, Kate's house without getting on each other's nerves. She just wished she had more time OUT of the hospital instead of IN.

When Kate got to her office, she turned around and watched as both Jinny and Brian took seats in the chairs opposite her desk. Picking up some folders that she found in her "case" file she quickly leafed through them. 'Here' she thought as she found the one that was the most pending. "Attempted homicide of an edlerly couple" she said and handed the file to Jinny.

Taking the case file from Kate, Jinny looked it over. "Seems like a routine investigation" she said, turning to Brian, who just nodded. Sighing, she got up, glancing at Kate slightly and smiling. "Uh... let's go" she then said quickly, covering up. Luckily, it didn't seem that Brian had caught the small shared moment between the two women and Jinny was glad.

***JINNY'S COP CAR***
Brian watched the brunette as she drove the car. They had just come back from interviewing the couple that was almost shot as well as neighbors and friends. Jinny was a good cop... there was no doubt about that. "So..." he started, trying to seem casual and not too eager. "How about we.. you know... go out for a few drinks after work?"

Hearing those words, Jinny almost lost control of the car. Concentrating, she got back her control and glanced over at Brian. "Um.. well... you see..." she stammered. She wasn't about to tell this new inspector about her and Kate... even though both Magda and CD knew. She averted her eyes back to the road and fell silent, hoping that he wouldn't bring it up again... especially since he was cute.

"Oh, ok, I see... I'm not good enough for you" he said bluntly, not caring enough to hide his feelings. Somehow he knew this girl was picky. 'Well, why wouldn't she be?' he reasoned... 'She's good looking.' He stared out the car window expressionless. He had just made a fool out of himself... he knew it.

Jinny felt her stomach twist. She didn't want this guy to think he was a loser... but there was no way she was going to tell him about her... current relationship. Deciding simplicity and vagueness best, she simply said "No, I'm seeing someone." She glanced back over at Brian and saw him relax somewhat, so she let herself relax. 'Good, now that this is over with...' she thought, but was interupted by Brian.

"Who?" he asked simply. Brian knew that it was intrusive, but he really wanted to know... so that he knew what kind of guy Jinny Exstead went for. Waiting, he saw her tense up.

"Umm.." she said and glanced down quickly. Her hands tightened on the steering wheel and she looked nervous. "Well..." she started again, but knew she couldn't come up with a lie, so she sighed, not saying anything.

"That's what I thought" he said and smirked a little. "You're not seeing anyone, are you?" He saw her relax again and he laughed out loud. "Alright.. seriously... what's wrong with me?"

Jinny smiled. 'Thank God' she thought. She was coming up to a red light, so she slowed down then came to a stop. Turning to face the man in the passenger seat, she answered him. "Nothing. Seriously... nothing." She watched his response and it was a good one. "But... I'm not sure about drinks..." she said and saw that Brian still didn't lose his smile. 'How am I gonna get out of this?' she was thinking, then a thought occured to her 'Hey, it's not like a date or anything... and I'll tell Kate... and she'll understand.' Smiling once again, Jinny gave in. "Ok... a drink... we can go out for a drink." The light turned green and Jinny saw it out of the corner of her eye and pressed the gas peddle.

***THE DIVISION LOCKER ROOM-NEAR QUITTING TIME***
Jinny looked in her locker as she heard footsteps coming towards her. Shutting it, she turned and saw Kate and smiled. "Hey" she said and walked closer towards the division captain. Smiling, she put her arms around her and brought her slowly into a kiss. Finally, breaking it off, she just smiled at her. "I've got something to tell you" she said.

Kate smiled back at Jinny. "Ok, what?" she asked, keeping her arms around the inspector.

"Well..." Jinny started, and broke away from Kate. "It's Brian... today... he asked me out for a drink or two..." she watched Kate's reaction, which one could say wasn't exactly thrilled. "And I told him no... and he just.. well... he got all weird.. and... and I told him that I was seeing someone" she paused and looked up. "But I didn't tell him.. but then he asked what was wrong with him.. and... well, I'm going out for drinks with him in about..." she looks at her watch "15 minutes."

Kate just looked at Jinny. She was going out for drinks with Brian? She didn't understand. Shaking her head she blinked, trying to make it not seem real, but it didn't work. "Jinny... why..." she started, but Jinny cut her off.

"Well, you see, I figured that if I went out for drinks with him this once then he would stop asking questions about me seeing anyone.. and I could definitely let him down easy after we had drinks, and..." she said quickly, hoping Kate would understand. She got the reaction she was looking for as a smile met her eyes.

***ANCHORSIDE-LATER***
Jinny squirmed in her seat. Her and Brian had been out now for over two hours and something was making her uncomfortable. It wasn't him... no, it's definitely wasn't him. 'It's me' she thought, but quickly pushed that out of her mind. It returned a few minutes later with even more intensity. 'You're falling for him, Jinny' she thought, but instead stood up, rejecting any feelings and thinking only of the fact that Kate was probably wondering where she was. "I should probably go" she said to Brian who was also standing up.

"Good idea" he said and placed money down on the check. "I'll walk you home" he said and smiled at her. The evening had turned out to be better than he had imagined, and he was really falling for this girl... he was falling for Jinny. Grabbing her elbow, he lead her out of the doors.

"Umm.. no, that's ok... I can walk home by myself." She disengaged their arms and made herself stand about 2 feet from him. "Thank you... for the drinks and everything" she said and slowly started to back away, heading towards Kate's house, leaving Brian behind to watch after her.

***KATE'S HOUSE***
Kate sat at her kitchen table looking over some paperwork that she had taken home. She didn't even realize what time it was until she heard the door opening. She glanced at her watch and was shocked to see how late it was.

Jinny walked into the kitchen and saw Kate sitting there and she smiled. Walking over to her, she gave her a hug and kissed her on top of the head. "Hey you" she said and grabbed a chair to sit next to her. "Is this what you've been doing all night?" she asked, surveying the papers that were laying around the table.

"Yes" Kate answered simply. "And I assume you had fun... I mean... you spent over two hours there." Kate watched as Jinny's face faltered a bit, then regained it's former appearance. "So..."

Jinny panicked. She didn't want to let on about what she had felt tonight... she didn't need to... she had Kate. 'And that's all I need' she thought. Suddenly she felt Kate's arms around her and she froze, not realizing it or meaning to, and tears came into her eyes.

Kate leaned back and looked at Jinny. When she saw the tears she knew there had to be something wrong. "Jinny?" she asked as she looked into the inspector's eyes. She could tell Jinny wanted to tell her something, but she didn't know what.

Sighing, Jinny gave up... she had to tell Kate... she would understand. "Well, Brian.. you know, he's sweet.. he's cute... he's..." she trailed off, taking a breathe "he's... well, I think I'm starting to like him..." she looked into Kate's eyes and saw the hurt there and immediately wanted to take it back. "But I don't care... because I have you..."

Kate couldn't believe what she was hearing. Was Jinny actually telling her about liking someone else? That's when Kate came to the hardest decision in her life. She wasn't going to get hurt first and worst... not anymore. "Get out" she stated flatly, tears coming to her eyes.

Jinny just stared at the captain. She couldn't even move. If she had thought that telling Kate would illicit this reaction she would've kept it to herself. Finally, after a moment of disbelief, Jinny just turned around and walked out, leaving behind anything that belonged to her.

Kate watched Jinny walk out the door and she broke down in tears. Making her way to the bedroom, she just lay down on her bed. As she looked up at the ceiling she wondered if what she had just done was the right thing or not. On one hand, she didn't want to get hurt... but on the other hand she couldn't believe she had done that to the one person in her life that she counted on and loved. "Damnit Kate" she said outloud to no one, and it echoed in the empty house.

***JINNY***
Jinny stumbled down the sidewalk in a daze. Before she realized it she was standing in front of her apartment building and she numbly climbed the steps. Her face was wet from crying. She still couldn't believe what had happened.

When she got into her apartment she looked around at the mess and she collapsed to the floor. Her hair fell in her face and she didn't bother wiping it away... she just curled up into a ball and wept, not thinking of anything, just wanting to see Kate again.

After about an hour, the phone raised Jinny from her spot on the floor. Thinking it was Kate, she rushed over and picked up the reciever. "Hello?" she asked desperately. It wasn't Kate. It was Brian. "Brian? Uh.. I..." Jinny scanned the room and wiped her eyes. Brian was asking her if he could meet her again tomorrow. "Uh.. sure. You can." she said, not really wanting to, but she felt she didn't have anything to lose. Hanging up the phone, Jinny once again looked around her room and started to cry again. 'This is the worst thing that's ever happened to me' she thought. A few minutes later, she was asleep on her couch.

***THE DIVISION-NEXT DAY***
Kate McCafferty opened the door to her office and glanced around. Just as she thought, Jinny wasn't there. Luckily, her and Magda were just on desk duty. Walking over to the Puerto Rican, she made her presence known by slapping a huge folder on her desk. "You'll.. have to do this alone today, Magda. Jinny's... uh.. sick."

Magda looked up at her captain and immediately knew something was wrong. She looked at her, concerned. "Hey Cap... everything ok?" Magda asked and watched as Kate's face fell. Now she knew something was wrong.

"I'll... tell you later" Kate managed to get out before she turned around and went back into her office. As she shut the door, tears ran down her face. She walked over to her phone and picked it up, intending to dial Jinny's number, but she couldn't do it. Sighing, she replaced the reciever and slumped into her chair, her head in her hands.

Brian turned around from his desk and faced Magda. He had overheard the conversation between her and the captain and he was hoping he wasn't hearing right.. Jinny couldn't be sick. "Hey Magda.. where's Jinny?" he asked casually. His face fell as Magda confirmed what he had heard. "Man..." he said as he turned around in his desk. "We were supposed to meet for dinner."

Magda's eyes opened wide as she heard Brian's words. If Jinny was supposed to meet Brian for dinner, what had happened between her and Kate? Magda slowly got up and walked over to the Captains door. "Hey Cap, it's me" she said as she knocked on the door. She heard a muffled "come in" and when she opened the door she could tell that Kate had been crying.

Magda stared at the captain for a miinute, but then realized what she was doing and quickly shut the door behind her. "Kate? What's going on?" Her questions were met with sad stares, and again she wondered what was going on.

Kate's mind comprehended Magda's question, but she didn't know if she wanted to tell her anything. When she saw the look in Magda's face however, she knew she had no other choice. Sighing, she looked down as fresh tears sprung into her eyes. "I... I kicked her out" Kate said barely above a whisper.

Magda was shocked. She had thought that Jinny had done something to Kate and that Kate was just really upset about it. Now it was a completely different ball game. Magda took a deep breath, then exhaled. "Kate... what happened?"

"She..." Kate trailed off and looked down. She did't want to be here today... she didn't need this. Jinny meant everything to her, but the hurt she felt inside was too painful. It was almost as if she couldn't go on. "She told me she likes Brian" she finally said and looked up at the inspector that stood in her office once again.

Magda saw the sadness on Kate's face... she could feel the intensity of it just from the way Kate looked at her and spoke to her. She just stared at her captain, not knowing what to say... obviously this was tearing Kate apart.

***ANCHORSIDE-THAT NIGHT***
Jinny and Brian sat in a booth in the restaurant and bar, talking. Brian looked across the table at Jinny and smiled. She really was pretty.. and funny... and smart. Damn, he had it bad. "Heheh.. yeah. You know Jinny, after last night I thought you didn't like me" he said and laughed.

Jinny raised her eyebrows and sipped on her coke. Getting a mischievous smile on her face, she looked over at Brian. "Yeah, well... things change" she stated sweetly. Inside, however, Jinny was a wreck. She couldn't believe she was doing this... Brian didn't mean anything to her,a nd for once in her life she didn't know what to do.

Brian kept looking at Jinny from across the table. He had no inclination that something was wrong; all he saw was what Jinny wanted him to see... a girl VERY interested in him... and he was quite happy about it. "So why weren't you at work today?" he asked casually, waiting for her reply.

Kate McCafferty walked into Anchorside looking slightly haggard. She had already been to Jinny's apartment looking for her, but she wasn't there. 'This is her second home' she thought wearily and looked twards the bar. She saw no sign of Jinny and sighed again. 'Where could she be?' she thought and turned to leave, when she caught sight of Brian sitting at a booth across the room... with Jinny.

"Well..." Jinny started, faltering. She had to make up a lie rather quickly, and she wracked her brain. "I wasn't feeling that well this morning, and I just decided not to come in." She looked at Brian to see his reaction and to her relief he bought it. "But I'm all better now" she said, smiling.

Kate watched the interaction between Jinny and Brian with a sad heart. She made her way over to the bar and sat where neither of them could readily see her but she could see them. When the bartended came over she was startled. "Uh.. no.. nothing for me yet, thanks" she said and watched as the bartender turned away. "Uh.. wait..." The bartender turned around again and looked at her. "How much has Jinny had to drink today?" she asked and motioned over towards the booth.

The bartender knew Jinny well. She had always come in here to get drunk and he had even slept with her once. "Nothing tonight... surprisingly" he said, and laughed. It really was a surprise that Jinny wasn't drinking. He could've sworn alcohol was her best friend.

Kate couldn't believe it. Jinny was out with Brian, not drinking, and appearing to have a good time. She glanced over at the booth again and watched as Jinny got up and headed towards the bathroom. Thinking that this would be her only chance, she quietly followed Jinny in, making sure that Brian didn't see her. When she got into the bathroom, Jinny was looking at herself in the mirror.

'Damnit, Jinny, you've gotten yourself into another mess' she was thinking as she looked at herself in the mirror. Suddenly, another figure appeared in the image. 'Kate!' she she saw and wheeled around. "What the hell are you doing here?" she asked cruely. 'Jinny... stop being so mean... you want her to take you back...' she thought, but couldn't bring herself to act it.

Kate stared in shock at the dark-haired Jinny. She couldn't believe the words that had just come out of the younger woman's mouth. "Jinny... I've been looking for you.. we need to talk..." Kate said and watched Jinny.

"No... we don't need to talk. YOU are the one who threw ME out, remember?" Jinny spat back. She didn't want Kate to see her weakness... to see that she desperately wanted to talk more than anything in the world. "Besides, I LIKE Brian" she said and stormed past Kate and out the bathroom door.

Staring after Jinny, Kate felt her body collapsing and started to sob. She went into a stall so that no one could see her and just sat there for a long time, trying to cope. There really was no way she could anymore. It was as if her heart had been wrenched out of her chest. Tears continually ran down Kate's cheeks until she couldn't take it anymore... and she finally knew what she had to do.

*smiles* this is gonna SUCK, but here goes anyway:

***JINNY'S APT***

Jinny stared at her apartment wall. For once she hadn't drinken anything that night and feeling sober was something she wasn't used to. After Brian had walked her home 'and kissed me goodnight' she thought wearily, Jinny had just been doing the same thing for an hour... by this time the wall was looking quite interesting.

All night she couldn't help feeling bad about what she had done to Kate. Sighing, she turned to walk to her bedroom when the phone rang. 'I'll let the machine get it' she thought as she trudged to her bedroom throwing off her clothes anywhere there was room. As soon as she heard her little introductory message end and the beep sound, she listened vaguely to what the person on the other end was saying.

"... Jinny... Jinny, I know you're probably not home..." the voice of Kate McCafferty echoed out of the box on her livingroom table and Jinny froze. Turning around, she listened more carefully. "I.. I just wanted to let you know what happened to me in case you were wondering. I... think..." the voice cut off and a loud thump could be heard. Racing to the phone, Jinny picked up the reciever.

"KATE!!!! KATE!!!!!!" she screamed into the telephone, tears already starting to pour down her face. "Oh god.. oh god... this is my fault..." she started rambling as she looked around frantically. Finally, finding her keys, she ran out the front door.

***KATE'S HOUSE***

Kate slowly opened her eyes and could hear Jinny screaming at her through the phone, but she couldn't get up the energy to bring the reciever to her ear and speak. 'The pills are already taking affect' she thought and she started to cry. Since when did her life become this hectic? Since when did it matter to her if someone loved her back or not? 'Since Jinny' she thought as she faded off into blackness.

Jinny rammed her shoulder into the front door of Kate's house for the third time. 'I should have brought my gun' she thought, as she braced herself for another full-body hit. Her body connected with the door and it gave way, sending the inspector flying across the living room. Picking herself off the floor, she looked around and saw Kate instantly; she was laying on the floor, telephone in hand. "Oh my god.." Jinny ran over to Kate and tried to shake her with no luck. "Kate! Kate, you listen to me, ok?! You're NOT dying!" Tears streamed down her face as she checked for a pulse on Kate's neck... it was there, but barely.

Jinny took the phone out of Kate's hand and hung it up. Lifting her captain off the floor and cradling her, she made her way out the door, stumbling. 'She has to be ok... she has to be ok...' she kept thinking, as she walked towards her car. The reality of the situation was making itself all too clear and all Jinny knew that she couldn't lose this woman who she had in her arms. She was just about to get Kate into the car when she felt a tug on her shirt. "Jinny..." a hoarse whisper cried, and Jinny looked into the eyes of a heartbroken woman, knowing she had done this to her, and she lost it.

***MAGDA'S HOUSE***

Magda sat on her living room couch with a magazine in her hand. Yawning, she got up from the couch and went over to Ben's room. 'He's so adorable when he sleeps' she thought and smiled to herself. She had had an interesting week at work. Finding out that Jinny and Kate were no longer together had her working overtime on both ends to keep up appearances. Looking one last time at her son, Magda headed off to her own bedroom and shut the door.

***JINNY'S CAR***

Jinny had the gas pedal to the floor. She had no intentions of letting Kate not make it. Swerving through traffic, she cursed under her breath at the idiots that seemed to be flocking around her. Glancing over at Kate, she could see the older woman slumped over, barely awake... barely hanging on. "Kate... Kate, it's going to be ok.... we're almost there." She reached over and grabbed Kate's hand, squeezing it reassuringly. Taking her eyes off of Kate and back on the road, Jinny could see that she actually WAS almost at the hospital. As she pulled into the parking lot near the emergency room her breathe caught in her throat. 'They're not going to understand... no one is going to understand...' She sat there in her car, thinking, until she heard a tap on her windshield. Looking up, she saw a hospital orderly, and she got out of the car. "Umm... that woman..." she said, pointing to Kate "Kate McCafferty... she... she needs help..."

The orderly looked at Jinny then at Kate. He could tell that the older woman was clearly in need of medical assistance. Rushing to the other side of the car, he motioned for others to help him as they carefully lifted Kate out.

Watching them, Jinny started to cry again. She couldn't believe this was happening. 'I knew I was wrong from the beginning... when I told her...' Jinny thought as she wiped away the slivers of tears. She saw Kate being wheeled into the hospital and blindly followed until she felt a tap on her shoulder and wheeled around. An elderly woman in a nurses uniform was standing there.

"Excuse me... what relation are you to the woman.. ah..." she said looking down at her clipboard "... Kate McCafferty?"

Jinny looked at the woman and was frozen. Inside she was torn between all sorts of feelings. "She's um...."

This story is really well-written I just don't think the story plot is the best in the world. nice of you to be so close-minded and judgemental. this is exactly why i hate society. and i mean that. i really really hate society. second of all, there were four fics that came before this one... they outlined what happened, etc. if you had bothered to read them, you would know the character's did not just BECOME lesbians. oh, and jinny isn't a lesbian... she's bisexual. (but then again, you wouldn't know that if you didn't read the others).

now, it is my turn to take offense when you say i am "ruining" a character nancy has portrayed. i find that one of the MOST offensive statements i have ever heard. people like you feed the homophobia in this world... and believe me, i know FIRST HAND about it. and so does my sister. saying a character is "ruined" because they happen to like someone of the same sex is absolutely ludicrous. i write these stories because that's how i feel the characters *could* be construed if so inclined. my request is that you refrain from reading if your that homophobic. i do not take well to people that are... for obvious reasons.

and thank you all who have stuck up for me and my right to write whatever i want. now, i am done. i must go take my sister somewhere. don't bother me again with these statements that homosexuality is a perversion. it is not.

First of all get a life. "Lesbo" isn't going to cut it around here. If you're going to be a close-minded, homophobic, human being at least express your views with respect for others. Lesbian, Gay, Homosexual, Same-sex Couple, these are all acceptable terms. Lesbo, ***(thankfully you haven't gone that far, but close-minded people have the tendency to eventually go that far) those are unacceptable terms. They won't be tolerated. You're right this board belongs to all of us, but that means that we all get to decide a couple of ground rules, like respect others. This is a respectful, informative story about the perspective of two consenting adults and their relationship, so leave it be. I recently read a story at fanfiction.net thinking it would also be respectful, what I saw was tasteless. Seeing as I know a couple of homosexual people, I find this a wonderful story. If fairly depicts the situation. Now, let me clear up I do believe homosexuality is wrong. That said, our opinions don't give us the right to judge others. Some of the nicest people I know are homosexual. Does this mean that I condone this particular aspect of their lives, no it does not; does this mean I'm going to let your homophobic lifestyle degrade them, hell no. So I repeat get over it. If you're going to say things life "lesbo" and "sicko" be prepared to get a response from me. Go ahead and respond to my response. hey everyone! sorry it's been so long since i updated, but things have been horribly hectic at college and stuff. bleh. so... i think i'm going to write a little bit for you here before the alcohol i'm drinking takes it's full effect. heh. alright, here goes:

"... her.. um" Jinny couldn't think. She didn't even realize that it would come to this... that she would have to tell the hospital what her relation to Kate. "I'm one of her Inspectors on the police force... she's my... captain."

The nurse nodded and started walking away, leaving Jinny standing there. Bewildered, she walked after her. "Excuse me.. but.. um... could you keep me updated on how she is and... and can I see her when she's ok?"

"I'm sorry ma'am, but only family members can see Ms. McCafferty...unless she specifically requests someone else."

Jinny's body felt weak. Sure, she had broken it off with Kate, but part of her knew it was wrong... part of her knew she still loved the woman who she just drove to the hospital. "She's... also.. my... girlfriend... if that makes any..."

"I'm sorry, ma'am... you're not family.... I... I can't." The nurse stood and watched Jinny's face fall and shook her head. "As much as I'd like to... I just can't."

Jinny watched as the nurse walked away again. Slowly, she found a chair to sit down in and slumped down in it, her face in her hands. 'How did this happen?" she thought. 'Oh, I know. It's all your fault. You made her do this.' Her thoughts trailed off and Jinny found tears running down her cheeks again. Quickly wiping them away, Jinny observed the people in the waiting room with her. A mother and a sick child. A young man in his twenties ringing his hands with despair. 'All these people are here for someone else too' she thought 'only they'll get to see them.'

Jinny was so immersed in her thoughts she didn't realize the nurse that she was just talking to was walking towards her until she felt a tap on her shoulder. "Excuse me... miss?" Looking up, she waited for the nurse to continue. "Miss McCafferty..."

hey everyone! i'm SO sorry i haven't posted more, but see, i'm back at school now and there's only two weeks left and i have SO much stuff to do it's insane! i now currently have a break between classes (one got out early... thankgod) and i suppose i'll write a little more... :)

".... Miss McCafferty is awake now." The nurse smiled reassuringly down at Jinny, whose face showed the intensity of her relief. "She isn't talking much, however, and I'm afraid you still can't see her, but... well... maybe she'll ask for you..." the nurse trailed off and gave Jinny a pat on the back.

Jinny sat and watched as the nurse walked away once again, then continued to stare at the floor. So much had happened in these past few days. 'I have to call Mag' she thought and slowly got up, walking outside the doors and opening up her cell phone. Dialing Magda's number, she waited with glazed over eyes.


***MAGDA'S HOUSE***

Magda turned over in her bed and covered her head with her pillow. The ring of the phone was piercing her ears, but it wouldn't relent. Getting up, she switched on her bedroom light and reached for the phone. "Hello?" she asked in a groggy voice. "Jinny?" Magda's eyes shot open when she heard the state of Captain McCafferty. "So she's okay now? Have you seen her?" "What?! Only family... okay... umm... No, Jinny, I can't come down... Ben's here and I... Yes. Yes, I'll come as soon as my mom comes tomorrow morning. Yes Jinny. Alright.... bye.."

Magda hung up the phone and shook her head in disbelief. Kate had tried to kill herself. She still couldn't believe it. 'Well, there's no way I'm getting to bed anytime soon now' she thought, and walked out into the living room, turning on late-night tv, waiting for morning to come.


***HOSPITAL***

Jinny closed her cell phone and sighed. She knew that Magda couldn't make it down here right now.... she knew that Ben was there. 'Still... I'm so... afraid' she thought. Head down, she walked back into the emergency room where the nurse from before was waiting for her. Rushing over, she didn't say a word, only looked on in anticipation.

"Kate is asking for you, Jinny" the nurse said, and smiled. "Come this way, I'll lead you to her..."

Jinny followed the nurse down the small hallway to one of the emergency rooms. When she got there, the nurse stepped aside, letting Jinny pass through the doorway. Laying on the bed was Kate, hooked up to IVs, looking pale and lifeless... but she was awake... and that's all that mattered to Jinny.

it's after 3am, i woke up with a headache and i can't sleep, so i'm writing a little bit for ya'll since i promised i would... and britt's gonna keep after me to add more after this, right britt? :)

Jinny continued to stare at Kate and slowly made her way over to the bed. Her thoughts were racing, and she didn't even know what to say as tears started to fall steadily. Looking into Kate's eyes, she saw the pain and hurt that she had caused. 'I can't believe I did this' she thought, and lovingly took Kate's hand. "Kate.... I... I'm sorry.." she said, as her body shook with more tears. "A... after that first night... even when you saw me.... at... at anchorside... I didn't like him." She stopped to register what Kate's reaction was... she thought she saw a hint of relief, so she went on. "I wasn't even having a good time that night... I was... thinking about you..." She trailed off and her other hand smoothed Kate's hair.

Kate looked at Jinny, the woman she loved, with even more love than before. She knew how Jinny was... how she couldn't express emotion that well... except for anger, that is. Still feeling weak from her ordeal, Kate tentively squeezed Jinny's hand in response. "I love you" she whispered, and fresh tears sprung into her eyes. She watched as Jinny leaned over and laid her head on her stomach. They stayed like that for quite some time until Jinny moved, stretching.

"That could hurt someone's back badly" she said, laughing. Pulling over a chair, she sat in it, holding Kate's hand until they both fell asleep.


***HOSPITAL ROOM-6:30AM***

Jinny's eyes fluttered open as the sunlight seeped in through the shades. Carefully removing her hand from Kate's, she stretched and stood up, walking towards the window. Staring out through the slats in the blinds, she watched the end of the sunrise. 'This is so beautiful' she thought, and smiled to herself. Her thoughts were interupted by a knock at the door and she turned around. "Magda!" she said, trying not to be too loud as too wake Kate. She glanced over towards the bed and noticed that it was too late anyway... Kate was sitting up and smiling at her.

"Hey Jin.. Hey Cap" Magda said as she walked in the doorway.


alright guys, i'm sorry that was so short and sucked, but i'm now exhausted and can't hold my head up. i'm not going to be here tomorrow until after 10pm, so i don't know when i can continue, but hopefully soon. *falls asleep*

okay, here's more:

The expression on Magda's face looked grim and Jinny couldn't help but wonder what was going on. "Mag? Are you okay?"

"It's CD.... and Brian. They're..." she cut her words short and glanced at Kate, trying to judge her reaction to Brian's name. When she felt it was safe, she moved on. "They're in the old Buckman warehouse downtown... being held hostage. We have the place surrounded, but.. well... they want Jinny and I to go in. Says it's our turf and we'd... we'd handle it well." Magda looked from Jinny back to Kate, then to Jinny again. "You up for it?"

Jinny, in truth, wasn't up to anything right now, but she knew she couldn't abandon her duty as a police officer. Walking over to Kate, she held her hand. "I'll be okay... you know I have to go." She watched as Kate nodded her agreement. 'Guess I have to be Inspector Exstead' she thought to herself as she made her way towards Magda and then out the door.

Watching Jinny leave brought a tear to Kate's eye and she didn't bother to wipe it away. "Bye Jinny" she whispered, as she pulled out the tube that was supplying her air, making her fade into a final blackness.


***BUCKMAN WAREHOUSE***

Pulling up to the scene, Magda takes one last look at Jinny. "Everything OK?" She observed Jinny smile and nod her head. 'Well... I sure hope she's okay.' she thought, and opened the car door.

"Inspector's Exstead and Ramirez! Good to have you here. Here's the scenario. Rodriguez has both inspectors held hostage. We believe that Inspector DeLorenzo may have been knocked unconcious. Rodriguez has threatened death."

Jinny looked at her informant on the situation, then back at Magda. "Alright... we're on it."
