Rest In Peace to all everybody that lost their lives- people on the planes, brave people, the brave firemen. I think we all need to watch Rescue Me and appreciate how much the firefighters do and have done for us, if nobody realizes. I think this is a day where we all need to put aside the drama, fighting and arguing and unite. Even if it is 7 years later, history is still apart of us.

I will never forget driving to work on 9-11-01 and sitting in traffic. One of my favorite Amy Grant songs was playing "I will Remember You". In what was a very strange occurrence, the radio station interrupted the song to air a report about a plane crashing into the World Trade Center, and seconds later, a segment from Pres Bush about a possible terrorist attack on the World Trade Center. They never did go back to the song, but I will forever associate it with 9/11. Instead of putting up a flag to commemorate that horrible day, I make sure I play this song at least once. It has nothing to do with 9/11, but ironically the words seem to fit.

I was at work while all the chaos was going on (the towers falling, etc), so I wasn't able to see anything (no TV). On my lunch break; out of pure curiosity, I walked across the street to a Kmart and was able to watch a little of it on TV. However the picture was so bad that it was hard to make out anything.

It really hit me when I was driving home that night. There is a big sign that welcomes people to our town and a big flag pole. The flag had been lowered to half-staff and that's when I started crying...:(

I went up in the World Trade Center twice; once in 1982 and again in 1987. Nothing special but I'll never forget it. Then in 2004 (and 2005) I went to NYC again and went to the WT site. It was a somber feeling, although by that time it was more of a construction site. They had a nice memorial on a chain length fence with pictures and so forth. Across the street is a little church that had a bunch of quilts and artwork made by students to commemorate 9/11 as well. Very emotional and very touching.

PS: I tried to upload some of my own pictures but I guess they are too big. But these are just as poignant.

I've never been inside the WTC. I remember I was in 7th grade Science Class, I remember the teacher's name too and the occurence. We all stopped, the teachers got word of it but didn't tell us, imagine telling middle schoolers, we would of been so tramitized and scared. So we just continued on with our work. I remember lighting candles with friends & family numerous times all throughout that week and even during the 1 year anniversary. A day I will never forget.

I was in 7th grade at the time, and didn't find out until I got out of school, either...which was all the better because I probably would have been scared all day in school had I known. What a horrible day. Sad.

There's flags outside my school today, one for each life that was lost.

We had a moment of silence at school today. Most of the children don't remember it. I will never forget it. I pray they will never have to know the horror that happened here seven years ago today.

I was in 6th grade and class had just started. I had some hippie teacher at that time so we didn't really do anything too patriotic (heaven forbid  ) instead we sat around in a circle and passed around a sacred "talking stick" and shared our feelings on violence.

RIP everyone that was injured/killed or knew someone who was injured or killed on 911. God Bless.

I was in seventh grade. There was something brief said about it, but I thought it was an accident. Not until I got home that I found out it was on purpose.

I'll never forget the people that lost their lives that day.

RIP to all of the men, women, firefighters & officers who lost their lives that day. May we never forget the sacrifices they made for our country. It's easy to get wrapped up in the drama of everyday life, but today should be a different day. My heart goes out to all of the family members who lost a loved one that fateful day. I never visited the WTC towers, but I did visit the WTC site two years ago when I went to NYC. It was a very sad experience. Being there, knowing how many people had lost their lives that day, reading the notes, cards, banners people had left at a nearby church...it was just really sad & emotionally draining. I will never forget that entire experience.

oh yeah...during school that day i had only heard bits and pieces of what had happened and i was absolutely terrified until i got home and got it all set straight by watching the news. not that it was no longer an enormous deal, but just hearing that your country is under attack and thousands of people have been killed and the WTC is gone is much scarier than it is after you've put everything together.

outside of this thread, i haven't seen one acknowledgement of today. it's so weird. when class was starting in choir the director said something like "today is september 11th. section leaders, your papers say september 22nd, that's a typo." but i guess it's normal for those unaffected to be less aware of it every year.

I hate to say this, but I am a complete idiot! It's not a big deal, but in my earlier post, I posted the link to the wrong Amy Grant song! So here's the RIGHT song, although that other song would have worked as well.

THIS is the song that was playing on the radio when I heard the news... the song I will forever associate with 9/11...

And here are the lyrics...

Sometimes we make it harder than it is
We'll take a perfect night
And fill it up with words we don't mean
Dark sides best unseen
And we wonder why we're feeling this way.

Sometimes I wonder if we really feel the same
Why we can be unkind
Questioning the strongest of hearts
That's when we must start
Believing in the one thing that has gotten us this far.

Chorus
That's what love is for
To help us through it
That's what love is for
Nothing else can do it.
Melt our defenses
Bring us back to our senses
Give us strength to try once more
Baby, that's what love is for.

Sometimes I see you
And you don't know I am there
And I'm washed away by emotions
I hold deep down inside
Getting stronger with time
It's living through the fire
And holding on we find

Chorus

Believing in the one thing
That has gotten us this far
That's what love is for
To help us through it
That's what love is for
Nothing else can do it.
Round off the edges
Talk us down from the ledges
Give us strength to try once more
Baby, that's what love is for

That's what love is for.
That's what love is for
Melt our defenses
Bring us back to our senses
Give us strength to try once more
Baby, that's what love is for.
That's what love is for.
That's what love is for.
That's what love is for.

There's an old Pink Floyd song called "Goodbye, Blue Sky" (made in the late
70's I think) that has always reminded me of that terrible day--here's the lyrics:

Look mummy, there's an airplane up in the sky....

Did, did, did, did you see the frightened ones?
Did, did, did, did you hear the falling bombs?
Did, did, did, did you ever wonder why we had to run for shelter
When the promise of a brave new world fell beneath the clear blue sky?

Did, did, did, did you see the frightened ones?
Did, did, did, did you hear the falling bombs?
The flames are all long gone
But the pain lingers on

Goodbye blue sky
Goodbye blue sky
Goodbye
Goodbye

It's erie how it seems to follow the events--from the innocent child's voice saying, "look, an airplane", to the description of the "clear blue day" (it was a clear blue day in NYC that morning) and how we had to say goodbye to the "blue sky" (the safe world we once knew)

So sad! :rip: :(

You are not an idiot, sweetie!!! I'm sorry to say, but I have to laugh whenever I hear Alan Jackson's "Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning". Not because of the song itself or the event that inspired it, but because in Cleveland they did a parody set to that tune about the Browns' fans throwing bottles on the field after one notoriously bad game (I was at that game, too, but didn't throw anything). So I always associate that song with the parody song. :o

I was on Holiday that week and I had just dropped my (now ex) girlfriend off at work and was headed home when i turned on the radio and the Morning Show was talking about it. I thought they were joking at first, but soon realized that it was no joke. I will never forget that day.

9-11-01 was my son's ninth birthday. I took him to the store that morning and we bought cupcakes for him to take to school, to share and celebrate his birthday. I dropped him off just before school started at 8:00 am, went to work and watched all the terror unfold on the nursing home facility's TV. Some of the elderly people were getting very agitated, pacing back and forth, some were crying. Several times, we turned off the news station to something more light and cheerful... But inevitably, someone would always turn it back to the news.

Later that day, I pulled out my cash register receipt for the cupcakes I bought that morning. The time on it was 7:46 am. We are an hour behind New York, so that meant that I was buying cupcakes at the same moment the first plane hit the first tower. I've kept that stupid reciept all these years!

Sorry if I jump in a bit too late here.

I remember that day too. But over here in Sweden, it was already afternoon, when it happened. I had just come home from school, and I was watching "Oprah" with my mum. Then some text about airplanes crashing into WTC came up and started running across the TV screen. At first, we thought there had been an accident. Then we heard it was an attack. All other TV shows were canceled that evening, so there could be extra bulletins about the attack.

The next morning, when I got to school, first period was Maths. And our teacher, Britt-Marie, just said "Today is the day after yesterday". And we all knew what she meant.

I will always asocciate the date 9/11 with this attack, and I'm sure I'm not alone.

Sorry I am a bit Late to this...RIP to all the people who we lost.. Huggs and appreciation to all who helped...and those who were injured and tramatized...This is an awful day..That I will never forget....I can remember it like it was yesterday...I was home sick that day and was sleeping when I heard the home phone ring...thought nothing of it and that I would just listen to the message later on but the calls kept coming so I got up to see who and what was going on...It was My Mom calling me from work to tell me about it and tell me to put on the tv or radio...so i did and watched all day long all the horrific things that took place...I was soooo worried about my close friend Bry who lived sooo close to there and I tried and couldnt get a call through..I didnt talk to him till about three days later which seemed like 100 years but both Bry and his Grandmom were fine...well as good as they could be....I liked the way the world pulled together...wish we could always do that not just when tradgedy strikes.

What really irked me was when I heard people complaining about TV...about how the networks were just showing 911 coverage and not Tv shows...I have been watching the soap OLTL since 1984 and honestly hadnt given it any thought after all this happened....It just wasnt important but sooo many missed their shows...
