since CINDY is being MEAN, i've decided to start posting tonight.
k... here goes:

Jinny waited at the redlight impatiantly. She had hit every one since she left her house, and was already late for work. Leaning her elbow against the door, Jinny sighed. 'Finally!' she thought as the light turned green and she sped through the intersection.

Magda sat at her desk flipping through the catalog of things Ben was selling for school. She really hated these things, but she knew she had to buy something... and sell things too. All in all, Ben wasn't doing anything, she was. 'That's ok.' She thought smiling. 'I did it to my mom.'

CD Delorenzo and Angela Reide pulled into the mini mart. CD was dying for a cup of coffee before they had to be at the crime scene. She couldn't believe the rash of murders happening around the city. It almost seemed like they had a serial killer on their hands. Sighing, she opened her car door. Calling into the car she asked "Want anything?"

"No, I'm fine, thanks CD." 'To tell you the truth' thought Angela 'I couldn't stomach anything right now.' Wiping her head with her hand, she stared out the car window.

The phone rang in Captain Kate McCafferty's office. Picking up the reciever, she answered it with her usual "McCafferty."

"Yes... yes... ok... calm down ma'am." Kate quickly sat down at her computer and typed the information that the calling was giving her into the database. After about 10 minutes of soothing responses and critical questions the Captain the conversation ended.
Getting up from her desk, she walked over to her door.

Running into the Division, Jinny Exstead smiled at Magda apoligetically. Magda just looked at her with an amused expression.

"Loose your watch Jinny?" Magda chided and laughed.

Jinny looked at Magda. "Nooo... traffic." Jinny paused, then added "and I couldn't pants." Grinning, she sat down and glanced over at what Magda was looking at. "Ah.. school's selling stuff?"

"Yup. Always fun." Magda was about to say something else when Captain McCafferty came out of her office.

"Exstead, Ramirez, I have a case for you. It seems..." she said slowly "that a 15 year old girl ran away about 3 days ago and her parents have been trying to find her ever since."

"And you want us to find her?" Jinny asked.

The Captain looked at Jinny like she had just said the stupidest thing in the world. "YES. And... there's more. She's been in therapy. She's a suicide risk." The Captain glanced at Jinny, who didn't move a muscle. "We need to find her, got it?"

"Got it Cap." Magda grabbed her coat and moved towards the door. "Coming Jin?"

"Uh.... yeah." Jinny quickly grabbed her keys, and followed Magda out towards the parking lot.

thanks for all your comments! i work everyday, and the only reason my last one got finished so fast was because it was the weekend and stuff. k, here's more:

Jinny and Magda pulled up to their destination, a modest two story house with marroon shutters. Getting out of the car, Jinny looked out of the top of her sunglasses at it. It looked like a nice place to live.

Magda unbuckled her seatbelt and opened the door. Stepping out onto the sidewalk, she made sure she had her badge and then closed the door. "Well," she said, turning to Jinny, "here we are. Let's go see the parents."

Jinny and Magda walked up the front steps of the house onto the porch. Ringing to doorbell, Jinny got her badge ready to flash. When the door opened, a 30-something woman with short blonde hair greeted them. She looked a wreck, and Jinny could tell she had been crying.

"Hello Ma'am. I'm Jinny Exstead and this is my partner Magda Ramirez. We're with the SFPD." Jinny showed her badge and took of her sunglasses.

The woman managed a slight smile, as she opened the door wider. "Come in, come in" she said, motioning for the inspectors to enter the house.

Once Jinny was inside, she could feel both the love and the heartache that was in the house. The love, no doubt, was always there, but the heartache was recent, she sensed. "We have to ask you a few questions if you don't mind."

"Certainly" the woman replied. "And please, call me Anna."

"Ok Anna" Magda replied. "Can you tell us about when you last saw your daughter, Angel?"

"Well.. it was three days ago. She was going to school, like usual. She's been... depressed though, so she's actually been missing a lot of school." Anna paused and tears came to her eyes. "Then later on in the day I went up to her room and found a note saying she was leaving. I... I broke down. My... my baby left me...." Anna broke down in tears, but quickly tried to wipe them away with her hand. "I'm sorry... but she's my only child. It was pure luck that we were able to adopt her."

"She's adopted?" Jinny asked, writing the information down in her notebook.

"Yes. We... we told her a little over a month ago. Since then, well, she's been so upset and... she... tried to kill herself. I didn't know what to do!!" She looked into the inspector's eyes pleadingly, waiting for a response.

It was Magda who spoke up. "There really is nothing you can do but get her help, Anna, and you did that, correct?"

Anna smiled weakly. "Yes. She's been seeing a therapist regularly."

"Anna, can you think of any reason that Angel would WANT to run away? Maybe... she wanted to find her birthmother.. or something like that?" Jinny asked, looking uncomfortable.

"Oh, no. She's said many times that she hates her real mother... because she gave her away. I don't agree with her of course, circumstances happen. But... even if she did I don't know how she would... I can't even access her records. The mother had her name concealed and everything."

"Ok, Anna, that'll be all for now. We'll update you if we find anything else out." Magda said calmly, trying not to upset the woman. She felt so bad for her. She knew what it would feel like if Ben ever ran from her, and she didn't wish that feeling on anyone.

Walking into the station, Jinny and Magda didn't know where to go from there. The only thing they could think of was to post Angel's picture everywhere and hope they came up with a lead.

Captain McCafferty exited her office and went over to her two inspectors. "So... anything?"

"Nope. I mean... Angel is adopted, but that's about all..." Magda replied, sounding weary. She was upset that there really wasn't anywhere to go.

"Adopted, huh? Could she be..."

"We already asked that" Jinny stated. "Anna, the mother, said that Angel hates her birthmother... for giving her up."

"Still" the Captain started "There's a possibility that she might. Go check the agency."

"The mother's records are apparently concealed." Magda looked back up at the Captain.

"Not to us." Captain McCafferty smiled.

Magda raised her eyebrows at the Captain, then smiled back. There was a clause somewhere that stated they could access adoption records, but Magda had forgotten about it. "We're on it," she said, and turned to Jinny. "How about I go over to the adoption agency while you check out Angel's school? That way we'll save some time." Jinny nodded in agreement and they both grabbed their coats.

CD DeLorenzo and Angela Reide walked into the Division about an hour after both Jinny and Magda had left. Angela was shaking her head. "I can't believe he was so stupid... of all the things to do..."

"Yeah, well, all killers make mistakes eventually. Let's just be glad we caught him now and not later." CD pulled out her chair from her desk and sat down in it. "Hungry?"

"Starved" Angela practically yelled back.

Just then Magda came rushing into the division and went directly to the Captain's office. Knocking on the door, she asked "Can I come in?"

There was a muffled reply and Magda opened the door, shutting it behind her.

"I wonder what that was all about.." Angela said.

"Who knows. Let's order in. Chinese?"

"Yeah."

Kate looked up from her desk and wondered what had Magda in such a predicament. Motioning for her to sit down, she placed her glasses on her face. "What did you find out?"

Magda couldn't speak. All she did was hand Kate the folder that she was carrying. Taking the folder from Magda, Kate opened it up and skimmed the contents of the first page. Raising her eyebrows, she looked at Magda with a bewildered look.

Jinny: As for my brother, ugh... yeah, John... see, he just doesn't like you unless your American, white, and straight... and for me... a few weeks ago when uh... I had that nut case after me... yeah, I had to make a little list, of all the guys that I've slept with in the last two years. I couldn't remember some of their names.

Teddy: Stop.

ok all, after nearly being run over by a guy in a motor cycle and told by my doctor that i don't want to go to bars to pick people up (LONG story) i am here to write more of the fanfic:

"You verified this?" the captain asked, still shaking her head in disbelief.

Magda nodded her head. "I know what you're thinking. I was thinking the same thing too." Magda crossed her arms and started to pace the Captain's office. She didn't know what to do.

"Well, it looks like you might want to see what Jinny has to say about her search of the school, then put Angel's picture up and see if we get any responses." The captain closed the folder Magda had handed her and placed it on her desk. "If she's looking for her mother, we can probably find her."

Magda nodded again and went to the door, as she placed her hand on the knob, the captain spoke again.

"By the way, I've decided to take Jinny OFF the case and put CD on it with you, so if you could send CD in.."

"Sure Cap." Magda opened the door and walked over to CD's desk. After talking to her for a few seconds, CD got up and walked over to the Captain's door.

"What's up Cap.?" CD asked in her usual manner.

The Captain motioned for CD to close the door and sit down.

Jinny walked into the division, and saw Magda at her desk staring off into space. Wondering what was up, she sat on Mag'd desk and waved her hand in front of her face. "Hey Mag!"

Magda jumped, startled by Jinny's sudden appearance. She laughed at herself and smiled. "Any luck?"

"None. Her friends don't know where she is. The one even broke down crying in front of me saying if she lost Angel, life wouldn't be the same." Jinny frowned and moved back over to her desk. Picking up the black and white picture of Angel, she looked at it. "Flyer time?"

Just then CD came out of the Captain's office and walked over to Jinny. "Hey.. Cap. wants to see you."

Jinny rolled her eyes and gave Magda a look. Magda could only give her a weak smile back, and Jinny faltered a little bit. "What's going on?"

Magda looked at her partner, knowing that she was off the case, but also knowing that she couldn't tell her that. The captain would have to do that. Putting a better smile on her face, she replied "Nothing."

Jinny walked over to the Captain's office and knocked on the door when she walked in. "You wanted to see me?" Jinny glanced around the room and then back at her Captain. Kate had never liked her, and she was worried about what lecture she was about to get now.

"Close the door and sit down, Jinny." Jinny did was as told and the Captain continued. "I've decided..." she paused, not knowing how to proceed, "that I need you on another case. CD will be covering for you with Magda and you'll be working with Angela."

Jinny stared at the Captain with anger in her eyes. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. Magda was her partner, and this didn't make any sense. "May I ask why?" she asked, trying to keep her anger under check.

"If you insist." The Captain knew she was going to be asked why, and she was prepared. "This case... is high profile. I chose Magda and CD to work on it because they're good to the public eye and..."

"Wait... wait just a minute! I've handled plenty of high profile cases for you. Sure, I screwed one up, but damnit, Cap, I don't deserve this!!!" Jinny's anger boiled up to the surface and she got up from her chair.

Kate knew this was coming too, and sighed inwardly. "Jinny, I've made up my mind. You are NOT on this case, got it?

Jinny nodded, still too angry to say anything else.

"AND... you and Angela have a convienience store robbery to look into." The Captain motioned for Jinny to leave.

After standing there gaping at the Captain for a few seconds, Jinny turned on her heel and went out the door, slamming it behind her. When she looked up, everyone was staring at her. "WHAT?!" she asked, as she made her way to Angela's desk. "Let's go. We have a robbery to investigate."

Angela promptly got up from her desk. CD had told her what was going on, and she was ready for Jinny to be acting this way. On the way out, Magda mouthed 'good luck' to her, and she knew she'd need it.

"Okay sir.. now, you've changed your story.. we have two completely different accounts of what happened." Jinny looked at the man behind the counter of the Quickie Mart. He was older, balding, and smelled of bad aftershave. "First, you say that the suspect came in, got in line, and when he got up to the counter pulled the gun. THEN you said he came in waiving it. Oh.. and of course the color of the suspects hair changed as well. First it was brown, then blonde. What is it?" Jinny glared at the man.

Looking uncomfortable, the gentleman rung his hands together and looked at Angela. "I... I thought if I spiced things up a bit, it would seem more interesting and... heroic of me." He managed a weak smile.

"Heroic?!" Angela couldn't believe what she was hearing. Of all the stupid things to do, botching a police investigation was the worst. "And are you telling us the FIRST version of events was correct."

"Yes. Absolutely. I swear."

Jinny rolled her eyes and looked at Angela. "Ok sir, thank you. We'll be in touch." Turning away, Jinny started leaving the store. Her and Angela were by the door when she heard the man at the counter refusing to sell something to someone. Thinking it odd, she turned around.

Standing at the counter was a teenage girl with long dark hair. On the counter in front of her were many boxes of medications... too many for one person to need.

"Look, just... sell me it, ok?! It's not like I'm not going to pay for it!" She looked around apprehensively, and tapped her foot on the ground in a rhythm that only she understood.

The man shook his head again. "No can do little lady."

Jinny was stunned. Right in front of her stood Angel, the girl they had been looking for. Walking over to her, Jinny placed an arm on her shoulder, making Angel jump.

"Who... what??" Angel managed to sputter out.

"SFPD." Jinny replied, flashing her badge quickly.

Angel started to panic. She didn't mean to do anything wrong. All she wanted was the buy the medication, and now even the cops were on her case. "Look... I didn't think it was illegal to buy medicine..."

"It isn't" Jinny cut her off. "But your parents have been looking for you... and here I find you by chance encounter."

Angels eyes surged with something Jinny could not determine, and she started to cry. Looking up into Jinny's eyes, she needed to know the truth. "They are."

"Of course they are... why wouldn't they be?" Jinny sensed something was bothering the girl.

"Because... I'm adopted. I'm not really theirs, ya know..." Angel started to cry again.

Jinny reached for her cellphone and dialed Magda's extension. "Hey Mag. Yeah, I'm fine. Guess who I ran into? No, no. Better. Angel. Yes. Mag, I'm fine, why are you asking? Ok, yeah, I'll bring her in. Bye." Turning back to Angel, Jinny smiled. "Come on... let's get you back home, ok?"

"Ok." Angel smiled. Her parents, even though they were adopted ones, really did love her. I can't believe I ran away, she thought, but then she remembered why she did.

As though she were reading her thoughts, Jinny turned to Angel and asked "Why's you run away?"

Angel frowned, and placed her hands in her pockets. "I wanted to find my mom" she said, matter of fact. "I found out her last name and her first initial and that she lives in San Fran, but that's it. She's not listed in the phone book." Angel looked down. "But don't ask me how I found that stuff out."

Jinny smiled, she wasn't going to ask. Teenagers are sometimes pretty resourceful when they wanted to be. "Hey, maybe since you have the last name and first initial of your mom's name, we can help you find her."

Angel looked up and smiled. Taking one hand out of her pocket, she held a wrinkled piece of paper with a name on it. Handing it to Jinny, she said "This is it."

Jinny looked at the name on the piece of paper and nodded, biting her lip. "Yeah... I think we can help."

When Jinny, Angela, and Angel got to the station, Magda, CD, and the Captain were waiting for them. "Jinny, we're all going into my office. We'd like you to join us" the Captain said, then she smiled at Angel.

"Yeah, ok, be right there." Turning to Angel, who looked both hopeful and worn out, she pointed to her chair. "You can sit there while we're in the office, then we'll call your parents."

"Ok." Angel sat down in Jinny's chair as the three inspectors and the Captain walked off.

Closing the door behind her, Captain McCafferty looked at the three women in the office. "Jinny..." she started "We know who Angel's mother is."

"So do I." Jinny said, and smiled weakly. Pulling out the crumbled piece of paper, she handed it to the captain, who looked it over and nodded.

Angel sat spinning in Jinny's chair. Deciding she was dizzy enough, she then looked all over Jinny's desk for something interesting. When her eyes caught sight of Jinny's nameplate, her breathe caught in her throat. "Jinny Exstead" she said softly to herself, "J. Exstead." Angel's eyes welled up with tears. 'Could Jinny be my mother?' she thought.

Angel was wrenched out of her thought process when she heard the Captain's door open. Magda came out first and headed over to Angel letting her know that she was going to call her parents. Then the tall blonde came out and went to her desk. Next was Jinny. Angel didn't want Jinny to know that she knew, sp she pretended to be oblivious.

"Hey." Jinny said as she reached her desk. She looked at Angel. She's so beautiful , she thought, and held her hand up to her mouth. "Can we talk? There's something I have to tell you."

When they got into one of the interogation rooms, Jinny sat down with Angel on the opposite side of the table. Summoning all her courage, she spoke. "Angel. I... I'm your mother." The words tumbled out of her mouth and she could feel her eyes getting wet.

"I know." Angel said, matter-of-factly, looking down at the ground.

Jinny looked at Angel quizically. "But.. how?"

Angel managed to smile. "Your nameplate on your desk."

Jinny smiled and shook her head. She sometimes overlooked the obvious things, and this was one of them. Although, a part of her was glad Angel found out before right this instant.

Angel squirmed in her seat. "Can I ask you... why?" Angel started to tear up, and she wiped her face with her hand. "Why did you give me away?"

Jinny couldn't hold back the tears any longer, and she didn't try to wipe them away. "When I was 16..." she started.

"When I was 16..." Jinny started "I was a virgin." Jinny didn't know how to explain the next part... she didn't really want to, but she knew she had to all the same. "Then... about 6 months after my 16th birthday... well, see, John, my brother, had this friend. I'd known him for years.... since I was about 10... so he was like another brother to me..." Jinny started to cry some more, and she looked across the table at her daughter.

Angel didn't know what was coming next. She knew, however, that whatever it may be, it was killing Jinny to tell her. 'But she IS telling me' she thought.

"So one day, John and Robby... that was his name... were hanging out at my house and John left for a bit to go to the store and Robby was there alone with me." Jinny bit her lip as she remembered the day.

::flashback::
"Hey Jin-Jin, what's up?" Robby walked into Jinny's bedroom and flashed his smile. Walking over toward her bed, he looked at the sixteen year old with inquisitive eyes.

"Hey Robby." Jinny replied and smiled. "Nothing's up... just watching TV... same ole same ole." Jinny took a sip of her soda and glanced up at Robby.

"You should do something more exciting." Robby walked the rest of the way to Jinny's bed and sat next to her.

"Right. Like there's anything else to do in this house." Jinny took another sip of her soda and watched the tv.

Robby reached for the remote and switched the television off, causing Jinny to wheel around and hit him.

"Hey! Turn it back on!!!" Jinny playfully yelled back and she struggled to get the remote from Robby. Then Robby threw her hard down onto her bed. "Robby.... Robby.. what are you doing?!"

::end flashback::

"He... raped me. I didn't know what to do. I didn't tell anyone. Then I started to get sick... and..." Jinny broke down crying. Sobbing into her hands, she didn't even have the courage to look at Angel anymore.

Angel sat there with tears in her eyes. She wasn't wanted at all. She wasn't just a mistake... she was the product of a crime. Not knowing what to do, she just sat there, crying silently.

Jinny finally looked up and saw that Angel was crying too. Wiping her face with her sleeve, she asked "Hey... what's wrong? It's ok. I mean..."

"It's ok?!?!" Angel screamed. "I wasn't wanted at ALL... do you realize that?!!" Angel started to cry harder. She realized she was hurting Jinny, but she didn't know what else to do.

Jinny stared at Angel. She knew she was going through something rough. "Angel... you WERE wanted... otherwise I wouldn't have had you... and givin you away..." Jinny guaged Angel's reaction. Sensing that she should just continue, she did. "If I were older than 17 when I had you I wouldv'e kept you, but... I knew that I could never take care of you..."

Angel looked up from the table that she had been looking when Jinny was talking. She could sense that Jinny was sincere. "What..." she started, "What would you have named me?"

The question shocked Jinny, but she had an answer and she said it without hesitating. "Rebecca." Smiling, she looked at Angel, who smiled back.

Just then the door to the room opened and in stepped the Captain and Angel's parents. Running over towards her daughter, Anna hugged her and kissed her on the cheek. "Angel, honey, you're ok!!!" Then Anna turned to Jinny. "Thank you SO much for finding her... I don't know how to repay you..."

Jinny interupted her. "You don't. I'm glad I did."

Jinny: All right, fine. You want honesty? Why don't you let me tell you a little bit about my family? See, I never really never had a birthday party unless of course you wanna count my 15th, when my father showed up for cake, plastered in his underwear! Oh... yeah, by the way, my mom couldn't make it that year either because, well, sadly, six months earlier she BLEW HER BRAINS OUT!!!!!

Teddy:God, Jinny

Jinny: As for my brother, ugh... yeah, John... see, he just doesn't like you unless your American, white, and straight... and for me... a few weeks ago when uh... I had that nut case after me... yeah, I had to make a little list, of all the guys that I've slept with in the last two years. I couldn't remember some of their names.

Teddy: Stop.

Jinny: Ya know what? THIS IS WHO I AM, THIS IS MY FAMILY!!!! Come on, it's your turn. You go ahead, flash that all-American, prep school, choir boy smile and you tell me that it doesn't matter... it doesn't change anything... Yeah, that's what I thought!

***Three months later***

Jinny sat on her sofa in her living room reading a magazine and sipping on a drink of some sort. There is a knock at the door and Jinny sets down her drink and magazine. Walking to the door, she wonders who it could be. When she opened the door, she was surprised to see Anna, Angel's mother, standing there.

Anna had a smile on her face as Jinny opened the door. She didn't know how to thank Jinny for what she had done months before, but now she finally knew. "Can I come in?" she asked politely.

"Uh.. sure." Jinny smiled and let Anna into the room. Closing the door behind her, Jinny went over to Anna. "Do you want to sit down?"

"Thanks." Anna took a seat on the couch and looked around at her surroundings. It wasn't completely charming, but it was still okay. She smiled at Jinny again. "Jinny... the other day I was talking to Angel, and..."

Jinny felt uncomfortable. She didn't know if Anna knew she was Angel's mother or not, and she didn't know how to ask.

"and Angel told me that... well, that you're her mother." Anna sat, looking at Jinny for a reaction.

Jinny's eyes started to tear up, and she nodded her head. She didn't know what to do or say, so she just looked at the ground.

Anna noticed that Jinny looked uncomfortable. She took Jinny's hand and held it in her own, which made Jinny look up. Smiling, Anna sqeezed Jinny's hand. "I would... love it if you were a part of her life."

Jinny couldn't believe what she was hearing. She had always dreamed of this... always dreamed of the chance to be with her daughter, but she never thought that would happen. "Are... you sure?" she asked wearily, smiling slightly.

"Yes. Of course." Anna smiled back and reached into her purse. "She wrote you a letter... and of course you can visit." Anna handed Jinny the letter and stood up. "Well, I have to go to work.... and let you read that letter. I hope to see you soon."

Jinny looked at the letter in her hand and then back up at Anna. Getting up, she walked Anna over to the door and bid her goodbye. Closing the door, she walked back over to the couch and opened the letter. It read:

Jinny,
I hope that you're actually reading this. I've been wanting to write you since we met three months ago. I have a boyfriend now. His name is Sam. He's sweet, really. I'm doing better... not wanting to hurt myself anymore. Mom and dad are so grateful to you... for everything....

Jinny stopped reading to wipe a tear away and looked back down, reading more.

It's weird... I don't feel awkward writing to you like this because it's kind of like well, I don't know. You know, you're very pretty and I hope I look like you someday. I have questions though... are you married? If not, do you have a boyfriend? How long have you been a cop? Do I have any brothers or sisters? What about other relatives? I know, lots of questions, but I really want to get to know you... if that's ok with you, of course. Anyway, I don't know what else to write. I want to see you again... I guess I'll find out if you do too. Thank you Jinny, for everything.

Jinny looked at the name Angel signed the letter with and started to cry. "Of course I want to see you" she said outloud to no one, as she crawled up into a ball on the couch, clutching the letter.
