Mackenzie Phillips has been busted at LAX for allegedly possessing heroin and cocaine. She's in custody right now.

At 10:00 AM, officers responded to Terminal 4, where 48-year-old Phillips was being screened by TSA. During the screening process, some baggies and balloons believed to contain heroin and cocaine were recovered.

The former "One Day at a Time" star has had a long history of drug abuse.

What a damn shame, I am just stunned by this news.

That is awful to hear. I know she's been clean for so long, and even traveled for a while speaking at different schools about drug addiction. I met her once and she was such a sweet woman. I hope she's able to overcome this new addiction, however long it's been going on.

I thought the same thing. It seems suspicious to me. Who knows...maybe it was a cry for help and she wanted to be caught.

I was really sad when I read this earlier. She had been doing so well for years (at least it seemed that way.) I feel awful for her, and I hope she will be back on track soon. :(

I was really shocked and saddened to read this. :( MacKenzie has been doing so well for so long that I was shocked to read this. I hope that MacKenzie gets the help that she needs and has a quick recovery.

Actress Mackenzie Phillips has been released on $10,000 bail following her arrest for possession of a controlled substance on Wednesday.

Phillips, 48, was taken into custody in Los Angeles after she was caught in possession of heroin and cocaine at LAX Airport at 10 a.m. after she failed a routine security screening, prompting a secondary search.

According to Los Angeles Airport Police Sergeant Jim Holcomb: "A balloon and a plastic bag containing a small amount of heroin and cocaine" were recovered. Holcomb adds: "I was told initially she was a little uncooperative, but then she was fine."

The actress/singer - daughter of The Mamas & The Papas' rock legend John Phillips - has a long history of substance abuse. The One Day at a Time star - who has been in and out of rehab a reported eight times - was fired from the hit show twice over rising concerns of her drug abuse during the 1970s.

Very sad news to hear. I thought she had cleaned up her act and had her life together... :(

I heard on the radio this morning that she faces 2 felony charges for the heroin and cocaine possession, and 1 misdemeanor charge for the needle. They also said this his her 10th time in rehab. ohno: :(

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Former "One Day at Time" television star Mackenzie Phillips was charged on Wednesday with cocaine and heroin possession after being arrested last week while going through airport security.

Prosecutors in Los Angeles also charged Philips, 48, with unauthorized possession of a hypodermic needle or syringe. She is out on $10,000 bail awaiting a first court hearing in October.

Police arrested Phillips, eldest daughter of late Mamas & the Papas leader John Phillips, after she went through airport security screening at Los Angeles airport. Police said she had a "small amount" of drugs packaged in balloons and plastic bags.

Phillips starred as Julie Romano in the CBS comedy "One Day at a Time," which ran from 1975 to 1984. She battled drug addiction during her time on the sitcom and was later fired from the show after undergoing drug rehabilitation but then relapsing.

More recently, Phillips starred as a rock star mom in the Disney Channel series "So Weird."
