Thanks for letting us know - I was wondering when they were going to have it. They usually have it in May or June. I have quite a few questions I'd like to ask them.

I don't even know if I'll attend this chat this year. It's always the same standard repsones any-"it's on our radar", "we'll look into it" ; "we'll consider it". And of most of those they're "considering" or on their "radar" none have been released in the last year.

What confuses me most about them is how they released Season 1 of "Alice" on iTunes but have yet to release it on dvd. At this rate, the series will never see the light of day complete on dvd.

And then there's "Mama's Family"...'nuff said. I don't think I have purchased a Warner title since Season 1 of "Mama's Family" was released.

I'm not even sure what titles Warner own or can get their hands on. Isn't Eight Is Enough in their archives? I think for the last chat it was 'under their radar'. Yes well maybe they should put their radar away and get into the dvd pressing factory!

Everything seems to be under their radar. At the last chat, they said that Fresh Prince (season 5-6), Family Matters, Step by Step, and The Drew Carey Show season 2 along with more were all under the radar, but none have been released so far. I think at this chat, we really need to show Warner how let down we really are that they don't seem to care about these shows.

I had asked them about Eight Is Enough at the last chat and their response was "We'll consider it". They've been considering long enough. That's why I think I probably won't even go to the chat. It's a waste of time. They keep saying the same thing over and over and never release the shows asked about.

If you ask me WB is the worst studio out there right now for TV DVD. Worse even than Sony. At least with Sony they released some older shows, albeit with years wait in between. At least they give shows a second chance (ie. Barney Miller, The Patridge Family). Where is season 2 of Growing Pains? Where is season one of Alice? I could go on and on. And worst of all WB refuses to license anything out. Their older shows don't stand a chance on DVD.

Agreed that these chats are beyond worthless. They won't give a firm answer to anything and indeed, will never come through on things they are allegedly "considering".

With Fox showing signs of jumpstarting MTM next year, that makes Warner #1 for worst studio with TV on DVD this past year.

I still think Sony is #1 - they have way more abandoned shows on their list, and plenty of titles that they just don't care to release. While Warner is the same way, they have less properties and still manage to release or already have released a lot of their shows.

Sony though has released some thing this past year, and this has included a long-overdue second season of "Barney Miller", and S3 of "The Partridge Family" is coming out after a long hiatus. Plus, Sony I have to admit is more willing to release a short-lived series than any other studio I know of with the upcoming release of "Quark" because no way would that have been released by any of the other studios.

Just a reminder - the chat is tonight, starting at 8pm ET for those interested! I am interested in asking a question, mainly about their abandoned shows, so hopefully I can ask it then get out of there ASAP!-LOL

The link to "Go To Chat" keeps freezing my laptop.

Sad to hear there are no plans for Scarecrow & Mrs King.

Did anyone ask about Eight is Enough?

Is Small Wonder under their label?

Several people asked about Eight Is Enough. Apparently they have no plans due to "fixed costs". They went from last year saying they would consider it to this. The chat is a waste of time. WB shows don't stand much of a chance of getting onto DVD. I think they're the worst studio now when it coems to TV DVD (yes even worse then Sony).

Pretty sure Small Wonder belongs to Fox.

I disagree - I thought this was one of their most informative chats to date. I and a lot of other fans got great news. They plan on releasing more of Night Court, Whose Line is it Anyway?, Everwood, and Knot's Landing in 2009, along with a release for Moonlight, and possibly for New Adventures of Old Christine and Fresh Prince, which they've already addressed with the music rights.

But, there was also the usual expected news - no plans for more Murphy Brown, Growing Pains, What I Like About You, and other shows I can't think of at the moment. Also, no plans for Step by Step, and was Family Matters mentioned at all last night?

Overall, a great chat.

The parts about what's finally getting more sets vs. what's not planned pretty much laid out Warner's sales plan in crystal clear:

When [Title] Season 1 sells [X} copies, we release Season 2. Period. Whether it takes 4 months or 4 years.

You're right. I think it's absurb how high Warner sets their goals for certain shows to sell - obviously, some shows will sell more than others. Friends is going to sell more than Murphy Brown, yet you can pretty much guess that their goals sales goals are close to each other. IMO, if a studio makes money on a set, then that should be reason enough to release more seasons. Even if it isn't as much as they'd hoped for, if money is made, why stop?

What bothers me most is that if WB doesn't release it, there is zero chance someone else will. At least with other studios like Universal, they are willing to license their shows out. I know X amount of copies has to be sold to get season 2, but there X is just way too high.

Exactly - their reaching too high with some of these shows. Do they seriously think shows like Murphy Brown, The Drew Carey Show, and Growing Pains will sell the same number of sets as Friends???

And I don't get why they're still not releasing shows like Alice or Step by Step. Alice had what, 9 seasons? Why don't they seem interested in releasing it at all? And it seems to me like they're exaggerating the problems with getting Family Matters on DVD - if they were that motivated, it would have been taken care of already.

I agree. They had no problem releasing the TV Favorites of Alice. That is one show of theirs I DO want. I don't know why they can't just go for a season one release. What they said about Eight Is Enough makes no sense either. I do realize that they can't give specific answers, but if there is no planned release date than it's probably not even being considered. They said Perfect Strangers met sales expectations, but I'm sure we won't see season 2 for at least another year (if then). They are exaggerating, no doubt, because many shows mentioned don't really have music issues. If Family Matters season one theme is a problem, undoubtedly they can easily replace it with season two's theme. It's very aggravating.

I don't think anyone asked them about licensing, but it's a known fact that they won't license out. If I remember correctly someone asked something along the lines in the last chat- something to the effect that if they wouldn't release a show themselves if there were other options. WB's answer was a straight forward no.

Thanks TVFan for all your help thus far.

I'm just reading the news report on tvshowsondvd.com and cartoon-wise I really hope they do have news in 2009 for PawPaws, Pac Man and Plastic Man. Those 3 P's rate very highly in my retro cartoon must-haves, especially the PawPaws! Shame about the Biskitts as that would've rated very highly too.

No problem. I'd like to see Pac-Man too. Not much into the other ones. One cartoon I would love to see form them that I asked about last year was The Puppy's Lost/Further Adventures. It was part of the Scooby-Scrappy Doo Hour & starred Petey the puppy & his gang. I haven't seen it in years.

On a side note, as you had mentioned Small Wonder before, I wonder if there are other licensing issues. All information available points to the fact that Small Wonder is a Fox property, yet I once heard from Shout! that they tried to license it & couldn't get the rights (they didn't say exactly why and from whom). But Fox has been known to license stuff out, and hopefully is in the process of licenseing Mr Belvedere to Shout!. Either Fox does own Small Wonder and for whatever reason won't license it out, or someone else does. Just wanted to clarify. It would be nice for whoever owns it to release it or license it out.

I agree too. If they have no interest in releasing it, give it to someone who will. I would buy Alice in a heartbeat if it came out on dvd. But, I would want more than just Season 1. I'm not going to commit to buying another series until more seasons are released. I'm not getting into another show just to have the plug pulled again.

If Louis Armstrong's "It's a Wonderful World" is the problem with the Family Matters sets, I could care less about that - I'd rather listen to the seson 2 theme anyday over that one. It would be a nice feature to have that, but that is of little importance compared to getting the episodes onto DVD.

And Alice a show that's high on my list, too. Obviously, the "Best of" sales must have been low for them not even to consider it anymore. It's a very bad way of estimating sales for season sets, since most people don't even know the "TV Favorites" set even existed to begin with.

Yeah, it's been said many times before that Warner is not interested in licensing their shows out. They seem like a very cheap, money-hungry company to me. I know they're a big name in movies and television, but they set their standards to high for all their shows, and all they care about is money - fans don't seem important to them at all.

I'm also afraid of buying any season one sets of theirs because look at what's happenned with Murphey Brown, Welcome Back Kotter, Life Goes On, etc. etc. There's so many I can't even remember. Three years between Night Court seasons isn't acceptable. I already know what's going to happen-S2 isn't going to sell well because most people want to start at season 3.

I'm not sure if Alice TV favorites sold well or not-I remember reading somewhere that WB dropped the whole idea of Tv favorites after too many fans complained they wanted season 1's instead. I don't even remember seaosn 1 of Family Matters so I couldn't care less either about "Wonderful World".

I have a feeling WB is holding back a lot of plans for TV DVD's in favor of online or download distribution.

I am thankful that my all time favorite sitcom Gimme A Break is not WB (& also that I don't have to just depend on Universal or else I'd be screwed).

I think it's people that don't buy season sets until all of them are announced are out of their minds - it's that reason alone that subsequent seasons aren't released. If you don't buy a season 1 set, then the chances for a season 2 set are minimal. And it's been 4 and a half years (I believe) since season 1 of Night Court was released, which is even worse. But, instead of complaining, we should be thankful that season 2 is coming out.

I think the TV Favorite's sets that sold well are the ones that got a season release. Out of all the TV Favorites discs, The Drew Carey Show, Chico and the Man, and F-Troop are the ones that made it to season sets. Step by Step and Alice, that had TV Fav. releases, didn't make it to season sets, so they obviously must not have sold very well. I think the idea is completely absurd - how can they base sales off of a 6-episodes colletion that hardly anyone payed attentioned to?

Chico and the Man didn't make it to season sets. I wish it did. That's one of my favorite shows. "Cheyenne" was a best-of that made it to season sets. However, they seem to have abandoned it after one season.

Was there any word on "George Lopez"? Before I check out seasons one and two (for my whole watching shows I hate on DVD thread) I'd like to know if they have plans for a third season.

You're right - I meant Cheyenne, but wrote Chico for some reason.

I don't believe George Lopez was mentioned at all Monday night. You can probably put it in the "We're still evaluating it" category, which pretty much means "no chance in hell."

It's a catch 22. There are always those fans who won't buy until subsequent season are released. Personally if it's a show I really like I'd buy it regardless. It just angers me to have so many season 1's of shows & not be able to get season 2. I know if all fans didn't buy then sales would be lower. I don't know what the solution is. I guess you have to take a chance no matter what show it is because there's always a chance any show could have subsequent season stalled on DVD.
It's just that when it comes to WB releases I'm more hesitant now to buy if it's a show that's not a high favorite on my list.

Same here - I'll buy the DVD no matter what studio it's from, just because I'm anxious to own the show on DVD regardless. I think if studios would start with the final season of the show, then work their way up, it would show that they're commited to releasing the entire series, which would make fans buy it without being hesitant.

Three long years wait for Knots Landing, but I love WB for announcing Season 2 release! Yay! Now for the next 12, hopefully not 3 years between each season! Proves that with persistence and a great fan site, we were able to influence WB; they kept insisting that season 1 sales were sluggish but never promoted it.
