Waldo wasn't that bright, but he was a gentleman and treated Maxine like a lady. He didn't treat her like a sex object. I think any SMART woman would appreciate that. Waldo had a soft, kind heart and that's why Maxine went out with him for so long.

My point is that from watching the episode, it's revealed that she is just like waldo, "a person that no one took seriously during dating" which is why she SETTLED for Waldo because she was just like he was.

Actually, they still dated during his first two years of college and her last two years of High School, which would be season 6 and season 7. They broke up when Waldo moved to another town to go to some chef school.
