CBS/Paramount to release "The Lucy Show" in early 2009. I was left a message from Ken Ross head of CBS/Paramount Home Entertainment and he assure me that "The Lucy Show" would be a great follow-up to "I Love Lucy." There has been a delay due to the public domain episodes (30 to be exact), music cost and restoration cost, but we can see a release in early 2009. I do hope they release the series in season sets. I can't wait! "The Lucy Show" is a classic series that gets overlooked a lot because of the popularity of "I Love Lucy."
ethelmaepotter 07-25-2008, 01:29 AM My only concern is that CBS/Paramount has a reputation for "butchering" series it releases on DVD. Let's hope they don't do it with "The Lucy Show".
comedyfreak 07-25-2008, 03:44 AM Keep your fingers crossed, and your toes too. LOL.

Which shows?
I own I Love Lucy and The Brady Bunch, both complete--no butchering in these shows.

CBS/Paramount started out with great releases than fell apart and started editing out anything with a line of a song, etc.....Gomer Pyle, The Odd Couple, Happy Days 2 & 3 are full of edits plus many more hour drama releases were a mess.

Not to mention The Fugitive, Cheers, Laverne & Shirley and Bosom Buddies.
Jude The Obscure 07-27-2008, 07:46 PM I have Bosom Buddies season 1--I think I read some songs were cut out, but it doesn't bug me that much.
I just have L&S season 1--anything cut?

With Laverne & Shirley, I don't know if anything's cut out, other than the music edits beginning with season two.
As for Bosom Buddies, besides all the music edits, I've also heard that a couple scenes have been cut out. One involving the two guys in jail singing Yakety Yak with their jailmates.
treky 07-28-2008, 03:47 AM I thought I read on another site that season 1 of "THE FUGITIVE" is uncut-you mean it's not? :cuss: :cuss:
I know that with season 2, they replaced ALL-not some, butALL-of the background music; and a LOT of people are mad as HELL at them!!!!

FilmMaker781 10-02-2008, 11:15 PM Hi everyone...
"The Lucy Show" Season 1 is finally going to be getting an official release. Unfortunately, some of the music is going to be replaced just like "The Fugitive" and "Father Knows Best." For anyone who has any appreciation for classic television, please take a moment to politely share your feelings about this desecration of our television heritage by writing to CBS/Paramount. This general practice largely by CBS/Paramount and not as frequent for many of the other studios will not only affect "The Lucy Show" but all future vintage shows released by CBS/Paramount.
More information can be found at www.TheLucyShowDVD.com
It's not too late to make a difference as the "The Lucy Show" DVD set is slated for a release in late Spring of 2009. Thank you for your time and for writing in. Together we can make an impact!
Benno123 10-02-2008, 11:36 PM Where did this information about the music come from?
FilmMaker781 10-03-2008, 12:58 AM Where did this information about the music come from?
From a knowledgeable industry source who wishes to remain anonymous. But considering the recent releases from CBS/Par for "My Three Sons" and "The Fugitive," the idea of music replacement isn't too far fetched.
I just hope everyone...writes in to help change this before the set is actually released.
Lee G 10-11-2008, 06:15 PM If the 1st season DVD comes out, most likely I would buy it. I think The Lucy Show is funnier and overall better written than I Love Lucy.
Jude The Obscure 10-11-2008, 08:45 PM While I hope nothing major music wise affects the Lucy Show release, I loved the show for Lucy and Viv, not for the music. The first three years are my faves and like Lee, I often prefer to watch TLS.
Benno123 10-13-2008, 02:56 PM The first season of TLS was magical, with shows as classic - and in cases even more so - than ILL. Once show went to color in the second season (being filmed, not broadcast) there were still some good shows. By the time the show moved its location to California it was still fun, but never the same as it was with Viv. But I do have to disagree with the statement that the show was better written than ILL. Just my opinion ....
As for the music being cut, the only thing I can think of that could be cut from the first season could be when Lucy and Viv sing "Big Girls Don't Cry." As for the music in the show itself - theme, background, "bumper music" - I don't see that being cut.
Jude The Obscure 10-17-2008, 10:39 PM It may not be cut, but substituted with cheaply done synthesizer fare.
But as I said before, the music is not why I love the show! :D

Oh No! I hope they don't cut that. It's one of the funniest moments of Season 1. The little dance Lucy and Viv do is hysterical. Please don't cut that scene out!!! ohno:
Benno123 10-22-2008, 05:29 PM I don't know if "Big Girls Don't Cry" would be something that would get cut, but since that is a song with a license fee, it's very hard telling what the final decision would be.

There's also Papa-Oom-Mow-Mow and one other song in "Lucy and Viv Put Up a TV Antenna," and a couple songs in "Lucy's Barbershop Quartet." And quite a bit of music in "Lucy, the Music Lover," though some of the music in that episode may be public domain by now. Perhaps the violin music in "No More Double Dates"? And isn't there some John Philip Sousa music in "Lucy, the Soda Jerk"?
ethelmaepotter 03-22-2009, 11:56 AM There are no plans to release "The Lucy Show"before December 2009. So, expect spring 2010 at the earliest.

I'm not doubting you, I am just curious what your source of this info is.
Robert 13 03-23-2009, 11:59 AM I would like to know too. It was supposed to be announced by now for a Spring 2009 release. What has happened to this show? They haven't done a thing to carry over sales from "I Love Lucy" to "The Lucy Show" and believe me, there are fans waiting for the first season to be released.
Jude The Obscure 03-23-2009, 01:13 PM The first season has been transferred to HD. This is from the CBS Distribution Bible website. So that is GOOD news.
Benno123 03-23-2009, 02:59 PM Thanks, Jude! I just looked up the website (never been to that site before!) and saw that The Lucy Show info was updated on 2/12/09 --- great news indeed!
Jude The Obscure 03-23-2009, 09:19 PM Yep, from the website itself:
This series has been partially transferred into HD and has the following masters:
Network 4x3 HD (Season 1, episodes 1 - 31)
CJ800 03-26-2009, 06:39 PM The Lucy Show season 1 will be out this July.
Benno123 03-26-2009, 07:53 PM The Lucy Show season 1 will be out this July.
Not quite. The story from tvshowsondvd.com stressed that it is possible for a late July/early August release but nothing is carved into stone at this time. The article said they were eyeballing this time, but nothing at this time is certain.
I imagine that CBS wants to take advantage of the Lucy product they have to compete with the Here's Lucy releases.

CJ800 03-27-2009, 10:47 AM Im sooooooo glad Lucy Show season 1 will be out this July.
Its about time too!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jude The Obscure 03-27-2009, 11:56 AM I don't know if compete is the right word, but feed off each other is more like it. They know hardcore fans will be in stores for HL, so why not get TLS out there too and take advantage of those who will more than likely pick it up at the same time.
sigmapi30 03-28-2009, 06:36 PM I really hope they bust these dvd's out quickly....and that it leads to the release of Life With Lucy. I have plans to buy all, even the specials that are coming out!!
