View Full Version : What reason was there for choosing Davey Jones for the episode
Ireneparalegal 07-17-2008, 01:38 PM where Marcia is fan club president of his fan club and have him make an appearance? Out of all the teen hearthrobs available, was he the only one they could get? Was it merely a plug for his song "Girl" which was the opening song for the movie, "Star Spangled Girl" starring Sandy Duncan? Having grown up in that era, I was kinda taken aback as to why he was chosen.
Lodee 07-17-2008, 01:50 PM Maybe they let Maureen have a say and that's who she wanted. I always kind of wondered why they picked Desi Arnaz Jr for that other episode too. Who knows, huh?
Ireneparalegal 07-17-2008, 04:26 PM Desi at that time was a hearthrob, had appeared on his mother's sitcom, and was being seen around tinseltown, dating celebs and whatnot. Somewhat like Hollywood royalty. But Davey???
Mikado 07-17-2008, 04:58 PM Well, I think Davey was more popular with the teeny-boppers (Who were the BB's bread-and-butter fans) at the time, than Arnaz, who would have been more popular with older teens
Ireneparalegal 07-17-2008, 05:11 PM But Mikado, Desi did appear in an early episode of BB, which made him a hearthrob for a young Marcia, whereas Davey was the fave for an older Marcia. Which would make sense since it would seem Marcia was watching the Monkees when she grew up.
Mikado 07-17-2008, 05:59 PM ah.......ok......I guess she was just fickle then!
PrettyinPink55 07-17-2008, 06:49 PM Totally off topic, but this episode is one of my favorites!! :D
Mikado 07-17-2008, 07:04 PM HI Pink!!! been awhile!!

This is probably one of my least favorite episodes. A few years ago, I heard
or read that Maureen, aka Marcia, was NOT a Davey Jones fan in real life.
One time, TV Land counted how many times the name Davey Jones was
mentioned in this episode, and if memory serves me right, it is over 30 times!
VERY annoying.

  I remember that!! It was one of the special Pop Up Video episodes they had of The Brady Bunch. That, The Johnny Bravo episode, and a few others were featured as Pop Up Video episodes. Those were fun!!!
I love how Davey made an appearance in The Brady Bunch Movie to parallel the storyline in the actual TV show, and how none of the kids knew who he was, but all the moms were going crazy!! I love that movie in general...one of the few TV shows made into movies done right!!!
Lodee 07-17-2008, 10:19 PM And then once you know it was said that many times you notice it more! At least I do.
I kind of like those pop up video episodes. They come up with some interesting tidbits sometimes.
Ireneparalegal 07-17-2008, 10:26 PM I always hated the bubble sounds of those Pop Video episodes. Irritating beyond belief.
I don't know what was worse, Davey or that damn sound.
Jude The Obscure 07-17-2008, 10:29 PM "hey there, Davey Baby! Why don't you play something on your geeee-tar?"

I believe it was either Bobby or Peter at the end of the episode making fun of Marcia.
Jude The Obscure 07-17-2008, 10:34 PM Peter! :)
Lodee 07-17-2008, 10:40 PM Thanks you guys. For some reason I don't remember that at all. I remember Marcia in that freakin poncho though.
Ireneparalegal 07-17-2008, 10:41 PM Poncho...
Hey now, I had one since I am from that era. ;)
Lodee 07-17-2008, 10:42 PM Yeah, me too!
Ireneparalegal 07-17-2008, 10:52 PM Alrighty folks, hope this song doesn't get stuck in your head
Girl, look what you've done to me,
Me, and my whole world,
Girl, you brought the sun to me,
With your smile, you did it girl,
I'm telling you girl, something unknown to me,
Makes you what you are,
and what you are is all I could ask for me,
and its good to feel that way girl.
Thank you girl, for making the morning brighter
girl for making the night time nicer
girl for making a better world for me.
I'm telling you girl, something unknown to me,
Makes you what you are,
and what you are is all I could ask for me,
and its good to feel that way girl.
Thank you girl, for making the morning brighter
girl for making the night time nicer
girl for making a better world for me.
Thankyou girl, for making the winter warmer
Girl, for making the music softer,
Girl, for making a better world for me
Thank you girl, for making the morning brighter
girl for making the night time nicer (fades off here)
girl for making a better world for me.

That's true. In Barry Williams' book Growing Up Brady according to Maureen "there were no sparks ... no sparks." (Chapter 14, "Guess Who's Guesting", page 79)
Torgo 08-13-2008, 12:10 AM "What reason was there for choosing Davey Jones for the episode"
Peter Tork wasn't available.
