View Full Version : Changes From Season To Season
Wreckless 07-04-2008, 03:04 AM Post the minor and significant character/plot, anything different from one season to the next in TFP...I'll start with some of the changes from the 1st to 2nd season..
-Uncle Phil's Appearence/Beard- Early on in the show's beginning, Uncle Phil had a mustache and not much of a beard, and his beard became way more noticeable towards the end of S1/into S2
-The Kitchen/House Shots- In the first season, most shots I believe were shot in the dining room/sitting room and the kitchen was positioned different compared to other seasons
Obviously the departure of Janet Hubert Whitten and the arrival of Daphne Maxwell Reid as the role of "Vivian Banks." mother to Hilary, Carlton and Ashley Banks. From the 2nd to the 3rd Will's paternal grandfather was written out of the show for some reason. Also, didn't the actress who played Mrs. Furth, Henry's wife, die after the 1st or in between the 1st and the 2nd or was she in an episode in the 2nd season also?
Post other changes...
PGood97041 07-05-2008, 11:49 PM After the fourth season, Nicky is suddenly on the scene
And also after the fourth season, Ashley, how shall I put this, has blossomed into a beautiful young woman, and she gets a more important role.
There's a double episode surrounding her singing when she has the hit record and another double episode about her modeling
Furienna 07-06-2008, 10:43 PM From the 2nd to the 3rd Will's paternal grandfather was written out of the show for some reason.
That wasn't Will's grandfather. It was uncle Phil's father.
Wreckless 07-07-2008, 01:48 AM It was still Will's grandfather. Uncle Phil's mother is Will's grandmother so why isn't his father Will's grandfather? I know Will came from Vivian's side of the family, but you still have 4 grandparents. Anyways...
Furienna 07-07-2008, 01:53 AM Will called them "Grandma" and "Grandpa", but no, it wasn't his grandparents.
PrettyinPink55 07-07-2008, 10:54 AM The disappearance of Lisa!
Wreckless 07-07-2008, 10:09 PM Will called them "Grandma" and "Grandpa", but no, it wasn't his grandparents.
Calling somebody grandma and grandpa is basically the same thing as calling them grandmom and grandpop. Then who were they then, Will's aunt and uncle?  They were his grandparents.
And yeah Lisa disappearing was hilarious lol. I guess being her and Will were half brother and sister, it got alittle weird. I didn't like her as much as other fans did, she wasn't bad, just not my fav. I guess.
waichingliu81 07-13-2008, 01:43 PM The disappearance of Lisa!
i was wondering about that too. the writers just wrote her out without any explanation or reason for her absence in the last remaining episodes of the last season. very strange indeed
waichingliu81 07-13-2008, 01:45 PM hilary's hair- it was of shoulder length and curly but later on, it became more straight and long

Maybe the actress, Nia Long, suddenly wanted to quit or couldn't get along with the rest of the cast? I guess they thought we would forget about her. But fat chance of that happening, especially when the show went into something called syndication.

It would've at least been cool to have mentioned it as an after thought in the final season, or to see Will and Lisa trying to work at a platonic relationship after being half brother and sister lol. I don't think they mentioned Will's mother at all in the last season.
It was like Lisa never existed, but the show did invest a lot of time in her relationship with Will, so I thought it would've been fair to at least have some closure. I wasn't a big Lisa fan either to tell you the truth. I liked Will best single lol.
Wreckless 07-13-2008, 11:15 PM I think the appearence of small characters was shown more in the first 2 seasons, especially in the first compared to mostly the primary cast being around in the final seasons. For example, in the Thanksgiving episode, they show the gardener and the mother gives him the day/weekend off for Thanksgiving. Will had a lot more little flings with girls then in later seasons (with Jackie and Lisa being around). One specific small fling was Kayla, you only saw her in the one episode. Another example was that you saw more of the Furths as a small character in the first 2 seasons, obviously with the wife's death, she wasn't around after the 2nd, but you didn't see much of Henry later on either.
Wreckless 07-13-2008, 11:17 PM The only minute characters I can remember off the top from the last 2 seasons was the shooter who shot Will in Bullets over Bel-Air, Geoffrey's son from England and any cameos from famous people (William Shatner in Eye Tooth).
PrettyinPink55 07-13-2008, 11:54 PM I didn't know about Mrs. Furth. She passed after the second season? :(
Wreckless 07-14-2008, 12:02 AM Yup, nobody can find out why though. It is not reported on Wikipedia nor IMDB I believe.

Actually, they didn't become half-siblings, but they became step-siblings. They were related through marriage, not blood. So it wouldn't really have been wrong, if they had continued their relationship, even if it might have been more awkward than before. They were together before their parents were together anyway.
But I so agree that it was weird to end the Lisa thing just like that, since she had been Will's steady girlfriend, and later even his fiancée, for almost an entire season. As I said earlier, I suspect there was something going on with actress Nia Long, so she couldn't continue the role. That would at least explain it.
I liked Will with Lisa though. When he was single, both before Lisa and after Lisa, he was immature and almost even unpleasant at times. But when he was with Lisa and really commited himself to one girl, he matured and became a much more pleasant character.

Hmmm... I would never have thought about that myself, but I think you're on to something... I wouldn't compare the gardener to Kayla or the Furths though. The gardener was only in one scene in one episode, while Kayla had an entire episode centered around her, and the Furths had scenes in many different episodes.
The only minute characters I can remember off the top from the last 2 seasons was the shooter who shot Will in Bullets over Bel-Air, Geoffrey's son from England and any cameos from famous people (William Shatner in Eye Tooth).
That shooter hardly counts either. He only was in one scene in one episode. Geoffrey's son sure counts though.

Yeah the shooter doesn't count at all, I don't know why I put him in their. And I know, I wasn't really combining the 3, I was just saying how overall, their were a lot more small characters used in the first two seasons, which I liked.
Furienna 07-15-2008, 07:27 AM Okay. :)
TracknField_Rebel 07-20-2008, 06:02 PM the one writing about the Grandparents....they are not Will´s Grandparent´s...threy treated him like he was....but he wasnt....They were Phil´s parents...and Phil was his uncle...The parents of Your in-law uncle are not Your grandparents....Vivan´s parents...who are of course Y´s Parents....are his grandparent´s....but not Phil´s
Furienna 07-20-2008, 06:10 PM Excactly! :)
Wreckless 07-21-2008, 02:18 PM My mistake on that.
Speaking of the grandparents. Phil had some bad stuff to say to will about Vivians father. which would of been Will's Grandfather. and dint stick up for him or get mad that his uncle was insulting his grandfather.
never got that. but what ever
im new btw
Wreckless 08-15-2008, 01:04 AM Haus, what episode is that? I don't remember the family or anybody on the show every discussing Vivian's parents, as a whole or individually. Come to think of it, It's kind of awkward that they weren't mentioned. Almost like Norma Arnold's parents were out of the picture for the most part on The Wonder Years. By the way, welcome to the boards!
Furienna 08-15-2008, 08:44 AM It believe it was the episode, where Hilary wants to pose for "Playboy". Uncle Phil didn't want her to, and he said a daughter should obey her father. And then, aunt Viv said "In that case, I wouldn't have married you". And then, she said her father hadn't liked Phil's family or his temper. That was the only time, that anyone discussed aunt Viv's (and Will's mother's) father. And since Will wasn't around then, he couldn't have defended his grandfather, even if he had wanted to.
when phil and will were out back on the patio he was discussing lisas father i believe and he said the only thing vivians father did to make the sitsuation better. will asked what was that. and phil said he died.
not exactly shore but i know he said something like that
Wreckless 08-15-2008, 05:02 PM ^ Yeah I remember the Playboy episode vividly, It was on N@N last night too matter of fact. And I sort of remember the scene you are describing Haus.
the episode i was talking about was on the other night. when phil meets lisa's father.
MrRetro_08 08-27-2008, 10:44 AM Yup, nobody can find out why though. It is not reported on Wikipedia nor IMDB I believe. (About the actresses who died)
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0131986/
Wreckless 08-27-2008, 02:14 PM Oh you mean Helen Page Camp aka Mrs. Furth? Yeah It's kinda weird...
Furienna 08-27-2008, 02:30 PM I guess she was such a minor character anyway, that no one bothered to mention it.
Wreckless 08-27-2008, 02:40 PM Nah that's messed up- she was minor in one show so we shouldn't care how she died? Not that you specifically said that but I liked her in the 3 episodes I believe she was in (Not With My Pig You Don't, Mistaken Identity and the pilot episode). I thought it was funny when she messed up what Carlton tried to say to her in the M.I. episode, when their were all watching football while Will and Carlton were in jail lol.
