SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Sadie and Pyper Vance have had just about enough of high gas prices. The sisters are still years away from being old enough to drive, but that doesn't mean the $4 per gallon price tag isn't hitting them as hard as anyone else.

Cable TV was one of the family's budget-cutting casualties, leaving Sadie, 9, and her 7-year-old sister without their favorite cartoons and shows.

"Gas prices are too high," Sadie said. "I just decided to come and protest so they'd go down."

The girls marched through downtown Monday chanting and carrying signs made from old campaign signs.

"All of my mom's monny goes to the gas tank!" Pyper's sign read. Sadie carried a sign asking drivers to honk to lower gas prices — adding that her mom had to cut "cabel."

The girls got some waves and a few thumbs-up to show support.

"I think it's great," said Hamid Tayeb, who was walking past on his lunch break. "It's unfortunate that kids are doing it before we do."

I'm sure there's familys out there that are not getting meat with their meals because of high gas prices. Sad thing about it is i see things getting worse before it gets better, if it ever does.

I agree with all of you!! Good for the kids taking a stand - though in the long run, I doubt it'll do any good.

Good going, kids. Like the guy in the article said, it's unfortunate that kids are protesting before adults are...

Am I the only one who sees this as sort of selfish? I mean, kids protesting because mom had to drop cable?

Protesting gas prices is fine...but do it because you can't afford food or rent or a car to get to work, which I know kids don't do, but still.

It was inventive though, I'll give them that. And at least they know why they're losing cable.

Seems sort of selfish to me too...but I guess they're kids and there is decent stuff to watch on the kids channels. The rest of it is garbage mostly. I didn't care when we dropped it, we weren't even watching it anymore.

I dunno. They're kids, so I don't hold it against them that the stunt's a tiny bit childish.

I like the fact that at least they're trying to doing something constructive instead of pitching a tantrum. Here's a thought: maybe they should do a lemonade stand &/or cookie sale and have a big sign WHY they're trying to raise $. I hope they get some GOOD publicity and that some cable co. gives the family a break. If done from the rt. angle, it could be good publicity. Or maybe one of the shows they love. Good be good publicity for them too if done deftly.

Those kids should protest the HIGH PRICE OF CABLE AS WELL.

I lived through the gas shortage in the 70's but tv was FREE back then.

The oil companies vs. the cable companies - who do you root for there?   They're all crooks.

You can lower your cable bill by not getting any Premiums channels-lol Try it, it helped me get a monthly bill that is $57.24

I thought you had the NBA channels and paid over $200 something a month?

I don't get any cable channels like HBO or Showtime anymore. I get STARZ/ENCORE which is free (included with my premium package).

I just remember when TV was FREE. No such thing as cable companies. And tv actually had GREAT PROGRAMMING not a bunch of reality junk.

if it were adults who were doing this protest, it would likely be selfish and immature of them, but these are just children, i don't hold it against them. they don't understand that tv is not a necessity and the oil companies don't give a sh_t that they're missing their shows.

That's only from November to February. But this year I will try to pay the $200 up front so my bill can remain $57.24

Hey, I didn't have cable when I was a kid. Then again, there was no such thing as cable back then!!:D

I guess I should admire them for protesting this but they should just be glad that the high gas prices don't cut into the families's food budget or worst yet, their electricity is turned off.

They're just kids, so they probably don't understand how what they were doing could be perceived as selfish. I think it is kind of a cute story...everyone is affected in different ways by increasing gas prices and I think it is kind of cute to see if from a child's perspective. Their parents should look into Embarq's new bundle package with home phone service, high-speed Internet, DISH network and TV. If you look, there are really some good deals to be found. I know I certainly wouldn't want to have kids at home all summer long without the relief of the TV to entertain them! haha!
