View Full Version : Robin & Barry Gibb Plot Comeback
Brian Damage 06-25-2008, 08:27 PM The surviving Bee Gees are eyeing a return to the stage - five years after the death of their brother and band mate Maurice Gibb. Gibb passed away in 2003 at the age of 53 after suffering complications from a twisted intestine - and his death devastated his two siblings Robin and Barry.
The pair only played one show together after their brother died, preferring instead to focus on their solo work.
But now Robin has admitted that the emotional wounds are slowly healing and they are now preparing to make a comeback as a duo.
However, he admits they are likely to stick to their decision to retire the Bee Gees name out of respect for their late brother.
He says, "We decided that on an emotional level at that point. Whether or not that will change, we don't know. It's a personal thing and we'll do it when the time is right. So it's not a no, it's just emotionally when it's right."

catlover79 06-26-2008, 09:26 AM It'll be great to hear more new music from Barry and Robin. :clap Maybe SNL can do that talk show skit again!!
Nighthawk76 06-26-2008, 01:21 PM I would love to see Barry and Robin make more music together. However, I think they should do it under a different name than the Bee Gees with respect to Maurice. I think when Maurice died, the Bee Gees died with him.
However, new music from Barry and Robin would be great. Especially considering that the Bee Gees final album, 2001's This Is Where I Came In, featured some of the best music they ever wrote. I think they still have some amazing songs in them.

Do you like the Bee Gees, Jack? I think you're of a similar age to me and I've been a fan since I was 12. I remember being very upset when Maurice died; he was a very sweet, friendly guy. To be honest, they all seemed to be very kind people. And of course, that's their younger brother Andy in my avatar.
Unfortunately they're somewhat stereotyped as "just a 70s disco band" (if I hear one more person call them that I might scream.) This group released their first single in 1963! And people call them "just a 70s disco band." And they continued making albums up to 2001. I love their disco songs, but they were so much more than just a disco group.

Yeah, it's a shame that they are often stereotyped as a "disco band". Even during their disco period they wrote and recorded more than disco music like "How Deep Is Your Love", "Too Much Heaven", "Love So Right" and "Fanny (Be Tender With My Love)".

Uh How Deep Is Your Love was in Saturday Night Fever LOL, so its a disco song, to me at least

A lot of people say this, Jack, but I just can't imagine how anyone can consider "How Deep Is Your Love" to be disco. For a song to be disco it has to be a certain beats per minute, which this song isn't.

I usually can't stomach Justin Timberlake, but he and Jimmy Fallon were hilarious as "Robin" and "Barry", respectively.
phoebe7165 06-26-2008, 09:11 PM Yay!! And I hope they tour. They're one group I've always wanted to see live, even if it's only with Barry & Robin now.

I didn't know there were different levels of disco, Jack.

There's fast makes ya wanna dance disco, slow disco, and Gender bending disco

Me, too!! I've always wanted to see the Bee Gees in concert, and if Barry and Robin came to the Cleveland area to perform, I'd definitely make the effort to see them.
Nighthawk76 06-27-2008, 02:19 PM If Barry and Robin do reunite, sadly they will probably not do a large scale tour. Barry has back problems that would prevent a full scale tour. If they did tour, it would probably be along the lines of the "One Night Only" tour they performed in 1997 where they played a couple of really big cities. Phoebe and Monika, I would hightly recommend the 1998 CD and DVD One Night Only. It is a really good chronicle of the brothers live. :)
catlover79 06-27-2008, 04:01 PM Oh, I have the One Night Only DVD. It is a keeper.

Mike, I already have One Night Only, too, but thanks!! I love the tribute they do for Andy.

It is. I agree. There are actually a few songs on the DVD that are not on the CD. "Too Much Heaven", is on the DVD, isn't it? It's not on the CD. It's a shame because that is my favorite none-Saturday Night Fever Bee Gees song.

The tribute to Andy is nice. I actually perfer Andy's version of "(Our Love) Don't Throw It All Away" over the shortened version that the Bee Gees put out on their 1979 Greatest album.
