View Full Version : Let's Honor Stupidity, list the things you thought were STUPID about this show
TVFactFan 06-20-2008, 01:21 PM For me the top stupid things were
Wanda's Crying
Sweet daddy's outfits
J.J's hat
Gurdy eating pet food and giving her friends real food
James not going to a interview because the bus was taking too long
catlover79 06-20-2008, 01:56 PM The plot about Keith BREAKING HIS LEG TRIPPING OVER JJ. If they were by a stairwell and Keith fell down the stairs, THEN I could buy him breaking his leg. That was the stupidest plot EVER on Good Times.
Which hat of JJ's are you talking about, Sol? I would laugh at Wanda crying, but it did get old after awhile.
Ireneparalegal 06-20-2008, 02:23 PM J.J.'s hat must have been a popular thing in the 70's ( I can't recall) because after watching the movie CLAUDINE the other night, Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs was wearing a white t-shirt and a blue cap, just like J.J's. He looked like J.J. while wearing those two things in a kitchen scene. I was like, "Hey, it's J.J."

I want to see Claudine so bad
Ireneparalegal 06-20-2008, 06:19 PM I want to see Claudine so bad
It is a great movie. I never get tired of watching it.
catlover79 06-20-2008, 10:33 PM It is a great movie. I never get tired of watching it.
Diahann Carroll's the star of Claudine, right?
CWDogg 06-21-2008, 01:48 AM JJ turning white in a dream
JJ delivering chicken with a chicken on his head
JJ delivering ribs with a cow on his head
JJ delivering ribs and chicken in the projects and never being robbed
JJ continually eating Thelma's cooking
Thelma getting engaged to a man who looks just like her uncle
Florida making James return $29,000
Willona's career track
catlover79 06-21-2008, 11:32 AM ^ All those are hilarious. :brent I'd forgetten about JJ's "white" dream. So true.
Ireneparalegal 06-21-2008, 05:49 PM Diahann Carroll's the star of Claudine, right?
Yes it is. It is a great movie that I highly recommend. ;)
PrettyinPink55 06-21-2008, 05:56 PM I liked the white dream episode!!!

Willona's career track
All of these are so true.:D Willona was head buyer how many times? Yet she stayed broke!
The Judy Cohen story.
A friend in need.
Let's just say season 4.:bouncers
catlover79 06-24-2008, 11:30 AM ^ Oh my goodness - how did Irene and I forget the Judith Cohen episode?? That is easily my least favorite of all the GT episodes. Pure pain!!!
70s show watcher 07-03-2008, 03:42 AM florida whining about james getting that great job in alaska
catlover79 07-24-2008, 01:53 PM Willona getting so easily taken in by her ex-husband was very out of character (and stupid). Thankfully, she came to her senses by the end of the episode and gave Ray a much-deserved right hook!!!! :D
KurtfromPitts 07-25-2008, 01:55 PM James telling J.J. that whatever involved J.J. HIMSELF wasn't any of J.J.'s [!] business.
Brian Damage 07-25-2008, 04:57 PM Solomon, what the heck was wrong with Sweet Daddy's outfits? He was a MACK!
Ireneparalegal 07-25-2008, 05:32 PM ^^I wanted to ask that question but I know I'd get a silly response.
TVFactFan 07-25-2008, 08:57 PM Solomon, what the heck was wrong with Sweet Daddy's outfits? He was a MACK!
They were too FLAMBOYANT
Ireneparalegal 07-25-2008, 09:16 PM They were too FLAMBOYANT
Excuse me, he was a PIMP!
TVFactFan 07-25-2008, 09:22 PM Excuse me, he was a PIMP!
Some of them was a bit much, like the PINK HAT
Ireneparalegal 07-25-2008, 09:33 PM OMG Solomon, you have obviously not seen any documentaries on HBO or any other cable channel that aired segments abt pimps in America. Oh man... some of the outfits they wear, make Sweet Daddy look like he is going to a funeral. Solomon, that is how the pimps looked and dressed back then.
Doesn't look like they have changed much  The last pic is a pimp in his custom-made coffin:
catlover79 07-28-2008, 04:07 PM ^ Irene, where did you get those pics?? I think Sweet Daddy was casual compared to these guys.
Ireneparalegal 07-28-2008, 04:18 PM I found them while searching the internet under the Pimp and Ho stuff. Seriously, I seen a documentary abt pimps in America. I believe it was on HBO. They also have an annual Pimp and Ho Ball. SERIOUS! NOT KIDDING YOU AT ALL. They give out awards  This documentary showed various pimps and how they dress, why they became pimps, etc. It was interesting, let me tell you.

Ireneparalegal 07-28-2008, 09:42 PM Oh my goodness...
You are right. Sweet Daddy's outfits DO NOT COMPARE to these guys' outfits. And I couldn't post some of the other pics I found because of the females in the pics and how they were dressed. Or lack thereof.
For me the top stupid things were
Wanda's Crying
Sweet daddy's outfits
J.J's hat
Gurdy eating pet food and giving her friends real food
James not going to a interview because the bus was taking too long
I did not understand Gurdy eating pet food, because I feel if you can afford pet food, wouldn't you be able to afford a can of tuna, or any other "no frills" brand of can foods.
TVFactFan 10-07-2008, 07:54 PM I did not understand Gurdy eating pet food, because I feel if you can afford pet food, wouldn't you be able to afford a can of tuna, or any other "no frills" brand of can foods.
Exactly-lol I mean she had the option of cereal, tuna, can goods, BREAD,
This storyline was very ODD, thanks for pointing that out
Don Howard 10-14-2008, 08:59 AM Moses Gunn as Carl Dixon.
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY overacted.
Wasn't Raymond St. Jacques available?
Janice Johnson 12-01-2008, 06:28 PM OMG Solomon, you have obviously not seen any documentaries on HBO or any other cable channel that aired segments abt pimps in America. WOOOOOOOOW!
James going along with Thelma wanting to marry a 42 year old man. He was against it, but for me, I would have thrown than man out of the house after a few minutes.

James going along with Thelma wanting to marry a 42 year old man. He was against it, but for me, I would have thrown than man out of the house after a few minutes.
Especially a 42-year-old man who looks just like your mother's brother (remember Lou Gossett played both roles)?
magellan333 12-07-2008, 11:28 PM I thought I'd chime in.
-Black Jesus bringing all that luck and never being seen again.
-James ditching the interview and saying he fired the company first.
-Willona's apartment looking all modern with wood paneling in the projects.
-A hamm radio in the apartment. Where did they mount the antenna?
-Florida not wanting to do a high paying commercial because it wasn't "honest". She was hired as an actress, not for a testimonial.
-Bookman not realizing he had just bought the car back.
-Keith having zero job skills, did he get drafted into the NFL right out of high school?
catlover79 12-08-2008, 01:23 PM ^ Keith went to college - he mentioned that he'd been up for the Heisman trophy.
angel66 12-08-2008, 05:08 PM That was not a ham radio, it was a CB radio. They don't neccessarily require large antennas. My grandfather had one during the CB craze of the '70's and it had no special antenna. Also about Keith's lack of job skills, on one episode he mentioned that all he was taught or expected to do was to play football, with no stress on academics or other skills.
bandito 12-08-2008, 09:18 PM Florida always wearing the color orange.. Damn, does that lady own any clothes that are not orange?

I never noticed it in the apartment again after that episode. Was there a scene where Michael got rid of it?
magellan333 12-08-2008, 10:59 PM Florida always wearing the color orange.. Damn, does that lady own any clothes that are not orange?
The Evans were poor and must not have had many clothes. Florida had only orange clothes, James had only a gold colored shirt and JJ had only a purpley/pink turtleneck.

All the money in the family's clothing budget must have gone to Thelma!!
kittymom 02-04-2009, 01:38 PM All of season 6 was just stupid, I thought
ThomasE 02-04-2009, 01:52 PM All of season 6 was just stupid, I thought
I loved season six. To me, it was better than season five.
jenjen 03-03-2009, 03:52 PM Let's see...Thelma and Michael's PSA announcments written into every script. "Alcoholism is the number one killer of teenagers today..."Hypertension is the number one killer of black people"
Thelma's whining...she was a beautiful young lady and very smart but MAN could that girl whine!!!
JJ...PERIOD..enough said...
Willona and her popping in with her comments...
I agree about the Keith falling over JJ thing...that was beyond dumb!!!
The Penny story was totally unrealistic... I grew up in a NYC project single people got one bedroom. I could be mistaken but did Penny have her own room?
Thelma getting engaged every season
catlover79 03-03-2009, 03:59 PM I loved season six. To me, it was better than season five.
Same here! :D
Glowingcrayons 09-03-2009, 02:55 PM JJ turning white in a dream

Thelma getting engaged to a man who looks just like her uncle
Florida making James return $29,000
Willona's career track
If here cooking was that bad it would be hard for even poorest family to eat it. http://glowingcrayons.com/Vinyl_bean_bags.html
SageSlowdive 06-10-2010, 06:58 PM The whole Judy Collins ripoff/JJ wanna be a music producer storyline
The entire character of Keith.
TVFactFan 06-12-2010, 02:18 PM The whole Judy Collins ripoff/JJ wanna be a music producer storyline
The entire character of Keith.
Thank you for the information, I never knew who the Judy Cohen character was trying to portray when I watched the episode.
I just listen to Judy Collins versions of Send in the Clowns and I like Judy Cohen's version a lot better because Collins version had more of a COUNTRY TONE to it.
mimi75042 07-12-2010, 12:02 AM The Evans were poor and must not have had many clothes. Florida had only orange clothes, James had only a gold colored shirt and JJ had only a purpley/pink turtleneck.
And michael always wore that multi-colored pattern shirt that looks like multiple cuts of pattern were sown together. They always seemed to wear the same clothes.. :rotflmao:
