With all the sitcoms that have appeared on TV Land, it boggles the mind that Ozzie and Harriet never had a regular run on that network.

It would have been great to have it on a few years back, but not now. TV Land just butchers all the old shows now and so much would be lost if they did show it. I would rather it on DVD's. TV Land has just about disentergrated completely all the 50's and 60's shows in the past three years.
Shows ran between 26 and 28 minutes and they would cut it to 22 minutes to get in all their commercials. That's a good 4 to 6 minutes of lost show.

TV Land doesn't care anything about classic shows--it is just burning off contracts at this point. Once the current contracts expire, don't ever expect to see evergreens like Lucy or Andy or Beav on the network anymore!

Don't get me started on TV Land. I'd tell you what a low opinion I have of them but my opinion of them isn't that high.

O&H had two national cable runs, In the early 80's it ran on Superstation WTBS weekdays at 4:35PM eastern, in 1985 it ran on "The Disney Channel" weeknights at 11:00PM eastern. TV Land is garbage, so don't bother getting your mind boggled by them.

Thanks everyone, I never realized such strong opinions about TV Land were held by so many people. i also enjoy collecting episodes on DVD and would like to know if anyone has episodes with out-takes at the end? If you know of any please supply the title so I can add to my collection. Thanks again.

TVLand is a mess. They need to go back and read their "mission statement" (If they have one) from the 1990s. Also, they need to look at some tapes of how good they were back then, say around 1998.

Remember the back to back stuff they did in the morning (they called it Twice as Nice)? 2 episodes of My Three Sons, 2 episodes of Petticoat Junction, and others. Even with shows that might not be your favorite, you could still have it on and be entertained while doing something else.

I don't agree they will dump all the Beavs, Lucys etc, though. I think what they have left of good shows, do well for them. Also note on Beav and AGS they have gone to the trouble of redoing all the end credits of these shows. Much as I miss the themes, I'd say they would not go to all that trouble and then dump them.

"Twice as nice", I loved when they did that and when they ran full episode weekends. I don't think they will ever get rid of Beaver and Andy because these two shows are what keeps them going. I think they will try to stop Lucy when the contract ends and it will hurt them big time. They keep trying all sorts of shows, but nothing is working. They've lost the audience that made them and think they can capture the younger audence, not going to happen.

Janine, try an Amazon search, they have many of the old Ozzie and Harriet shows. There was one older set of 80 episodes, I believe, that was terrible and more than half the shows wouldn't play. Just read the reviews and you can figure out which one it was.

If my logic holds on redoing end credits, they WILL drop Lucy.

As much as I dislike their so-called original programming, it must be doing well for them.

But they shuffle programming around so much, you never know when anything is going to be on. Even TV Guide (the cable and DVD recorder version) can't keep up with it...

Like I said before, they're a mess.

When DVD's won't play, the first thing to try is cleaning them. This may sound obvious, but I didn't try it for awhile, but when I did, it worked sometimes.

For anyone starting out the best choice is "The Essential Ozzie & Harriet Collection" by Mill Creek Entertainment....a 12 disc 100 episode collection for under $20...nothing beats it! and of course the official shout sets, the second being released in july.

Lucy BTW, moves to Hallmark in January 2009, folks.

You can agree to disagree with me, but TV Land is moving AWAY from classic programming. As reality continues to draw bigger ratings for them and more movie blocks are added, you will see a channel that is a shadow of its former great self!

It will be interesting to see how fans, are there many left, of TV Land react when Lucy is gone. Their format keeops changing, they keep shuffling the "good" shows so much you can't find them, I really don't know how much longer they can survive. If they ever take away Andy Grifith, they're doomed for sure.

This is the set I got from Amazon they was terrible: The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet Box Set (1952) 490 minutes. There are about three reviews that say about the same as I do, it just doesn't play well. There are about 8 radio broadcasts that are good though. I tried playing it in three different DVD players and none showed any different, so it had to be the DVD itself. I messed around and never sent it back for a refund as I should have.

I totally agree the 12 DVD Mill Creek Set is just fantastic for the price. Hope they come out with more.

I agree to agree. Very astute observation! And we may be seeing signs that WGN America is going to fill the void...

I would love to see Mill Creek come out with yet another 100 episode collection-which begs the question--how many of these episodes were never part of the syndication package Oz originally put out?

My cable doesn't carry WGN America, so I miss out on that channel as well as AmericanLifeTV. I do have an RTN afflilate, but most of what it airs doesn't personally appeal to me.

I'm a little embarrassed to say I don't have cable...but since I have an analog TV I guess I'm going to have to get it soon (at least by Feb '09)

TVLAND is such a disappointment.

It's the same few shows over and over and over. And now they are into their own reality shows UGH! And movies that they play over and over and over.

They had a Golden Age of TV Weekend morning block for a few months a few years ago. Had Father Knows Best, Burns and Allen, Donna Reed and another show I can't remember now. It was really nice to see those old shows actually getting some play. After a couple months the whole thing fizzled out.

I also remember anticipating TVLands Christmas Marathon every year. I'd get out my video tape and be ready to catch any new Christmas episodes to air.
We would leave the channel on TV LAND all day Christmas and let the Chrsitmas episodes play catchin' this and that.
They'd even show Christmas shows from a few shows that they didn't regularly air.
Now their Chrstmas marathon is a big old bust. a couple episodes on a Friday night, a few hours on Christmas itself. I don't even bother anymore. I pop in the old tapes from their good marathons.

They show all these movies now. I thought it was TVLAND not Movie Land?
I never did understand why they never aired TV reunion Movies. You'd think that would be right up their alley. I liked when they used to show odd type TV things like old shows that flopped. I forget what they called it, but it would be stuff that only had like 6 shows in the whole series.

Yes, TV Land is in a very sad state. I remember when we built our house almost 10 years ago, we were moving from the city [cable] into the country and were going to have to have a dish. TV Land was not carried by the cable company we had in town, so I was sooooo excited that we would soon be receiving TV Land with our dish. Back then, My Three Sons, Petticoat Junction, etc, were all on there. I bought our dish, with anticipation, in the summer and we did not even move in until Thanksgiving, LOL.

And ILUVO&H, it is funny that you mentioned the Christmas Merry-Thons. I am in the process of organizing my collection and I also collect Christmas episodes. I just came across the actual pages I printed off their website from TV Land's Merry-Thon schedules for those awesome years when they showed tons of Christmas shows. I am in the process of trying to get all those Christmas tapes transferred to DVD.

So sad that TV Land and NIK have both gone by the wayside. I am hoping that the Chicago ME TV and Me Too will be picked up by Dish TV one day.

I can dream, can't I?

Does anyone her get the RTN channel? It's only in two cities in my state. There programming has many old shows I'd love to watch. I've emailed my cable company and the network so I hope one day we will get this channel. I think my daughter gets it on Dish sattelite in IL, but she's not interested in old shows like I am.

I have it, Honeybea. If there is something on there, you would like, let me know. I can maybe work out a deal for ya! Of course, every RTN station programs according to its needs--there is no national RTN schedule.

They had a block of programming on Sun. morning which included these shows, plus Hazel. This was when they had a contract which included a few episodes of several old Screen Gems shows. The block was called Better Living Through Television.

They also had a really good feature on Sunday afternoons called TVLand Box Sets. They had varying episodes of old shows, many times shown on a one time basis.

To think of where they are now. Just a bunch of nothing, repeated over and over. Sad.

The short-lived shows were spotlighted in a block called "The Wonders of TV Land". By the time my cable got the channel, they had mostly discontinued that block.

Thanks! I may take you up on that offer. I need to check their schedule again and see what showing. I didn't know the programming was differnt according to the area.

my affiliate is KDCG 22 (Opelousas-Lafayette). I get it via cable channel 10.

Their schedule emphasis is more on crime dramas than sitcoms--Matlock, Rockford Files, Hawaii 5-0, Magnum, Streets of San Francisco, Simon and Simon, Knight Rider, A-Team, It Takes a Thief, Wild Wild West. They do show Love American Style, Family Ties, Happy Days, Get Smart and Gomer Pyle USMC
