Emmy voting has already started so I thought it would be fun to discuss nomination chances for Back to You as series and its cast.

There’s no official news yet as to which episodes have been submitted for the series.

Pros

1. Emmy voters love big comebacks! Patty and Kelsey are considered Emmy darlings. Both have won a combined 7 statuettes and garnered many nominations in the past.
2. Patty, Kelsey and Fred are among television’s finest comedic actors
3. Ty Burrell was considered by many fans as the breakthrough performer of the year
4. The whole creative group behind BTY has a long established record of emmy winning projects

Cons

1. Well, the show got cancelled, unfortunately. That may have hurt its chances to be considered for a nomination. In the past, actors of cancelled shows have been nominated but a cancelled show has never been nominated (as far as I know, anyway!))
2. Patty Heaton’s political activism may have unfairly hurt her chances for a nomination more so than Grammer’s. I would LOVE it if Emmy voters would prove me wrong here.

Well, I'm sure you know what I think - Back to You definitely deserves an Emmy in someway! Even if it was for best lighting or constume wardrobe, if it can get a nomination, that may be another chance for the show to come back.

I think Josh Gad should get nominated as Best Supporting Actor for "Something's Up There," just because I still have that immage in my head of him with the raccoon. yeah, as much as we think it deserves a nomination, I'm sure every NBC sitcom will end up being nominated, for some reason. The show was the funniest show to hit television in years, at least we know the truth.

Exactly! Everything is hype. All these comedies are popular but not neccessarily the best. I personally think that dramedies like Desperate Housewives and Pushing Daisies should not be allowed to run in the same category as half hour comedies. This year they will be including also the annimated shows - "Family Guy" will be competing in the same category. It's gonna be very tough!!

I have to agree there. I don't think it will get any recognition - such a shame.

Or, maybe we'll all be suprised and Back to You will get a nomination. Is it likely? No, but still, with this show, you never know.

I totally agree with you. Without getting politcal about this it just seems one party wants free speech but condones it for others. It is America, we should be aloud to speak. It just seems moraly wrong to be a republican these days. Not all republicans are Bush fans.

I can't stand that - to me, every single NBC sitcom is boring and unwatchable. I don't get what evryone obssesses over The Office for - I just don't find it funny. And what's the deal with 30 Rock? That show is so overrated by critics.

Back to You not only got better ratings, but it was better across the board. At least you can laugh at Back to You.

The Office and 30 Rock have become for some reason the 'it' shows for the 'intellectual' audiences. I sincerely think that some people watch them just because 'the cool' crowd is watching them or just pretend to watch and love them because they want to be part of that crowd. I am not a regular viewer so I can't judge the shows. And I think Tina Fey is the most overrated actress on television. She's a great writer but I don't see this incredible acting craft some critics are raving about.

Couldn't agree more with you. Both shows are completely overrated. I don't see anything funny or even watchable about either shows. 30 Rock can barely manage 5 million (kind of like Til Death), yet gets nominated over and over and over. The audience size doesn't reflect the quality of the show. Also, 30 Rock averaged 6.4 million this season, not "barely 5 million." Back to You was a good show and that only averaged around 6.5 million viewers for the whole season. And I mean Back To You is great and all but 30 Rock is FAR FAR funnier. Single-camera comedy is the future and it's time to face that as a fact. I mean how many times can you see fat guy-hot wife, married couple with a kooky neighbour or "We're a group of friends and our writers want the 25 million viewers a week than Friends was getting 5-10 years ago"? And btw, if you look at the highest-rated multi-cam (Two and a Half Men) and the highest rated single-cam (The Office/Samantha Who?) i'm sure you'll agree the single-cam's are funnier. Two and a Half Men, now that's an overrated show.
The only multi-cam I can stand to watch since BTY ended is The Big Bang Theory and I might have a look at Do Not Disturb in the fall.

Samantha Who barely managed to get 6 million viewers when it aired without Dancing with the Stars. You want to talk overrated!!!!! It would completely bomb if it didn't have that secure spot. ABC knows it that why they pulled it immediately and paired it with Dancing again. Still it can't hold on to its lead numbers the way it used to in the first episodes. IMO Jean Smart is the only good thing that happened to that show, I'm sorry. As far as Men is concerned, I agree that show is a nightmare of obscene & cheap jokes.

The bottom line is you can't say single camera sitcoms are funnier than multicamera or vice-versa, because that depends on personal taste and quality of the show. Personally I've laughed more watching Brothers & Sisters this season than Samantha Who or (The office or even 30 rock) , and that's a drama :crazy: .

These are different times. Viewing habits have changed, television has changed.The strike has done some incredible damage to the television industry and it's unlikey it will ever recover. You can't compare ratings of the shows of today with Friends. Sorry, that's not fair and has nothing to do with multi or single cameras.

I just rewatched all 14 episodes of Back to You and if I compare it to the first season of ELR or Friends I see the similarities of a great show in the making. Too bad they didn't give it a chance to grow.

It's probably why sitcoms are dying. Some people think that single camera comedies are the future and their's no proof of that. 30 Rock is a mediocre hit. MNIE, the only one of those I really like has not been a major hit. The Office does its best when it airs for an hour. It finishes 3rd in its time slot though every week. NBC is happy with them because the critics like them and although they finish third for the night, it is still their best night of programming. My how NBC has fallen since the days of Friends and Seinfeld. Caroline in the City and Suddenly Susan had more viewers than these shows. Lets talk about ABC...they've been trying to find a single comedy hit and have yet to do it. Samantha Who is not a hit... Not until it can stand on its own. I'd be surprised if it survived next season. Why do you think ACTJ keeps coming back? It's all they got. I'll admit aside from a couple CBS comedies the multi comedy format is not in any better shape but to say that the single camera format is the future just tells me that sitcoms are going to continue to struggle. Half the country don't care much for them.

I don't want to make Pavan angry-LOL, but yeah, ABC is calling Samantha Who? the highest rated sitcom of the season, which is so not true in more than 1 way. Men still holds the title of highest rated sitcom, and like we've already pointed out, SW can't hold it's leadin that well and cannot do well with DWTS. When it was airing in the winter without it, it was managing the same, if not lower, numbers than Back to You was during the fall. It's nowhere near a hit sitcom, and like Sonny said, I wouldn't be surprised to see it cancelled next season.

Now back to Back to You (no pun intended :D ), the show was one that seemed promising, and if you go back to the fall, it was slowing climbing in the ratings until the strike hit it. I believe it's last prestrike episode got around 7.6 million viewers, which was great. But the strike hit it, and when the show came back, it was managing a little lower than that, but all 4 of its 5 post-strike episodes managed over 7 million viewers, which is more than NBC can say for its sitcoms.

Some of the best all time TV sitcoms were multi-camera use, MASH, Frasier, Cheers, Friends, Senfield, Roseanne, All in the Family, etc. These shows lasted many years, they must have doing something right.

Exactly. Not many single camera shows have gone on to be huge hits in the last 50 years or so. The only one that comes to mind is The Wonder Years, and that wasn't exactly a sitcom. It just goes to show that multi-camera shows have always been more successful, even though we are seeing more of them today.
