View Full Version : I Love Lucy leaving TV Land PattiB 05-26-2008, 11:28 PM Record any shows you want. TV land says the contract for I Love Lucy is up the end of this year and it'll be gone. TV Land has been moving in a different direction for a while. Jude The Obscure 05-26-2008, 11:36 PM The show is moving to Hallmark come January 2009. Besides, with the entire series out on DVD, I don't have to depend on TV Land (or any other channel) to give me my Lucy fix! :) Mr. Television 05-26-2008, 11:39 PM TV Land sucks anyway anymore. Without Lucy all the shows from the 50s will soon be a distant memory. Ireneparalegal 05-26-2008, 11:41 PM I have my boxset so it doesn't affect me. I also have two local channels that air enough Lucy repeats that what TVland does or doesn't do, does not affect me at all. I feel for those who can't afford DVD's and don't get Lucy on any other channel. Jude The Obscure 05-26-2008, 11:58 PM For the same price as cable, you get at least 2 DVD sets a month, if you really want it bad enough :) Besides, with cable going further and further into the deep recesses of "reality" TV, one is better off investing in DVDs so you can watch what you want at any time! :D ethelmaepotter 05-27-2008, 12:16 AM TV Land has been going down the toilet for some time now. They need to change the name of their network to reflect the MAJOR changes in their programming. I am a huge fan of Lucy and I gladly paid the $175 to buy the entire series on DVD awhile back. Many classic shows are being eclipsed now by these horrific reality shows that some pimply-faced 20-something TV executive conjures up. It is worth the investment because the way television is going, Lucy could be a thing of the past. Can you find "The Lucy Show" or "Here's Lucy" anywhere these days? Expect the same fate for "I Love Lucy" in the not far off future.:( Scoobiedoo30 05-27-2008, 01:37 AM I hope that That The Hallmark Channel gives I Love Lucy a good Time Period InspectorExstead 05-27-2008, 01:48 AM i haven't seen i love lucy on tvland for a while. it used to be on many times throughout the day, but i haven't seen it on for a long time. it's okay though, because i've got the dvds & fox has been playing i love lucy at a regular time since i was little & in elementary school! lol. but i'll keep an eye out for the show when it comes to hallmark. comedyfreak 05-28-2008, 12:50 AM I'm so glad I have the entire set including the Desilu comedy hour. Lodee 05-28-2008, 05:43 PM TV Land has been going down the toilet for some time now. They need to change the name of their network to reflect the MAJOR changes in their programming. Expect the same fate for "I Love Lucy" in the not far off future.:( I can't believe reality TV is still so popular! I can remember watching the very first Survivor way way back and thinking reality shows were just going to be a phase. Who knew? As for the Lucy Show and Here's Lucy, I don't think I've seen an episode of either of those on TV since I was a kid. I've got some on tape, but I'm sure there are loads of episodes I've never even seen. InspectorExstead 05-28-2008, 06:20 PM i saw a commercial on tvland yesterday for a reality show! it's pretty much america's next top model, but with women who are over 35. reality shows do not belong on tvland! Jude The Obscure 05-28-2008, 06:33 PM The channel is really not TV Land anymore and I heard rumors of a name change coming soon Ireneparalegal 05-28-2008, 06:56 PM The channel is really not TV Land anymore and I heard rumors of a name change coming soon It should be REALITYLAND or CRAPLAND. :snob: desilu #1 05-29-2008, 10:02 AM Nutz to TV Land I have seasons 1-4 on DVD, the full episodes!! I will soon get the other seasons. Bill S. 05-29-2008, 11:21 PM As far as I'm concerned, TV Land may as well go off the air entirely. It's bad enough channels that are supposed to be music channels play nothing but reality shows, but a station that's supposed to be the home of classic TV shows? What's next, is AMC gonna start showing new movies? And to think I was actually excited when my cable company started offering TV Land for free... It should be REALITYLAND or CRAPLAND. :snob:  I can think of some better ones, but I'm not trying to get banned! ;) Ireneparalegal 05-29-2008, 11:29 PM  I can think of some better ones, but I'm not trying to get banned! ;) That is why I stuck with those names instead. I can think of several myself that would describe CRAPland a whole lot better. ;) Jude The Obscure 05-29-2008, 11:31 PM As Ralphie in "A Christmas Story" would say....."oh Fuuuuuuuuuuudddddddddggggge" Benno123 05-30-2008, 07:36 PM Lucy is better off leaving TV Land. Anymore that networks stinks so bad I have to spray my TV down with Fabreeze. An 80s Guy 05-30-2008, 08:04 PM I've got all of the DVD's and I have Hallmark Channel so it doesn't affect me.I feel TV Land isn't worthy of having it on its channel.I wish my cable company would replace TV Land with the I Channel because I still don't have it. Ireneparalegal 05-30-2008, 09:38 PM Lucy is better off leaving TV Land. Anymore that networks stinks so bad I have to spray my TV down with Fabreeze. Haunted_Armoire 05-30-2008, 10:35 PM TV GLAND is the worst network on TV. It's shameful that "I Love Lucy" ended up there in the first place. Ever notice how much dialogue they chop outta the show? It's DISGUSTING. Hey TV LAND----> :yousuck: PrettyinPink55 06-05-2008, 02:42 AM This is really horrible news!! :( I watch "I Love Lucy" everyday on TVLand, especially on the weekends when they have that long block on Saturday and Sunday mornings!!! :( Glad it'll be on Hallmark though...there should be at least one station airing "I Love Lucy!!" Loopie63 06-24-2008, 12:17 PM Nertz to TVland. They have really sunk low with putting a reality show on there. I watched Tvland to escape reality for awhile. Now i can't even go there. :( OH Nuts! 06-27-2008, 08:34 AM Bad judgment on TV Land? What a surprise. Nix on cable. Just give me my beloved DVDs so I can see what I want N-E-TIME. Steverino 07-02-2008, 06:24 PM Bill- AMC has sucked for almost 10 years now, ever since they started showing commercials and THEIR idea of classic movies (Porky's 4). It's ALLLL about $$$$$$. Thank God TCM is still commercial free(dont hold your breath). Does anyone know of a contact email address to complain to TVLand? Haunted_Armoire 07-03-2008, 01:24 PM Practically all websites have contact us . mrs.gingerhinkley 07-04-2008, 02:35 PM Can't say I'm surprised, but this is just a ridiculously stupid move on their part. Oh well, we don't need TVLand anyway! Tweety 07-05-2008, 07:26 AM I can't believe reality TV is still so popular! Boy, you and me both! I remember first hearing about "Survivor", I guess it was based on some show of that kind in Australia, and when I heard it was coming to the USA, I remember thinking "that'll last about a half a season". But yeah, who knew that Americans who grew up watching good TV would start watching that crap, and then not be able to turn it off? I can't believe the number of people that I know who watch shows like that, people who I otherwise have a great deal of respect for! In "Seinfeld" when Jerry and George were pitching their Pilot show about "nothing" to NBC President Russell Dalrymple, he asks JS and GC "Why would anyone watch a show about nothing?" , to which George replied "Because it's on TV" They had the American public nailed with that line. People will watch ANYTHING, as long as it's on TV... they'd never think of spending 10 minutes following Anna Nichole Smith or Farrah Fawcett around, but let a camera follow them around, and the American people are right there in front of their TVs. I've asked people who watch these shows what the appeal is, and the only thing they ever say is, "it's interesting". Why it's so "interesting", they can't say. Tweety 07-05-2008, 07:29 AM ...Glad it'll be on Hallmark though...there should be at least one station airing "I Love Lucy!!" Yeah, "I Love Lucy" has pretty much been on continuously since it went into syndication. Figures it would be TV Land that would try to end the streak* ... but I'm glad Hallmark is picking it up. (* - I know I Love Lucy is on other local channels besides TV Land, but you know what I mean) Haunted_Armoire 07-05-2008, 10:01 PM I can't believe the number of people that I know who watch shows like that, people who I otherwise have a great deal of respect for! . I don't think watching reality shows should be a reason to respect or disrespect people. I think we all need to escape from real life for a while. Whether it's watching "Surviver" or "The Kardashians" it's better than taking drugs. There are people who may think people who post on message boards are wasting their time. ;) In any case we have the freedom in this country to watch what we want to and comment on it. This board would not exist without these freedoms. And when you think about it "I Love Lucy" was an original "Reality show". Remember how Lucy wanted to do the show to have "home movies" for her children? Tweety 07-05-2008, 11:05 PM ...There are people who may think people who post on message boards are wasting their time. ;) They, of course, would be wrong! ...In any case we have the freedom in this country to watch what we want to and comment on it... Exactly...if people like those shows, fine! I don't happen to see the appeal, that's all. And I underestimated (by a long shot!) the lasting appeal that these kind of shows have in the U.S.A. ...And when you think about it "I Love Lucy" was an original "Reality show". Remember how Lucy wanted to do the show to have "home movies" for her children? I did hear that at some point... but I Love Lucy was obviously done to entertain people, and it was more than just a home movie for the kids... if Lucy and Desi wanted home movies, all they had to do was shoot home movies. I Love Lucy has stood the test of time and has been on TV continuously for nearly 60 (!) years ... My only point is, compare the shelf life of "I Love Lucy", "Leave it to Beaver", etc, to the shelf life of the first season of "Survivor". Will even a fan of "Survivor" watch, for example, the first season of that show continuously for the next 60 years? That's doubtful.... How about the next 10 years? Five years? I don't know how many times I've seen individual episodes of "I Love Lucy", but I've been watching it since the late 1960s, which means I've probably seen some episodes at least 30-40 times or more... and it's still great.... how many times can a fan of Survivor watch the first season? I'm sure it's out on DVD. I've been trying to figure out the appeal of shows like that, but even people who watch it can't explain it. And what in the world is "real" about seeing how people will interact if they're suddenly stranded and pitted against each other on a tropical island? At least that Anna Nicole Smith show was actually 'real' (albeit boring as hell) because it followed A.N. Smith around (oh joy, what better way to spend one's evening). And I understand that "shelf life" isn't the point of reality shows...the idea is to put a cheap show on TV that people will watch, and then get the DVD out ASAP so that people will buy it just to have it... and hopefully before they realize that they've bought a show about nothing. Haunted_Armoire 07-05-2008, 11:25 PM I Love Lucy has stood the test of time and has been on TV continuously for nearly 60 (!) years ... My only point is, compare the shelf life of "I Love Lucy", "Leave it to Beaver", etc, to the shelf life of the first season of "Survivor". Well obviously no I can't do that! The only true "reality show" in that mix is "Survivor". I am not out to compare sitcoms and reality shows although reality shows are more often scripted better THAN sitcoms. I know the difference between classic sitcoms and reality shows. My point about Lucy and her desire to make "I Love Lucy" some home movies for her kids has to interpreted very loosely on what she felt they did the show for. She wanted memories about the birth of Desi Jr. I think. PS--"Leave It To Beaver"?? I hate that show!! Sorry! :p  Ireneparalegal 07-06-2008, 09:35 PM I never considered SURVIVOR a reality show. I am a fan of that show since day one. I consider it a game show which happens to take place outdoors, not on a stage. The real first reality show is THE REAL WORLD. Much thanks or blame goes to that show for what we now have. It began in 1992. Haunted_Armoire 07-06-2008, 09:48 PM Actually the first real reality show where cameras invaded a private world of a family and recorded day to day strife and more was the PBS show about The Louds in the 1970's called "An American Family". ;) Ireneparalegal 07-06-2008, 09:50 PM ^^^yes, true dat. I also remember NBC's REAL PEOPLE which ran from 1979-84. |
