I've just been told that the network's comedy pilot The Inn (20th Century Fox TV/ Reveille/Principato-Young Entertainment) is officially picked up to series now. Just before this decision, the pilot was given the go-ahead by Fox to meet writers. So they can hire now. Directed by Jason Bateman, the pilot "screened best," I was told earlier today. The network liked it from the start, even though its initial script was deemed "unreadable" by some people whose opinions I respect. Writer/Exec Prod: Abe Higgenbotham. Stars: Niecy Nash, Jerry O'Connell, Molly Stanton, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Jolene Purdy, Brando Eaton.

Pavan, any idea why a lower rated show would be picked up over the higher rated show (BTY being higher in the ratings)? Was it becuase episode 13 was the lowest-rated episode yet? Also, will the four episodes supposedly still air in the fall?

I really hope they end it properly. It would be absolutely horrible to end it Wednesday without a proper finale.

'Til Death is cheaper to make. Plus it is one season ahead of Back to You, which means closer to syndication. 'Til Death skews younger, too. Sure BTY gets a bit more in total viewers, but TD gets the same or sometimes better in 18-49.

Not sure, what Fox will do with the four unaired episodes. Maybe a burn-off or it won't be aired. We should know Thursday.

I actually think there's a strong possibility another network will go for this show. We just cannot let it go . . . maybe ABC will pick it up (it wouldn't be a shocker, considering they got Scrubs from NBC and possibly Old Chrstine from CBS).

This has got to be a blow for all of the creative people in front of and behind the camera of the show.

I thougth they were doing fine until the cast changes. At that point I started to lose confidence in the show. The one special twist this show had was the child that Chuck and Kelly secretly shared. When many episodes into the show they decided to make a cast change for that role, that was telling.

Hopefully will see Heaton and Grammer back in some type of sitcom soon, together or otherwise.

Plus, the strike definitely hurt the momentum of this show. The last episode before the strike was the best showing, besides the 2 episodes that aired after AI. You'd think, with all things considered, this show had the best shot at being renewed, especially over TD . . . I guess we were wrong.

The show's had a rocky season, no doubt, but with very few pilots, the 100 day strike, the midseason cast changes, I'm surprised they didn't renew it in some way. They outbid every other network for Back to You, and this is the way they treat it.

I highly suggest everyone email them immediately, saying they want the show to come back. It's the least we can do right now to have even a miniscule chance of saving this show. I know how you were feeling . . . I was the exact same way. I actually found out first when I saw the TV Guide article about it posted on the main page. Then I came to the boards, and found out it was actually true. I was just in complete shock. This was the show everyone thought would be the first to be renewed. I don't get how it can go from having a full 24 episode first season order (after only 5 or so airings in the fall) to be cancelled.

I think Sunday Night would have been Good for BTY. It also sucks that it couldn't get atleast one more chance in the fall season when it's dark earlier nd people are in more versus March and APRIL when its dar later and the weather is nicer

It's also surprising it was cancelled because of all the things Heaton and Grammar have accomplished in the past and you would think that alone would automicially earn them ONE MORE SEASON

Their email address is askfox@fox.com. I just sent an email telling them that it was a major disappointment that BTY was cancelled. Nothing major. I'm just hoping more people will take a minute or 2 and send them an email.

It was another good point made about the 8-9pm shows seeing ratings decrease. And it's very true . . . the fact that Daylight Savings time was earlier this year probably hurt most of the 8pm hour shows. All major shows have seen ratings decreases . . . DWTS, Big Bang Theory, AI, Deal or No Deal, Ugly Betty, and more.

I remember when The Boys Are Back was on, and saw ads for it, but never watched it. George Newbern (Kimberly Williams' husband in the Father of the Bride movies) was one of the "boys".

No hiding on my end, just been under the weather. The news is very distressing. I truly enjoyed the show. I think it belongs on CBS. It just has that feel to it. FOX is simply not a sitcom network. Who knows what will happen. This is likely curtains for the show, but I've seen all sorts of things happen with shows. I don't know what Kelsey and Patty's salaries were. If they were way out there, I guess I understand the cancelation. Perhaps they should have started mid-range salary, with a clause that if the show really took off, so would their paychecks. I'm not blaming them, and I think that FOX should have given the show at least some shows into next season. It wasn't given a fair shot, while they renewed that POS Til Death.

You think there's a chance in hell CBS would even consider going back to this show? I mean, they already have 2 new sitcoms coming in (almost for sure), with 5 returning (considering Old Chrstine will return). That's quite a lot. If they brought in BTY, it would make an even 8 sitcoms, where they could make 2 separate nights for all of them. Highly unlikely, but a suggestion.

I just think FOX acted to quickly to Wednesday's ratings. Sure, they weren't good, but I don't think that accounts for cancelling a show just like that. I hope the series (?) finale scores huge.

That's what I was saying with my CBS theory before. If they pick it up, they would the absolute network for sitcoms. I'm fairly sure NBC wouldn't want it - where would they put it? If Fox airs the four unaired ones, they should do it right away...but it seems unlikely as Fox has a reality filled summer planned. I bet if the four do air, they'll burn them for like 2 weeks on a Sunday from 7-8pm.

If Fox airs the four unaired ones, they should do it right away...but it seems unlikely as Fox has a reality filled summer planned. I bet if the four do air, they'll burn them for like 2 weeks on a Sunday from 7-8pm.

Pavan, if this is truely the end, do you think we'll see a dvd release? I know I keep comparing them but Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, the short-lived Matthew Perry drama that aired on NBC during the 2006-2007 schedule was NBC's most expensive shows last year. After being cancelled, WB gave it a complete series dvd release since the show had such high costs. Do you think we could recieve a proper dvd release? Word was from someone here on the board that went to a taping that said they were filming extras for a possible dvd release but that was before the cancellation news came to be.

Well, I can't say I'm surprised. Afterall, this is the same network that cancelled Arrested Development. It really pisses me off though. :mad: I think I'm pretty much done with FOX now. With the exception of baseball and football, I won't be watching anything on FOX next season. To hell with them! Funny thing is I was actually starting to enjoy Til Death a little bit, but now that BTY is cancelled, what's the point in watching it? Oh and that show The Inn or whatever it's called, probably won't even last as long as BTY did. :rolleyes:

I believe it's the only network that would give this show a real chance. Put it on at 9:30 after 2 1/2 Men. They might work out a deal with ABC and agree on lower production costs for the 1 season. CBS is already over crowded and NBC had some kind of altercation with Grammer concerning Frasier so I doubt there's a chance there.

Well, I am also upset that BTY was canned, but I can't say I am surprised.

As roseanne88-97 pointed out a few pages ago, the writer's strike hurt the show's momentum. The strike did that for a lot of new shows on other networks as well.

But FOX should have had more patience and respect for BTY, considering the star power in front and behind the cameras - they deserved another season to win back viewers and get on track.

But as i said this is FOX: if a show isn't #1 instantly, it's gone.

I signed the petition. We should try what Jericho fans did. Sure they only got one more season out of it but, that would be better than nothing.

The fact that BTY is being shopped elsewhere means that the producers have given up hope that Fox might change their mind. My hopes were for ABC but I read that they may renew Miss-guided. Let's wait and see. I don't know whether they're considering cable at all, something like showtime, USA or TNT. Also, both Kelsey and Patty own production companies so they may join forces with Levitan's company and produce the show themselves. Of course that may mean a drop in salaries but if they have faith in the show they may be willing to take that risk and perhaps ABC or someother network may give them a chance.

I hate the fact that Fox waited until the last minute to let them know. That leaves them absolutely no time to negotiate. Upfronts are next week and most networks have already made their decisions....

Do you have a more creative suggestion? We could create some kind of campaign revolving around something having to do with the newsroom. That would be really tough, though. I'm not too creative of a person-LOL

I'd love to see another network go for this show. CBS would be our best bet. ABC would be okay though, too. IF they would have a solid sitcom block and BTY was a part of it, this show would get far more exposure. I'd absolutely love to see the CW go for it, though. It would be a ratings breakthrough for the network.

or, they used to have a "Anchorize Yourself" page. Everyone can paste their own pictures there, print it out and send it to FOX and 20th Century Fox.

FOX sucks. Most of the shows I've liked on this network have been cancelled way too soon.

it was only last year that here in the UK, channel four had bought the rights to back to you and for it to be shown on tv :eek: . hell, this news is just as shocking, seeing as it is about to debut later on this year

Back To You didn't even have the benefit of a full season, due to the writers strike. The show was finally beginning to gel...and now it's cancelled, thank FOX very much.:rolleyes:

The one current show on TV that I watch, except for The Office, and this is what happens. Go figure ...... too bad because I really enjoyed this series a lot.

I have come to the decision that I am not going to watch any new show in its first season. If it gets renewed for a second season, I'll watch summer reruns, rent the DVDs or just figure it out as I go along when I start the second season.

I definitely agree. Not one new sitcom sounds good, or even remotely watchable, next season. Even Big Bang Theory, which I used to be a huge fan of, is getting me bored. This show will definitely be a huge loss to television if it doesn't come back next season.

I think Krusty The Klown is right about Fox when he disses them.

Its like when they cancelled Titus, one of the truly great sitcoms they had. They were telling them what to do with storylines before they axed that show too. Fox is run by idiots. The only shows I watch on it now are 24 and Bones and every year they threaten to send Bones to the Friday night death slot. :rolleyes:

Apparently, CBS is really interested(per several sources, one says the showrunner has delivered episodes to CBS bosses) but I'm still skeptical especially considering CBS has a lot of sitcoms already and a couple will be new in the fall. I do think it would fit better on CBS than it did on FOX but I think it should have picked up there from the start.

CBS didn't back down. As Levitan said FOX really persuaded them and fought really hard to get the show giving them the best deal (13 episode committment) and many promises they never kept!

We know it's a long shot but HOPE is the last to die. Now if you want to help you know what to do ... ifs and buts are just time wasting!
