Corner Gas is pumped out. The hit Canadian sitcom that made it okay to use the words "hit," "Canadian" and "sitcom" in the same sentence un-ironically is ending after this season. Star Brent Butt says he decided to end the show now that Americans have discovered it because . . . hey, that's funny. Besides, with the price of gas the show would have to be rewritten to make Butt's character a millionaire.

I need to get this show on DVD. They don't have it in any of the stores anywhere. Amazon has them.

This show is funny as hell. Too bad no more seasons are coming our way. :(

At least they're going out on top - and there are very few shows you can say that about.

For sure Monika. If this sitcom aired on one of the major networks such as ABC, it would sure bring back more sitcoms our way. This show is the BOMB!!!!

I wish it was syndicated on other channels besides WGN.

Well, I'll see if Netflix has it and then I'll sample it. Right now, I'm on a big old movie kick (which has gotten me to actually watch Deanna Durbin flicks!)

There's still this season! ;)

From Canada.com (http://www.canada.com/saskatoonstarphoenix/news/story.html?id=9d00c98d-c1e4-4c15-b418-a5d2293542aa&k=55550):

"Corner Gas creator and star Brent Butt announced Thursday this upcoming sixth season will be the last. Shooting begins next month, with the season finale to air in the spring of 2009. A television special or movie in the future hasn't been ruled out." Published: Friday, April 11, 2008.

Sounds like something to look forward to! :D

The way the article is written("Star Brent Butt says he's decided to end the show now that Americans have discovered it... ") that sounds a little like they are saying now that americans know about the show that they want to stop it or am I just looking into this a tad to much?

Really bad move in my opinion. The show is still great and I will miss it.

Well, there's one season to go, and WGN paid for the rights for 2 years, so, likely youll get season 6 next year....I think Brent is making a mistake, this will never work as a movie!!! :(:(:(:(

I took that statement as being sarcastic. I mean, that is what the whole show is filled with. I highly doubt he really meant that statement literally. ;)

I believe that what he's saying is: "I've accomplished every goal I had for the show (Incl having it "play" in the USA), now it's time to end it!"
I certainly agree he's ending it too fast, for one thing, with only 13-19 eps a season, he's really only gone the equivalent of 3 US seasons!!!

Oh okay. I seem to always take things a little to serious. Corner Gas at the moment is probably my favorite current show and I will dearly miss it.

I feel exactly the same way...seriously, we need to send a petition to Brent Butt, asking him to come to his senses!

Where in the US do you live? The average show in the US is about 22 to 26 epidsodes a season, sitcom-wise, isn't it?

Well, 13 shows is half of 26...ok, lets say 3 1/2 seasons then...and, i don't actually live ANYWHERE in the USA, but, i am 45 mins across the border from Buffalo NY :D
