View Full Version : MyNetworkTV Upfront: Fall 2008
Du Mont 04-14-2008, 06:47 PM Over the weekend, Mr. Greg Meidel, President of MyNetworkTV released a first draft of the MyNetworkTV schedule for this coming fall. MyNetworkTV is conducting their upfront in the upcoming weeks on an agency-by-agency one-on-one basis rather than the traditional press conference format used by other networks.
Interesting news to sitcomsonline members and visitors is that MyNetworkTV is planning a night of comedy on Wednesday nights.

"WWE SMACKDOWN" moves over from The CW in September, after having completed a seven season run on UPN and a two season run on The CW (where it is The CW's most-viewed series).
"MY SATURDAY NIGHT MOVIES" will be comprised of a mix of broadcast premieres and encores.
MyNetworkTV has previously cancelled "IFL Battleground", but the network did not disclose which of it's existing series have been cancelled and/or renewed for midseason, including:
Academy, The (greenlit for a second FOX REALITY season)
Best of In Living Color, The (receiving a try-out this spring post "Under One Roof")
Control Room Presents...
Decision House
Meet My Folks
NFL Network: Total Access
Paradise Hotel 2
Whacked Out Videos
In interviews surrounding the release of the fall schedule, Mr. Meidel also revealed that the network has pilots under consideration for a new sitcom and/or skit-variety series, plus a pilot for a new dramatic series. If picked up, the sitcom could be slotted into the Wednesday at 8:30 TBA slot.
JulieSomoski 04-15-2008, 03:33 PM Why did CW cancel WWE Smackdown in the first place if it's their highest rated series.
I hope it does really well on MyNetworkTV. Wouldn't it be funny if this network started pulling higher ratings than the CW?

WWE Smackdown doesn't fit CW because they are only trying to reach the teen scene...
JulieSomoski 04-15-2008, 04:05 PM WWE Smackdown doesn't fit CW because they are only trying to reach the teen scene...
That's exactly why they're pulling in ratings lower than ever right now.
GameShowFan1986 04-16-2008, 09:18 AM I read that Decision House is looking for new couples for second season...

"MAGIC SECRETS" is an umbrella series encompassing new and encore episodes of "Breaking the Magicians Code", a series of specials that originally aired on FOX.
"THE TONY ROCK PROJECT" is a sketch comedy show starring Mr. Tony Rock, the brother of Mr. Chris Rock from "Everybody Hates Chris", that will fuse reality (streeter interviews, hidden camera footage) with comic examination of race, class and power.
"LIFE'S FUNNIEST MOMENTS" is a comedic clip-show that is a series out-growth of four specials that have aired on MyNetworkTV this season: "Santa's Funniest Moments", "Cupid's Funniest Moments", "Easter's Funniest Moments" and "Mother's Funniest Moments".
"WWE SMACKDOWN" moves over from The CW in September, after having completed a seven season run on UPN and a two season run on The CW (where it is The CW's most-viewed series).

mgsports 06-11-2008, 10:53 AM How about Sunday Nights?
How about a Game Shows to?
How about their own Daytime programming with rights to the Court Shows and others?
Moments shows are good meaning the ones with Videos.
Jude The Obscure 06-11-2008, 11:30 AM I think the days of networks trying to program Daytime are gone....Fox has never attempted it, with the exception of "After Breakfast" with Tom Bergeron and NBC is almost completely out of daytime--except for airing a 4th hour of "Today" and "Days of Our Lives".

Ewww, NBC. UR right about that Jude.
Du Mont 06-11-2008, 02:16 PM As has been widely reported over the past two days, Mr. Arsenio Hall has signed on as host for "Funniest Moments", MyNetworkTV's new You-Tubish clips show on Wednesday nights at 9 pm.
For those who want to see a preview of the look and feel of this show, there is a Father's Day-themed special version on tonight at 9 pm called "Dad's Funniest Moments".
I'm still betting that MNTV will outlast the CW. They have much lower operating expenses I'm sure and SmackDown! will help.

Yeah, wresting will definitely help them out a lot. It could even be the show that puts them ahead of the CW in the ratings next season.
PWEDTC 06-13-2008, 01:48 PM The CW shot themselves in the foot by ditching Smackdown.

Du Mont 11-17-2008, 10:24 PM MyNetworkTV at Mid-Season: Two New Series + Two Old Series
The futoncritic.com reported a new mid-season sked from MyNetworkTV that begins to rollout out in early January, and that continues with changes being made up to the middle of February.
Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays will all see changes, while Thursdays to Saturdays will remain untouched.
The big winner was Associated Television International, with two new series on order, in addition to the continuing 'World's Funniest Moments' starring Mr. Arsenio Hall. Here's a bit about MyNetworkTV's two new second season series :
'Masters of Illusion' is an outgrowth from a series of 7 specials that aired last season (some of which had previously aired on the PAX network), and 13 new episodes have been ordered up to take over the timeslot of 'Magic's Biggest Secret's' on Mondays at 9 pm (leading out of 'The Twilight Zone' encores). 'Masters of Illusion' will continue to build up the Monday MyNetwork Magic brand that 'Magic's Biggest Secrets' has established this fall.
A new 30-minute crime reality limited series 'Vice Squad' has been ordered as a Tuesday 9-9:30-10 pm replacement to allow 'Jail' to go on hiatus in January and February (probably returning back for the March Sweep).
The other big news in todays announcement are two returning series:
The return of 'Under One Roof', which returns in January on Wednesdays at 9:30 pm and then takes over the 9 pm slot as well in February. It is uncertain whether a second season of episodes have been ordered (there are still 2 unaired episodes remaining from the first season).
The return of 'Whacked Out Videos', which returns in Febuary on Tuesdays at 9-9:30-10 pm, replacing the limted run 'Vice Squad' in the 'Jail' timeslot'.
Still sitting on the shelf at this point (and probably awaiting the March Sweep "third season" for their debut) are the following MyNetworkTV mid-season series still in development:
'Dead Man Running' from the producers of 'The Shield' and starring Mr. Michael Madsen;
'The Eddie Griffin Sketch Show';
'Comics Unleashed', a broadcast network version of the syndicated series;
'Never Better', the sitcom from ABC Studios starring Mr. Damon Wayans that ABC passed over and that has been shopped around to other networks.
MyNetworkTV also announced a whole whack of theatrical titles for the New Year to fill it's 'My Thursday Night Movie' and 'My Saturday Night Movie' timeslots. Amongst the titles, some receiving their broadcast network premieres (marked with asterisk *), are the following: GIRL 6* (an early Spike Lee Joint), BUSHWHACKED*, RIVER'S EDGE, PUSHING TIN, THE OBJECT OF MY AFFECTION, NAPOLEON DYNAMITE, JOHNNY DANGEROUSLY (early Mr. Michael Keaton), THE VANISHING, CONNOR'S WAR*, THE COMMITMENTS, NO WAY OUT and WING COMMANDER.
Jude The Obscure 11-18-2008, 08:53 PM Pav, has MNT improved a lot with their new strategy?
ryan423 11-19-2008, 10:17 PM I really am confused? Whats the key demographic for this network? What in the world are they going for here? There schedule is about as entertaining as late night paid-programming! LOL.
Pavan 11-19-2008, 10:23 PM MNT has improved, much better than where they were when they were airing the scripted telenovelas. But they don't air any scripted programming anymore really (besides Tony Rock and Under One Roof). All reality basically. Smackdown has helped them a lot.
Du Mont 12-30-2008, 03:49 AM MyNetworkTV, who in recent years brought the nightly movie franchise back to broadcast network television (ABC and The CW have both recently added a movie night), has recently enjoyed great Nielsen success with a number of theatrical titles in their annual December "My Month for the Holidays" programming strategy.
MyNetworkTV has confirmed titles for January 2009, including three broadcast premieres...the network has been promoting the "Napoleon Dynamite" premiere heavily in mid-season promo bumpers.
Here's a list of upcoming MyNetworkTV movies:
MyThursdayNightMovie - 8-10 pm

All MyNetworkTV movies are presented in High Definition.
Du Mont 01-18-2009, 02:54 PM MyNetworkTV has confirmed its eight theatrical titles for February 2009, including five broadcast premieres. I am expecting the network to soon be announcing some mid-season changes to its Wednesday comedy line-up, which has been severely under-performing in the 9-10 pm timeslot.
Here's a list of upcoming MyNetworkTV movies:

Pavan 02-09-2009, 08:50 PM For Fall 2009, MyNetwork TV has acquired Law & Order: Criminal Intent reruns and will run it weekly in a two-hour block.
MyNetwork TV is moving to what it is calling a "programming service model" for fall 2009, featuring a two-hour block of Law & Order: Criminal Intent and also a movie night, so that is 2 nights right there and 3 nights will remain for MNT to program, and one of those nights will be WWE Smackdown. The new model decreases MNT's programming from 12 hours a week to 10 as Saturday nights will be removed.
Possible Fall line-up (it will be announced soon)
Mondays - Original Programming
Tuesdays - Law & Order: Criminal Intent or Original Programming
Wednesdays - Law & Order: Criminal Intent or Original Programming
Thursdays - My Thursday Movie
Fridays - WWE Smackdown!
Saturdays and Sundays will be programmed by local affiliates.
ryan423 02-09-2009, 11:04 PM That's great. Sunday Nights, my local programming is 2hrs of SVU. And Criminal Intent already airs for me at 11pm nightly on My9!
Du Mont 02-12-2009, 12:20 PM MyNetworkTV has confirmed its theatrical titles and specials for the 2009 March Sweep, a line-up that is light on broadcast premieres (originals) but heavy on well-known, highly promotable encore titles, very much in keeping with the spirit of the 'new' MyNetworkTV.
MyNetworkTV has also skedded specials in the troubled Wednesday 9-10 pm slot for three of the four Wednesdays. Only one Wednesday (March 11th) will have the first season (series?) finale of 'The Tony Rock Project' at 9:00 pm followed by an encore of the series at 9:30 pm.
Here's a list of upcoming MyNetworkTV movies:
MyThursdayNightMovie - 8-10 pm

Du Mont 02-13-2009, 12:31 AM Beginning Wednesday April 8th, 'Comics Unleashed' begins its run on MyNetworkTV every Wednesday at 9:00 pm and 9:30 pm replacing encores of 'The Tony Rock Project' and 'Under One Roof'.
This series is a half-hour broadcast version of the syndicated series hosted by Mr. Byron Allen that first started in 2006. I'm unsure as to whether the episodes will be new or encores of the syndicated versions.
MyNetworkTV has skedded double-up episodes of the series through to the May Sweep.
Du Mont 03-22-2009, 04:40 AM Mediapost.com reports today that MyNetworkTV has begun the process of re-negotiating their standard five-year affiliate agreements to one-year renewable deals beginning with the 2009-10 season. The deal gives affiliates 7 minutes of ad time per hour on Mondays-Thursdays, and 5 minutes/hour of ad time on Fridays for 'WWE Smackdown' (programming on Saturday nights will be discontinued this coming fall).
According to mediapost.com, the News Corp group of MNT owned-and-operated (o&o) affiliates have already signed on, as have many of the major affiliate groups. The network does not expect to lose affiliates as a result of the renegotiation.
The network also confimed three nights of their 2009-10 fall schedule:
Monday:
8 pm 'Law & Order: Criminal Intent' (encores)
9 pm 'Law & Order: Criminal Intent' (encores)
Tuesday:
8-10 pm TBA
Wednesday:
8-10 pm TBA
Thursday:
8-10 pm 'My Thursday Night Movie'
Friday:
8-10 pm 'WWE Friday Night Smackdown'
The NBC Universal deal gives the local stations half the ad-time while NBCU retains the other half for national sales. If MyNetworkTV opts for similar syndie-type deals on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, that will leave only two nights of national ad time for MNT to sell (Thursday and Friday nights).
Du Mont 03-24-2009, 01:09 AM MyNetworkTV has confirmed its theatrical titles and specials for April 2009, a line-up that features five consecutive broadcast premieres on the 'My Thursday Night Movie' and one broadcast preem on the soon-to-be-disbanded Saturday movie night.
MyNetworkTV will also be making changes to the troubled Wednesday 9-10 pm slot, with double-ups of syndicated 'Comics Unleashed' taking over the slot out of 'World's Funniest Moments' and with this skedding to be maintained going into the May Sweep.
Here's a list of upcoming MyNetworkTV movies:

MyNetworkTV Specials
Wednesday April 1st: "Shaken Not Stirred: Bobby Brown" -> Fourth comedy roast in the special series.
All MyNetworkTV movies and specials are presented in High Definition.
Du Mont 04-14-2009, 09:40 AM MyNetworkTV has confirmed its theatrical titles and specials for May 2009, a line-up that features five broadcast premiere theatrical films, one on the 'My Thursday Night Movie' and four broadcast preems on the soon-to-be-disbanded 'My Saturday Night Movie' skein.
This week and next, MyNetworkTV will making a careful assessment of the troubled Wednesday 9-10 pm slot, where double-ups of the syndicated 'Comics Unleashed' premiered last week to disastrous ratings, losing 900,000 viewers and 0.3 in A18-49 of the lead-in audience from 'World's Funniest Moments'. If this unacceptable performance continues over the next two Wednesdays, I expect the network will pull the series for the May Sweep and replace it with something else off the shelf (i.e. 'Twilight Zone', perhaps an encore of the 'Mom's Funniest Moments' special from last May).
Here's a list of upcoming MyNetworkTV movies:

MyNetworkTV Specials
Wednesday May 27th: "Shaken Not Stirred: Rev Run" -> Fifth comedy roast in the special series.
All MyNetworkTV movies and specials are presented in High Definition.
Du Mont 04-23-2009, 04:09 PM According to futoncritic.com and tvguide.com, MyNetworkTV has pulled 'Comics Unleashed' from their schedule effective immediately.
For the four Wednesdays of the May Sweep, MyNetworkTV has skedded an encore of 'World's Funniest Moments' at 9-10 pm, following an original episode at 8-9 pm in its regular timeslot.
There is no indication from the network whether 'Comics Unleashed' will return after the Sweep, but it is considered unlikely as the series was garnering extremely poor ratings, especially in the 9:30-10 pm timeslot which is of crucial importance as it leads into affiliate local news and syndicated programming.
Du Mont 04-25-2009, 09:29 AM MyNetworkTV released the first month of its summer sked which will see 'Twilight Zone' returning on Wednesday June 3rd in the Wednesday at 9-10 pm timeslot, and will also see an unaired episode of 'Celebrity Expose' return to the Monday 8-9 pm line-up for a one-off timeslot tryout.
As reported earlier, for the duration of the May Sweep, MyNetworkTV has dropped 'Comics Unleashed' from the Wednesday at 9 pm slot, and replaced it with encores of 'World's Funniest Moments' which has been a stable million-viewer-plus performer on MyNetworkTV this season. There has been no indication from the network as to whether or not 'Comics Unleashed' will return to the schedule, although it is assumed unlikely due to poor ratings in six episodes already aired over three Wednesdays.
The first draft of a summer sked is as follows (NEW SHOWS IN CAPS):
Monday:
8:00 pm 'Masters of Illusion' encores (new 'Celebrity Expose' episode June 1st only)
9:00 pm 'Magic's Biggest Secrets' encores

8:30 pm 'Street Patrol' encores
9:00 pm 'Jail' encores
9:30 pm 'Jail' encores
