Wow, this is all news to me! I have never known him to guest star on there. I have seen Addams Family in spirts, not every episode. Because you said for racial reasons, Hollywood probably never credited him on that.

I wonder what role he played on there.

i've never cared for the Adams Family, but I would love to see that episode.

Yea I've seen every episode of the Addams Family and he never guest starred. I never heard anything about him filming anything that was banned either. This sounds like a joke thread. :lol:

Before Sanford and Son, Foxx had made a handful of classic guest appearances on The Lucy Show, The Addams Family, Mr. Ed and Green Acres.

That link isn't sufficient evidence as far as I'm concerned. Please provide some proof that the episode was actually filmed. IMDb doesn't mention any of the above appearances among Redd's credits. If Redd Foxx actually guest starred in any of these shows, They would acknowledge at least one of them but they don't.

If the show was filmed it would at least be in syndication and it isn't. I don't believe Redd guest starred in any of those shows. I loved sitcoms from the 60's and watched a lot of them. Redd wasn't in them.

The TV Land link also lists Redd as appearing on The Lucy Show, and I know for a fact that he never appeared on that! (although I would love to see that if it were true!)

It looks like TV Land's research is about as reliable as their claim to being the home of "classic TV."

I thought that photo looked fake so I did a little research and found some info at the IMDB message board for Redd Foxx.


That was another actor named John J. Fox, who also went by John 'Red' Fox. I remember seeing Red Fox's name in the tv guide many years ago, as a guest on The Addams Family. I thought it was a typo, because of the spelling and that it was weird that I had never seen Redd Foxx on the show, LOL. Not knowing it was this other person. I have never seen him or at least I can't remember by his name, more than likely I've seen him as a character actor in some movies and tv shows. He is not African-American.

maybe Redd was credited for some of the writing on these shows....he had a mind for comedy, and perhaps TV land has him credited in the wrong manner...perhaps he was
originally credited for contributing his jokes to these shows, not his appearances....

If Redd had written anything, he would be credited for that work. It is a pure mix-up on the man who had a similar name to Redd.

Yeah, I agree with Ireneparalegal. It's gotta just be a mix-up with that John Fox. Redd Foxx's name was originally John, but it was John Sanford, not John Foxx (or John Fox). Not that tv.com is an authority (it's user submitted just like wikipedia and imdb.com), but the only guest starring role they have listed for Redd Foxx (besides biography type shows or talk/variety/game shows) is one apperance on Grady (a Sanford and Son spinoff) as Fred Sanford.

ignore this poster. the same thread is over on 'The Lucy Show' board. They photo-shopped a photo of Lucy and Gale Gordon on a plan and put Redd's face on Gordons body. some people need a life and mental help.:rolleyes:
