They've always used the SBTB Theme for syndication. I don't even know how the GMMB theme goes. lol

Trust me. You heard nothing different. Same theme. The original theme "Best of Times" composed by Charles Fox has not been heard since 1989 on Disney. Go to you tube to hear the opening and closing.

One thing I always noticed about the Good Morning Miss Bliss episodes is that an older Zach (from high school) is speaking at the beginning of each episode to reminise about Jr. High or explain some lesson that the gang learns in the episode. I remember during the early 1990's syndication of SBTB on TBS, the GMMB episodes would be randomly mixed into the series. Do they still do that now or is GMMB starts as season one?

When NBC picked up the project (or show) the show got a makeover which included the theme song. When three GMMB eps aired during the summer og 1990, Saved By the Bell transitional scene music was added to the eps along with the theme song. This was also done when GMMB was added to the syndication package for "Bell" in 1991 as well to avoid confusion and to keep theme continuity. :)

You want proof that transistion music of GMMB was different from "Bell"? Look at end of the "Deke" episode when Deke scares Screech. You hear Saved by the Bell music ending but if you go to you tube to watch the closing credits for "Bliss" you will see that same "Deke" scene only with saxophone music in the background.

I knew they changed it when the show entered syndication with the Saved by the Bell episodes. NEver knew they changed transitional music as well. To avoid confusion . . . that just doesn't make much sense to me. Wouldn't it make things more confusing by changing the music?-LOL

Maybe "confusion" is a bad word. What I was trying to say was in order to disguise the show and give it more of a "Saved By The Bell" feeling, the transitional music composed for "Bell" was added in. The music that we hear on the GMMB version in syndication was not composed until either 1989, 1990 or 1991 and 1991 was when all 13 eps of the show were edited and revamped for five day a week airings.

If you really pay attention to the first season of "Bell" when they are at Bayside, you only hear the 80's transitional rock music consisting of guitar and saxophone.

The next seasons more tranistional music is composed and it sounds more like dance and techno than that distinctive rock sound. The new transitional compositions consisited of keyboard and synthesizers(occasional sax and guitar as well). And at times a later episode had transitional music from the 80's along with dance type music composed.

When "Bliss" joined the syndication package, the editors obviously had a widespread choice of transitional music when they were piecing the eps together. I know this seems technical, but I really give attention to stuff like this since I am into television. I just happen to study every angle and aspect.

I guess they wanted the GMMB episodes to fit in with the rest of the series. Too bad we couldn't get these 13 episodes out on DVD, with the original music and all. That would be great to see again.

EXACTLY! What you just said makes for great cliffnotes for my draaawn out explanation. LOL. If you watch closely, you can just tell. The episode when the students are at the 8th grade dance, the rythm seemed a little off when they were dancing to some music. Later compositions were edited in to make it look like "Bell" material.

88-97, you are right. It would be great to see the show in the original format. Check out youtube for the closing of the show though.

Really? Wow I get why they'd change the transitional music, but changing the dance music just seems really weird to me. So it's not the traditional "Bell" music, but it was a long time ago and they were back in jr. high so their tastes would've been a bit different. I think it'd make perfect sense, but maybe I'm just weird like that.
Lol anyway now I'm curious to get an original copy to see what it was really like originally.

(BTW it's been years since these episodes, but I'm curious about the Stevie episode? Were any of the songs changed for syndication on that one?)

miniZackMorris

yes the music would have also been different because itr was early 90s late 80s so the taste of music is different then what we would like now

The Stevie episode had transitional music that was changed as well. The only music that was original was the song that Stevie performed which was "Hotline".

I have another theme-related question. Why, when the show entered syndication, did they replace the original openings with the last season theme song? I remember watching the original themes when the show first aired on NBC, but once the show went to TBS and local syndication, they only used the last season theme that's most known today.

This is true. Amber-Tiffani is gorgeous but I don't like the character she portrayed. Kelly sort of bored me. I liked her better as Valerie on 90210.

Let's see...

In 1989 the theme that we hear very much today was used.

During the middle of that season, the theme that Michael Damian performed was used for the next year and a half.

During the third season, NBC went back to the original theme which was also used in syndication.

All I remember is that the show had a different opening sequence for the first 2 seasons than the last 2. I'm pretty sure those are included on the DVD's, along with the different theme song.
