View Full Version : You've gotta love those kooky writers when they do something wrong!
Janice Johnson 04-07-2008, 02:48 PM You gotta love the writers when they mess up! Willona says her ex-husband's name was Alvin. But, when her ex husband shows up on screen, he is called Ray.   There are so many other times the writers do something wrong, that I will just post one instance for now.:)
Jude The Obscure 04-07-2008, 03:08 PM Maybe his name is Alvin Ray :D
Like James, he was Henry on Good Times--his dad on Good Times was called Henry.

But The character Amos played on Maude wasn't the same he played on Good Times so in that case it was ok

Well then Florida wasn't the same either :p

Jude the characters on Good Times and Maude were not the same. It was a error in the naming of the character for Good Times which always led to the confusion that Good Times was a spinoff but it really wasn't
Brieannas21 04-07-2008, 10:37 PM Everyone knows how I feel on this topic.

You'll have to do better than that to convince me!

I read in a 1974 ebony magazine where executive producer Alan Manings stated that GT wasn't really a spinoff. And that it's easy to connect the two shows because of the same last name. But one major hint that it wasn't a spinoff is the reason below
1,.Henry Evans
Jude The Obscure 04-07-2008, 11:40 PM so Esther Rolle just happened to play two different characters named "Florida Evans" on two different shows?

There was a error in the naming of the Good times character. She wasn't supposed to have the name Florida, her name was supposed to be different from her name on Maude, like how John amos character name was changed. Just never understood why they changed the husband name and not the wife
CWDogg 04-11-2008, 07:25 PM They should have named her "Georgia"
TVFactFan 04-11-2008, 07:28 PM They should have named her "Georgia"
Anything but Florida

The name of her character was suppose to be Mattie Black. The original title of the show was "The Black Family". The name of the mother was the only named that changed. Due to her popularity on Maude, Norman Lear decided to cast her for the show using the Florida Evans name but not the character. I guess it was publicity to get people to watch the show.

In the season 6 premiere, Willona mentioned her ex-husband "Roger the Dodger" - remember that? She was talking about this to Thelma and Michael when Florida opened the door to thunderous applause.
chacha6581 10-16-2008, 10:34 AM Well, the Jeffersons was in Ny, and the Evans grew up in the same area that they resided in......

Yet, another screw up by the kooky writers! So, Willona's ex-husband had three different names, huh? Unless she was some serial monogamist and married three different guys, but I highly doubt Willona was like that................
