View Full Version : Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Lee 04-04-2008, 09:21 PM He was assassinated 40 years ago today(4/4/68) KissMyGrits 04-04-2008, 11:58 PM RIP Dr. King. You were truly a man that believed in the power of the spoken word rather than violence. You gave your life for what you believed in. Your memory is carried on in the hearts and minds of millions of Americans. Nighthawk76 04-05-2008, 12:01 AM I think along with the death of the Kennedys and America's involvment in Vietnam, King's death played a major role in the loss of innocence in America. BarneyFife 04-05-2008, 12:30 AM Rest In Peace MLK! ABlairican Pie 04-05-2008, 01:07 AM Dr. King was regarded as a dangerous radical by the time of his death, his message of racial empowerment and social and economic equality became a little too alarming, as was his denunciation of the Vietnam War. It's amazing that the federal government has glossed over his "subversive" status in recent years and has sanitized him as this "super nice guy" who just payed the ultimate price for his cause. Not too many would be willing to follow in his footsteps, I'm sure. friendsfan77 04-05-2008, 02:06 AM RIP Dr. King :( InspectorExstead 04-05-2008, 02:49 AM rip dr. king. =( he was a great man. "Faith is taking the first step even when you don't see the whole staircase." -Dr. King He didn't see the entire staircase, yet he took that first step & fought for what he believed in. *ClassicPinUp* 04-05-2008, 03:04 AM RIP Dr. King. Let no man pull you low enough to hate him. In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends. Hatred paralyzes life; love releases it. Hatred confuses life; love harmonizes it. Hatred darkens life; love illuminates it. The first question which the priest and the Levite asked was: "If I stop to help this man, what will happen to me?" But... the good Samaritan reversed the question: "If I do not stop to help this man, what will happen to him?" And one more of his many quotes that I live by; Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter. Janice 04-05-2008, 03:37 AM Why were people on here slow to acknowledge this? Lee, please don't pressure people to reply to threads. Look around, many threads have only a handful of replies. It's the way it goes, sometimes. Zoneboy 04-05-2008, 04:23 AM Lee, please don't pressure people to reply to threads. Look around, many threads have only a handful of replies. It's the way it goes, sometimes. I've started a few threads and got no replies but the number of views told me that people were at least reading them. GARFIELDKOOL 04-05-2008, 11:42 AM RIP Dr. King. You died so EVERYONE could have lots of freedom. OH Nuts! 04-05-2008, 11:49 AM Martin Luther King was a man of great courage, vision and was truly sainted. The world is a better place because of him. Scoobiedoo30 04-05-2008, 02:32 PM Rest in Peace Martin InspectorExstead 04-05-2008, 03:16 PM And one more of his many quotes that I live by; Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter. great quote. very, very true. DLevine2 04-05-2008, 09:33 PM R.I.P. MLK Jr. MrCleveland 04-05-2008, 10:18 PM MLK should be looked up toward many people. But now it seems that his moores are being neglected. ABlairican Pie 04-05-2008, 11:15 PM Dr. King was one of the most inspiring figures in American history. His words and sermons were passionate and straight on. I'm not sure many people would be bold enough today to follow his example of bravery and conviction. ABlairican Pie 04-05-2008, 11:17 PM MLK should be looked up toward many people. But now it seems that his moores are being neglected. That's true, his words are being co-opted, he's being paid lip service. Can we truly say that we are a nation that follows the path of non-violence in solving problems? |
