View Full Version : Nancy McKeon's 80s Hassle Hotline teen mag column
adultescent 04-04-2008, 12:11 PM Anyone else who grew up in the 80's remember reading Nancy McKeon's Hassle Hotline column in teen mag 'Super Teen'? ;) lol... We got a lot of American teen mags here in Australia during the 80's, and I remember reading, and enjoying, Nancy's column at the time, since I was a big fan of hers... I've scanned one of her columns, which might bring back some memories for people out there who read/saw her column in the 80's, but may have forgotten about it since ;) lol...

Also, did anyone here ever buy/get a copy of a booklet by Nancy, called "Boys! Beauty! Popularity!", that was available through American teen mags in the 80's? ... I have an ad for it from an issue of 'Tiger Beat', but I don't remember ever seeing/having this booklet, and never see it around anywhere now...
cavalier 04-04-2008, 03:29 PM Thanks for that scan. I started to become a fan of Nancy's in the late 80's so I missed all the 80's stuff on her in the mags. If you have anymore, I would love to read them!
RoryGilmore 04-04-2008, 04:47 PM I'm a 90's child so I missed all this stuff
Nanc and Lisa! 04-04-2008, 09:59 PM I have a magazine from ebay that has one of nancy's hassle hotline articles in it. its really good. of course anything dealing with nancy mckeon is nothing short of amazing.
Nighthawk76 04-04-2008, 11:49 PM Thats a really cool column. Thanks for sharing it with us. :)
JoPol_wannabe 04-05-2008, 09:49 AM Well I never knew Nancy did articles like that. After reading that it makes me have even more respect for her, I just think Nancy is such a cool lady. And yeah if you or anyone else has any other articles on Nancy please post them

:clap:You said it
littlebelle 04-05-2008, 11:16 PM Hahaha, man... looking at all this stuff takes me back to the old days (5th grade). My first obsession was FOL/Nancy McKeon.
Nighthawk76 04-05-2008, 11:32 PM I think that Nancy also looks very stunning in the picture...very unJo-like.
Nighthawk76 04-05-2008, 11:35 PM Seeing great articles like this I am really sorry that I didn't watch more of FOL when it first aired. I saw an episode or two when it aired on Saturday nights but I never truly got into it because I sort of looked at it as a girl's show. It wasn't until catching the reruns in December 2005 that I really got into the show. I think I really missed out not seeing more of the show in first run on NBC.
littlebelle 04-05-2008, 11:39 PM I'm really sad Nick @ Nite doesn't air it anymore. I used to tape all of the episodes when it was on. I loved it so much.

Besides for having the first three seasons on DVD, I also have about 70 episodes on tape. I'm still hoping that Sony gives us more DVDs though.
littlebelle 04-05-2008, 11:46 PM I guess I could purchase the dvd's... it just seems useless because I've seen every ep, not to mention I'm pretty sure I have a lot of them taped. I guess I would just like to see it on the air again.

Clothes look like Jo but the smile is almost too soft and the eyes too

I think the eyes and smile look like Jo, especially at that time. That's after her soft side came out.

Looking at it again I agree with you.
PlayOn 04-06-2008, 04:28 AM First, adultescent, thanx for posting the FOL episodes on youtube. :)
I was born in Oct. 1987, so I, too, missed out on the show and articles but it's die hard fans (like adultescent, ect) who keep the show alive for people of my generation. (stupid networks/dvd companies won't.)
Thanx for posting. That was a good article. And Nancy looks great (no shock)

Totally, I would've loved to live through the 80's!

Actually, the 1980's were not really as big a deal as they are often looked back upon as. Sure, it was a fun time to grow up, but people in the 1980's had all the same problems that people do now. The 80's have almost become mythical and the decade really wasn't like that.

Yeah, but I love the clothes, and the music, TV Shows, and movies.

Same! Do you know how cool it would be to watch a new episode of FOL every week and then talk about it with your friends at school like people do these days with modern tv shows?

Yeah, I used to do that with my friends in 4th and 5th grade when they aired on N@N. for us they were new:lol:

I watched it in 5th grade but most of my friends didn't. I can only think of one girl in my class that watched it. Plus that was during my FOL obsession so I was dying for people to relate to!
InspectorExstead 04-16-2008, 12:02 AM THAT was really cool to read! thanks for posting it. :)
