Mel never revealed how much he sold the Diner for unless it was mentioned on CBS and ION cut it out-lol

Like Tommy said-"$15,000????

I just now saw the last episode for the first time ever. I wasn't really sad by it until the end when I saw the "CLOSED" sign in the window! :(
I hate ION for removing this show yet again!

Yeah it was my first time seeing the final ep too. I think I have the CBS ep laying around somewhere in my apt

I don't think that it was too much, they helped him through out the years, they were all great friends. And I'm positive that they didn't get paid all that much.

So for all the years that they worked for Mel for that little pay, I think that giving $5,000 was a great deed that Mel did. It's all ways good to spread the wealth.

Boy they sure cut out a good chunk at the first commercial break. They cut out Jolene saying she was leaving, Vera passing out, then waking up, and her and Elliot finding out she was pregnant (I think she came back from the doctor and announced it)

ION's editing of this episode really, really BLEW CHUNKS! :barf:

In retrospect, shouldn't have CBS given Alice an hour retrospective? 9 seasons is quite an achievement for any sitcom, even these days. I mean M*A*S*H* ran 11 seasons and got to have 2 1/2 hour farewell movie! All Alice got was this little half hour wrap up :(

Jolene was opening up her own beauty salon I believe, I hadn't see the finale in years.

Yep, Jolene opens a beauty salon, and Alice goes on the road to sing with Travis Marsh. Good riddance to ION for removing this show. I'm hoping "Me-Tv" in Chicago pics this up, since they don't hack their shows up.

Maybe it was better that ION DID get rid of Alice, since the network treated the show like sH*T-lol

I noticed it was bad too with the 7 PM episode as well. The second segment started in the middle of a scene in about mid-sentence just like the finale.

I'm surprised Mel even got all that money for the diner. Remember how many times the diner got destroyed? I'm sure insurance didn't cover it all - and I'm surprised he was still able to get insurance after all the mishaps.

Well, it wasn't the diner per se, but rather the property it was sitting on that was worth money to the developers.

Not counting right after the finale, Mel's Diner was destroyed a total of 4 -- count 'em, 4 times!

How was the diner destroyed each time?

Jude The Obscure

How was the diner destroyed each time?

1. By Flo's driving of an 18-wheeler
2. By Vera's beloved tree crashing
3. By the wrecking ball designed to wreck the nursery school next door
4. By the hot air balloon crashing through the roof.

It's such a mixed feeling... it was awesome to finally see the show for the first time and I was glad that it had a home on a network. And I'm glad that it was shown because I wound up liking this show like I thought I would. However at the same time, I couldn't help but be annoyed by the bad edits, frequent pop-up ads and eventually split screen credits. And don't forget the skipped episodes. For all I know, I could have enjoyed those 3 from the final season that were not shown.

Anyone notice two things:

1) Tommy grew sooo tall, he was taller than everyone by that final show;

2) When they showed the clips of Tommy walking into the diner over the years, you could see the background and the different shots/background scenery.

Last night was the first time I noticed the crappy editing job of this show on ION. The girls were about to say where they were going and it was cut out. And then coming back in the middle of Vera talking about her pregnancy.

Ok, here is the ending that I remember,

Mel sold the diner and they were going to tear it down. He gave each of his waitress $5,000.

Vera, announced her pregnancy and Eliot announced he had promoted.

Jolene's Grandma died and left her some money to open up a beauty parlor.

Alice went to Nashville with Travis.

Hope this helps.

How about when the muscle men lifted the diner off the ground. It would be hard to open up for business when the diner wasn't conected to the pavement!

That was not a good series finale. That whole ninth season was a waste and a bad way for a good show to out. Alice had potential of going down as a classic series but here were the things that ruined the show:
Linda Lavin's behavior when Polly Holliday became the breakout star of the show. It was an ensemble show and she resented Polly getting all the attention.

Jolene was not a good addition but she stayed because she was not a threat to Linda Lavin.

Midway through the 7th season the performances was not as good compared to the earlier seasons especially in the 8th season.

Well, as far as I know, Alice was making $2.35 per hour then got a raise in 1976 or 1977 and then in 1979, she was up to $2.95 per hour. Cha Ching!
