If you had your own TV network, what would it be like? What would you call it? What kind of programming would it be and why? What would your schedule and primetime line-up include?

For my network, I wouLd call it RG-TV (Real Good TV). It would include a variety of programming from news to family comedies, classic television and a primetime line-up full of variety. I would introduce great family sitcoms like those of the 90's like Roseanne, The Fresh Prince, Blossom, etc. and would also have great dramas like the short-lived studio 60 on the sunset strip! My schedule would be something like this;


6-9am - News
9am - 12am - Talk Shows
12-2pm - Children/Teen Programming
1-4pm - Dramas like 7th Heaven, Everwood and Summerland...
5-8pm - Great Syndicated comedies (Friends, Raymond, King of Queens, George Lopez, Reba, Two and a half men, etc.)
8-10pm - Primetime TV (NO REALITY GARBAGE)
10PM - 6am - Something similiar to Nick @ Nite including classic sitcoms like All in the Family and The Jeffersons as well as family sitcoms like boy meets world, full house, family matters, etc.

My network would be called FE-TV (Full Entertainment Television) and would comprise of quality televsion drama and comed, NO reality television. Asthe network developed it would include more original programming, like home-grown Dramas and comedies makde direct for FE-TV

If I had my own television network, it would be named JBC and my schedule will consist of 15-20 animated sitcom and drama shows spread from Sunday through Friday, with movies on Saturday. I won't be showing any "classic" programming on my network, but I will be showing a 2-hour block in the afternoons. Pee-wee's Playhouse would be one of the shows on this block.

can't think of a catch name but it's pretty much like old school USA Network on Steriods (a mix of movies,off-network series,kids and teens programing,sports,and news that isn't fear mongering,sensationalized and biased

I agree. The man had at least one TV show on the air for nearly 40 years (1968-1989, 1990-2007), including time AFTER his death! His legacy lives on and will live on forever, and that's why there should be a cable network dedicated to him, his shows, and TV movies.

I tried to put "Charmed" on there somewhere, but I really couldn't find a place for it to fit well. "Summerland" would be something ideal for weekends, like Saturday mornings.

I guess you could go out and buy the entire series of Charmed... a lot of money but totally worth it!

My network would be:

No show would be shown more then once a day unless its a special airing. It would not be the same show everyday. It would be a weekly schedule that would allow for several shows to be shown.
I would prob do a line up for Mon-Fri of sitcoms to vary each day, Sat. cartoons, sitcoms and night time soaps (Dallas, Knots, Dynasty, 90210, Melrose etc), and Sunday have a made for TV movie played (prob 70-80's movie).

Maybe have specials from time to time like a whole weekend dedicated to:
only shows produced by Spelling entertainment
Lost Pilots
sitcoms with Oscar winners
tribute weekends to sitcom stars when they die or who have passed away.

I would prob do 4 hour blocks of each generation of TV Mon-Fri with a different show from each generation each day (but would stay the same from week to week)
for example:
Mon. 6PM - The Donna Reed Show
Tues. 6PM - The Pattie Duke Show
Wed. 6PM - Father Knows Best
etc

This is true but Aaron Spelling does not make crap shows. He is actually talented and put a lot of effort and hard work into his shows. You know how hard it is to be a television producer? You pretty much take all responsibility for the show. Something goes wrong and it's your head in the slammer.

I agree. The man had at least one TV show on the air for nearly 40 years (1968-1989, 1990-2007), including time AFTER his death! His legacy lives on and will live on forever, and that's why there should be a cable network dedicated to him, his shows, and TV movies.

7:00pm Some historical drama like The Tudors, or John Adams

8 to 10--'80s and '90s sitcoms--SBS, Wings, Friends, Seinfeld, Family Ties etc.

During the night: Real old comedies all night long: The Three Stooges, Abbott and Costello, Amos 'n Andy, and reruns of old variety shows (Ed Sullivan, Dean Martin, Sonny and Cher, Johnny Cash, Barbara Mandrell, Donny and Marie, plus old music shows like Hulabaloo--as well as series' like Dallas and the one-hour westerns, like Gunsmoke, Big Valley and Bonanza and High Chaparral.

Weekends: Political Commentary, BookTV, CSPAN reruns (hearings and the like) Senate and House Debates, House of Commons Prime Minister Time (Parliamentary debate). Also, major sports events (Golf and Baseball). And a classic movie double feature without commercials (TCM style) every Sunday afternoon.

This is true but Aaron Spelling does not make crap shows. He is actually talented and put a lot of effort and hard work into his shows. You know how hard it is to be a television producer? You pretty much take all responsibility for the show. Something goes wrong and it's your head in the slammer.

The days of these cable networks are fading away. The Hulu model is better... uncut shows, a variety of series not depended on ratings and a library from numerous sources. Cable nets now have to depend on original programming. As time goes on, and reruns are less valuable and more accessible, the nets will be more original branded programming.

It hadn't been done before that an hour drama had a cast of teenage characters and the show aimed towards a teen audience. Sure other shows had teen characters but were almost always from the parents or grown up point of view.

My dream network would air nothing but retro sitcoms and dramas. My TV network would be all classic sitcoms during the day. The 1950s shows would be first (Lucy, Beaver, Donna Reed, etc.), then the 1960s shows (Bewitched, Green Acres, Jeannie, Gilligan, etc.), and the 1970s shows (Barney Miller, Mary Tyler Moore, Bob Newhart Show, WKRP, Taxi, Brady Bunch, etc.).

In the evening/primetime slots I would air classic dramas. We'd have Little House on the Prairie, The Waltons, Family, Eight Is Enough, Hawaii Five-0, Charlie's Angels, CHiPS, etc. To cap off the night, we'd run the classic Twilight Zone last.

Here's the real selling point of my network:

I'm still in the process of putting my own network together. This is one of my favourite exercises on this site and I always look forward to getting it just right. Naturally, it would be full of nothing but classic sitcoms from the 50s and 60s---with NO Aaron Spelling shows whatsoever, unless you count his one appearance on "I Love Lucy", which was the height of his TV career. It was all downhill from there, which brings me to an idea that I have. This is something that you might want to apply to your own network and works best if you just want to have a Nick At Nite style lineup (8 pm to 1 am) or you want to have shows that ran for a long time, like about 200 episodes or more. This can be used for any series from any era.

I call this system "Jump The Shark TV". In the prime time hours, you would take a series and run the early episodes, the ones where the series was most popular with viewers and had the best episodes. Then, after 11 pm or midnight, you would run the same series, only in its later years, beginning with the one episode where you believe the show jumped the shark, which would be at a different point for different people. I'll give you an example of what I mean:

My dream schedule doesn't include shows that I can pull off my shelf and watch any time I like, day or night. Why do yours?

Aaron spent time and dedication into each of his pieces of work. He's iconic because he was genius about marketing shows to certain audiences. He also was never afraid to try anything new, i.e. 90210. He worked hard, came from bottom to top and changed the face of TV. A handful of actors owe him big thanks for making them famous.

Dude, the insults really, really need to stop. You have different tastes and opinions from others, and that's it, so I do not see why you feel the need to call people names because of it. Nobody's disrespected you or your opinion at all. Sure, we've disagreed with it, but there's nothing wrong with a mature disagreement. It's when people resort to name-calling that it gets to be a problem.

And the thing is, personally, I'd *love* to see most of the shows on your schedule, and I'd love for all of them to be somewhere on TV, but when I make my own schedules, I tend to think about the shows I've seen and that have brought constant entertainment to me. So, naturally, I think of the shows I've watched in reruns for most of my little life. I'm not extremely familiar with a lot of the shows from the 1950s and 1960s simply because I haven't had the chance to be familiar with them. I'd love to see them and know them and love them like I would any other classic TV show, but how can I if I've never seen them and there isn't a whole lot of information about them online? Of course, the blame should go to TV networks that are afraid of taking risks by airing these long-running but forgotten shows, but at the same time, when the name of the game is ratings, and the networks are desperate to have high ratings, it should be no surprise that they constantly grab the shows that have done well for them in the recent past. It sucks, and I wish it was different, but that's the way it is, unfortunately.

I remember watching Bob Cummings years ago on Nostalgia - in those reruns it was titled "Love That Bob" but I've seen it as both in syndication. Nostalgia is also where I used to catch Date with the Angels with Betty White every Saturday. Another great show of that era that comes to mind is "Meet Millie" with Elena Verdugo & Florence Halop.

Oh. Well, given that most people in the country don't have those channels (or never heard of them...I never heard of BlueHighways until now), I don't think it'd necessarily be accurate to say that Loretta isn't rarely-seen.

Aaron spent time and dedication into each of his pieces of work. He's iconic because he was genius about marketing shows to certain audiences. He also was never afraid to try anything new, i.e. 90210. He worked hard, came from bottom to top and changed the face of TV. A handful of actors owe him big thanks for making them famous.

Here's my thoughts on my dream "Timeless TV Network" also known as TTVN....it is a general entertainment network which specializes in all types of series that haven't gotten major exposure nationally lately. It is a combination of the way independent channels used to be run in the 70's... ....OF COURSE THIS IS ALL FICTION, but with all the recent DVD releases I am working towards actually being able to create this schedule in my home and pop them in the player and enjoy the way TV should be!
