I am not knocking the show at all, just curious what other people's opinions are. The concept was VERY similar to that of the Brady Bunch.

No I really don't think so because the brady bunch was set in the 70's and step by step was set in the 90's so they had different issues that they talked about. Also they didn't have anyone like Cody just cousin Oliver. And the kids instead of having the 3 girls for Carol the 3 guys for Frank they had Mark for Carol and Al for Frank. So any many ways it seemed like the same show but when you really pick it apart there are a lot of differences as well.

Personally, I think Marcia is not as pretty as Karen, IMO.

The blended family concept was also done after TBB in "Brand New Life", a shortlived Barbara Eden/Don Murray Disney series for NBC and "True Colors" a two season Fox sitcom, this one doing it interracial style.

Some people refer to the show as "The Brady Bunch of the 90's" but it is really different.

The only similarity I see is a mom with 3 kids, marries a dad with 3 kids. Many differences include, the families don't get along (TBB only had this a little in season 1) The kids treat their step parents like they're their step parents. They don't call them mom or dad. The episodes are very diffrent, The Camping one's the only one similar, but the premise is kind of diffrent. On SBS the mom and dad married each other on a whim, a week after meeting each other for the first time on vacation, without any of their kids knowledge. TBB got married after dating a long time, and their kids knew. And the kids were present at the wedding. Also (even though it's only during season 1) the grandma and aunt were a big part of the show. And they had another baby on the show.

I think that it was another 90's Brady Bunch for sure. No Doubt about that.

Well, I am knocking this show. This show was a cheap, low budget version of the Brady Bunch, and Patrick Duffy = SOFT.

The transitive property of Softness dictates that Patrick Duffy < Mr. Brady, Mr. Brady < Soft, therefore Patrick Duffy = SOFT.

Furthermore, Patrick Duffy also knocked off "Bingo Night in America" with his new show "Bingo".

That, my friend, is soft.

Furthermore, I failed to mention that Patrick Duffy and Mr. Brady both have perms. I am not sure how anyone could get softer than that.... I suppose you could group Richard Simons in with these guys.

While it did take a little bit from The Brady Bunch, I thought the personalities were a lot more vivid on Step By Step though & I really enjoyed S.B.S. for this. Truth be told, on a pure enjoyment level I liked S.B.S. quite a bit more than The Brady Bunch. However I do regard The Brady Bunch as the better show because of its iconic status as fine 70s nostalgia as well as for its durability.

IMO, Karen was WAY prettier than Marcia (Back then, a lot of young boys had a crush on Marcia).

Lot of young guys thought she was hot; personally, Marcia at her prime wasn't as curvy or as pretty as Karen.

Frank and MIKE didn't have perms. They had naturallly curly hair!

Can't you read I said Peter was not smart and JT was not smart. What does not to smart men, it means not smart as in dumb or average or a little below average.

Brady's went to the one In Calfironia while Lambers, Fosters went to the one in Florida. Where do you think they went with Oliver and said this is your lucky day you make number 10 and we gent in on a certain ride.

I never said Mark acted like a tough guy. I was refering to JT and his friend that dated Dana. On Brady Bunch it was Greg and Peter.

No that was not Disneyland, that was Kings Island in Cinncinati. And the one with Oliver was just some show. Peter wasn't dumb, he was never percieved that way, neither was Jan percieved as smart!

Exactly.

There were a lot of similarties between SBS and TBB. I think SBS gave a more realisitic look at blended families. There were disagreements on TBB but they all acted they had been a family their whole lives and Mike's sons called Carol mom and the girls called Mike dad. On SBS Frank and Carol had more realisitic relationships with their step kids but they did really care about them. Carol had a lot of great scenes helping Frank's kids. I remember episodes where Frank was very protective of Dana and Karen when they were dating and stuff. He also helped Mark out a lot. There also more serious episodes that focused on the older kids. I remember the episode where JT dated an older lady with a son and I sort of remember an episode where some guy at college tried to take advantage of Karen and Dana.
