View Full Version : Favorite season?
InspectorExstead 03-11-2008, 12:27 AM Out of the six I Love Lucy seasons, which one season is your favorite?
I know there are sooo many memorable episodes & they are all hilarious & unique in their own way. But my favorite season would have to be season 4 because that was the one where they went to Hollywood. It was nice to see a change from the apartment and the Tropicana club. Seeing them in different states & situations on the way was awesome. And then of course all of the situations Lucy got herself into when she got TO Hollywood! All of those episodes were hilarious & having other movie stars appear on the show was genius.
SPLAIN 03-11-2008, 09:30 AM Yes, season four and the Hollywood shows is my all time favorite also, Europe is next, maybe the country and the earlier seasons next, i think it would go like this, 4, then 5, then 6 tied with 2 and 3 and season 1 being my least favorite except for the one with Vitameatavegamin.
mase1322 03-11-2008, 08:27 PM I like the 4th also. 2 and 3 are also very enjoyable. 6 is ok but I really wasnt feeling season 1 either.
SPLAIN 03-12-2008, 09:21 AM I agree, 6 is just barely ok, it's on a par with season one, if they vould have had more great shows like the eggs it would have been different. But i really think they were running out of ideas by then.
Lodee 03-12-2008, 06:07 PM I don't really have a favorite, I just know it's not Season One.
I would say season 3. In fact, my favorite period is from season 2, after things get 'settled' from Little Ricky's birth and they change apartments, through most of season 4, including the trip across the country and the first few Hollywood eps. Most of the eps I really like are in that period... buying oil stock, Madame X, watching boxing on TV, equal rights, Lucy bets she can tell the truth... The first season had broader comedy than is necessary, then the pregnancy and childbirth eps and flashbacks, then comes the period of great character comedy that lasts for the rest of the run. But after they settled in their home-away-from-home in Hollywood, there begins the outrageous starstruck Lucy causing a disaster for every celebrity she meets, then they start going from one place to another continually, as if (truthfully) out of ideas for the NY apartment setting, then ending in the broken eggs, the lopsided brick barbecue ,and mowing down tulips in Connecticut. The series IMO was simply the best after the characters and setting got really adjusted to each other, but before they had to take the show elsewhere from the familiar setting.
SPLAIN 03-13-2008, 10:36 AM Very true, and they did so many shows back then in each season that they HAD to eventually run out of ideas, but character development really is the KEY to great comedy and they achieved that. They would do 35 shows a season sometimes, they do like 21 today, no wonder they ran out of ideas at 180 plus the 13 hour ones.
Whitter 03-18-2008, 02:09 AM I can't pick a favorite... but I do enjoy season 1... I must be the odd gal out (that's okay, I'm used to odd). Why is season 1 not cool for everyone else?
Lodee 03-18-2008, 12:21 PM I like some of the episodes in Season 1, but for me there are too many I don't like. For instance.........DRAFTED! I guess that's why it's not a favorite of mine.
SPLAIN 03-18-2008, 02:49 PM I can't pick a favorite... but I do enjoy season 1... I must be the odd gal out (that's okay, I'm used to odd). Why is season 1 not cool for everyone else? Because in any series, the first season they get used to the characters, they are establishing things, the people aren't as comfortable with each other yet and they still don't know what works best yet, but they developed it all by seasons end. I mean, come on, Vite is one of the eps so they had it going like a finely oiled machine by the tenth show or so, one of my all time favorites is The Fur Coat and that also is in these, so . . .
Whitter 03-21-2008, 12:44 AM I can respect those reasons, Lodee and SPLAIN. As a sapless romantic... I meant HOPELESS... I liked season 1 because of all of the sweet moments between Ricky and Lucy. Not that there weren't sweet moments in later seasons...
To contrast, I'd have to say season 6 was my least favorite. I didn't enjoy the Connecticut episodes as much as earlier seasons.
Benno123 03-21-2008, 10:04 PM I enjoy season 1 ... from about "Breaking the Lease" on, though there are still a few rough ones in there. However, I enjoy a few from earlier in the season before "Lease," but I can't decide which season I like the best. I love season 2 for the baby shows, but I like season 6 when everyone moves to Connecticut as well.
Season 5 I sometimes get bored with because of the Europe shows, and I can't stand "Lucy Goes to Scotland." However, if I ever can see the show in the colorized version then maybe I will appreciate it more!
Miss Kitty 03-22-2008, 08:34 AM I like seasons 1,2, and 3. I hate it when they start travelling to Europe, the country house, and when Little Ricky gets older AND I really hate the Scotland episode.
gotsmart 03-27-2008, 04:21 PM Favorite to least favorite:
Season 4
Season 2
Seasons 3 & 5 (tied)
Season 6
Season 1
InspectorExstead 03-27-2008, 08:43 PM and I can't stand "Lucy Goes to Scotland." However, if I ever can see the show in the colorized version then maybe I will appreciate it more!
ditto! out of all of the episodes on the show, that is the one i cannot stand to watch either.
Katya 04-15-2008, 10:44 PM Season five when they go to Eurpoe is my favorite part of the whole series.
Lucyeth's 12-13-2010, 02:45 AM So hard to decide - every season has a distinct highlight, it's hard to choose exactly which one had the highest of them all.
If I absolutely had to choose, it would be season three. I really can't find a word to describe it ... there are conflicting thoughts in my mind about the season, and I can't exactly choose a word to describe this whole season; the one that comes to the top of my head is fantastic.
Anyway - season three was the first season I had bought on DVD and had some of the first "Lucy" episodes I've ever seen; so it holds a near and dear place to my heart.
LucilleBallfan 12-19-2010, 01:11 AM 3, 4 and 6 are my favorites.
Benno123 12-19-2010, 01:56 PM Love 'em all, but if I had to choose just one season it would have the be second season with the baby episodes. No where else ever in television do I feel that the love of two people showed as much as it did between Lucille and Desi during those episodes.
rjt100 12-19-2010, 09:12 PM Is my favorite season. The Hollywood episodes are pure classic. The William Holden Brown Derby episode is the best episode of "I Love Lucy." This episode shows Lucille Ball at her best. I would rate the following seasons as follows:
2) Season 5
3) Season 3
4) Season 2
5) Season 6
6) Season 1
tvfreak1987 12-26-2010, 02:34 AM This is tough, but I'd say seasons 2, 4, and 6 are my favorites. Seasons 3 and 5 are right behind them, with season 1 bringing up the rear.
nvtlover 12-26-2010, 10:09 PM What happens if we rate the "7th,8th and 9th seasons as well? (The 3 seasons of The Lucy- Desi Comedy Hour)
1. Season 3
2. Season 2
3. Season 4
4. Season 6
5. Season 5
6. Season 1
7. Season 8
8. Season 7
9. Season 9
I think Lucy overall was a classic show. I didn't like some of the first season, but the show was great till season 5's Lucy Goes to Scotland and a couple of the other Europe Shows afterwards I didn't like. Then it was laughs again; but the move to the country home was to me refreshing and a nice change. Season 7 was great with tullah but the other shows only had their moments. The Lucy and Danny Thomas, Lucy Gets a Career and parts of Lucy and Red Skelton makes season 8 a delight. The last season I found it hard to watch because Lucy and Desi's comedy was gone and the Milton Berle and Ernie and Edie shows were not well written and funny, but Lucy Goes to Japan had hilarious moments.
tvfreak1987 12-26-2010, 10:30 PM As far as the Lucy-Desi Comedy Hours go, I only really really like "Lucy's Summer Vacation", "Lucy Hunts Uramium", the Japan episode, "Lucy and Danny Thomas", and "Lucy Gets A Career". The rest are mostly just OK.

"Lucy Wants A Career" is the last episode that really resembles the old ILL format. From there, in my opinion, the final four specials go down in quality, one after another.
Season 4 is probably my favorite. I liked when they went to Hollywood & met all those movie stars & also when Lucy & Ethel stole John Wayne's footprints. That was just a great season.

Bojackson999 02-14-2011, 04:32 PM My favorite season is 4. I love all of the Hollywood episode. It was fun to get a glimpse of old Hollywood through Lucy's eyes.
Close between seasons two and four. Then probably the first season, fifth and sixth.
Season 3, when it was happening, was not loved buy the critics, and I can see why. No real classic episodes came out of that season. I liked some scattered episodes in that season, but it's not one of the stronger ones.
