The Very Best of One Step Beyond, I found it at Walmart for $5 & bought it even though I don't remember ever watching it before. It's pretty good for an old show.

I bought The Stockard Channing Show and I actually really like it. It has that late 70s/early 80s feel to it.

I also bought Cagney & Lacey having only caught a few episodes growing up and I LOVE IT!!!

Hey Tubehead, did you mean Gimme a Break! If so, what do you think of it? I grew up watching it and I love the series. :)

I've done this a few times and it's worked out well.

30 Rock: After it won the Emmy for best comedy I picked up the DVD to see what I was missing. Great show!

Color Honeymooners: I had never seen it before the DVD came out. I had read about it and was curious to see it., Obviously the classic 39 are better.

Mary Hartman Mary Hartman: I had heard about and how contraversial it was so I picked up volume 1. I must say this is one of the strangest and quirkest sitcoms out there and I enjoyed the episodes.

I've only ever blind-bought one series and that was the Hardy Boys Nancy Drew Mysteries. I love late 70s television and the cast was great, so I knew it wouldn't let me down. I've since bought the second season too. :)

I bought La Femme Nikita - it was on sale at Best Buy for $19 and it retails there usually for $80 or so. I got season 1 and watched it through the whole season because I liked it so much and went back and got seasons 2-5 before the sale ended. Haven't finished watching all the seasons yet but still enjoy it.

I just bought season 1 of the hilarious Two and a half Men...
I had seen about a handful of episodes in syndication and have been watching season 5 on CBS and have fallen in love with the show!

BTW, for anyone of you considering buying the dvd sets, do so! The show has never looked better. It's presented in 16:9 letterbox!

Benson - I loved Soap for years, but I never bothered to watch Benson until it came out on DVD. I figured it was a Sony show, and might not get another release, so to support it, I bought the first season. It's not the funniest show, but for some reason, it grabbed me.

One Day at a Time - same reason as above.

227 - I bought the first season, loved it, and started watching it on TV One.

For Maude and Mary Tyler Moore, I hadn't watched Maude since it was in syndication for a little while in the late 70's, but I bought it anyways and really enjoyed it. I hadn't watched Mary Tyler Moore in years either, but bought it mainly for the nostalgic factor, and it turned out to be one of my favorite shows once again.

I hadn't seen much of "Lucy" before prior to my blind-buys of the first two seasons' worth. I just saw the first 8 episodes of the first season (the pilot and first 7 regular episodes), and I thought that they were pretty good. It is, however, the numerous bonuses that Paramount has provided that enhance the "Lucy" experience (such as flubs, Lucy's radio program, production notes, book readings, original openings, etc.) that really make the sets shine. I'd like to eventually get to the classic "Vitameatavegamin" outing (where Lucy has to pitch a health tonic by that name). "The Freezer" outing sounds like it might be a good one too.

Bought Naked City at Fry's Electronics. Cop drama set in New York from 1958-1963. Great show.

I Love Lucy's first season was probably my favorite season. Season 2 and 3 were great, too. I didn't particularly care for the Hollywood or Europe episodes in seasons 4 and 5, but there really isn't one horrible episode of Lucy. I agree, that the bonus features are what brought me to buy the sets.

I bought this one sight unseen as well - the eps I have are from season 3- watched a few eps then lost interest, then watched them again last year and found them very entertaining. My feelings are mixed about how they put out certain eps rather than whole seasons. Later I got another set of eps from the library that had an ep on it for which Diahann Carroll was nominated for an emmy. Glad I didn't pay $$$ for it, although that DVD was good viewing.

I bought Arrest and Trial from 1963 several months back and watched 1/2 an ep. Although the Naked City eps are older, the quality of the film in Arrest and Trial is poorer and I fell asleep watching it. Haven't watched any of the other eps on the DVD yet and don't care to.

That's My Mama- I saw this at age 7 so technically I did see it but had no real memory of it- it was a curiosity buy, there are worse ways to spend $30, but the show was cancelled for a reason.

Also bought Bill Cosby Show although I had seen 2 eps at the Museum of TV and Radio. It was worth it. But with this show since Cosby is so well known, you more or less have a sense of what you're getting into.

With youtube and other online sources it's easier to cut one's losses on these things.

I also bought the One Step Beyond discs at WalMart sight unseen and enjoyed the heck out of them. Just bought the 1954 Robin Hood series from WalMart as well (from the same video company as O.S.B. as well, Mill Creek) and am enjoying it IMMENSELY. It's actually one of the better retelling of the legends. Great find.

I bought season 1 of Heroes having never seen it as well. Also bought the first season of Psych, but my wife had seen some episodes, so I suppose that only sort of counts!

I bought ALF: Season One after watching a few episodes of TV Land's ALF'S HIT TALK SHOW. TVLand aired a few episodes of ALF after the premiere of TALK SHOW, but I think I only watched a few minutes in passing of the "Funeral for a Friend" episode. So ALF was a pretty blind buy, as I had never really experienced the original before.

THE JOHNNY CARSON SHOW, his earliest television gig, turned out to be a good blind buy as well. I had never watched a full episode of THE FLINTSTONES before I bought those season sets, only bits and pieces of some episodes when they turned up occasionally on Cartoon Network. But I had been familiar with the franchise--- one of my early favorite computer games was 2000's Bedrock Bowling, which in many ways motivated me to buy season one a couple years back. In the same fashion, I bought a few other Hanna-Barbera sets sight unseen: THE JETSONS, TOP CAT, and TOM AND JERRY.

Other blind buys for me include NEWSRADIO, OZZIE AND HARRIET, BURNS AND ALLEN, THE BOB CUMMINGS SHOW, PETTICOAT JUNCTION, and JACK BENNY.

Curb Your Enthusiasm

I don't have HBO but I heard alot about it.

My sister's friend bought her Season 2. I wanted to check it out but didn't want to start watching on S2. So I bought S1, liked both seasons so much, now I got the 1st 5 seasons.

Another one, I believe, is "Hardcastle and McCormick." I don't believe that I saw that much of it in its original run on ABC from 1983-86, but I purchased the DVD's of all three seasons' worth (made by VEI of Toronto, Canada) from Amazon, because I thought I might be interested. Sure enough, it held up very well throughout all three, and subsequently, I recently finished out the third and final season, and thus the series. Therefore, I would suggest that if you're looking for a great action series, this would be one to definitely consider.

I bought Quincy M.E. without ever seeing it. It was pretty good. I always enjoyed Jack Klugman on The Odd Couple.
