I think he guest starred on a couple episodes of Growing Pains once.

Why is Matthew being matched with John Ritter? They are not even from the same era as far as television shows are concerned. Nor is Matthew even in the same league as John. John lives on regardless of his untimely death. Besides, John had looks, Matthew...:puke:

JOHN RITTER IS THE BOMB!!!!

This isn't really much of a fair poll IMO, John and Matthew didn't quite execute the same type of comedy, John while known for his great comedic timing was also known for mastering physical comedy. Also their best known characters are nothing alike. Jack Tripper was definitely not as sardonic as Chandler Bing.

I agree, both are talented, they're just very different. Ritter was a great physical comedian, Perry was a great smart-ass. I have to admit that I like Perry better because I love sardonic humor, much like how Darlene was my favorite on Roseanne.

I do wonder how different the results would be if Perry had died and Ritter was still around. I've always enjoyed Ritter's work, but it seemed like once he died, everyone loved Three's Company moreso than ever before, it reminded me of how Nirvana was suddenly everyones favorite band in my class when Kurt Cobain was found dead, even tho a few weeks earlier, Nirvana was just "okay" compared to Pearl Jam and Stone Temple Pilots. Sometimes it's not fair to compare a living actor with a dead legend. The dead always seem to win over the living, just look at John Lennon over Paul McCartney and they were members of the same band.

i am not a huge fan of either of their shows, but if i had to choose it would be ritter- he was accomplished, more experienced and isn't known as a one-hit wonder. sorry friends fans, no offence but i always thought it was overrated, plus matthew perry will always be remembered as being chandler, and nothing less; in the same way that diff'rent strokes fans will always remember gary coleman as arnold jackson, and nothing else

I don't think it's fair to compare Matthew Perry to Gary Coleman. The only time he's ever on today or in the past several years, it's to continue to bitch about how he doesn't want to be recognized for Diff'rent Strokes and to go on about how bitter he is. Or to do appearances on shows saying he doesn't like saying "whatutalkinbout Willis" anymore. Matthew's also done several films. And even if Matthew will only be best known for Friends, at least he's not bitter about it and he's not a jerk to fans who've shown nothing but respect and admiration for him and the show that made him the most famous.

i wasn't trying to compare matthew with gary coleman. rather what i was trying to say is that matthew's only success is friends and is known by everyone in the wolrd for that one show. as for gary, gary will be in the eyes of DS fans as arnold and so i'm sorry if i gave you the impression that i was comparing their own successes because i wasn't

I voted for John Ritter. I do like Matthew though. I actually didn't really watch Three's Company that much but I think I liked him more on 8 Simple Rules it is sad he's dead.

Perry's had *some* success outside of Friends in movies, like The Whole Nine Yards and Fools Rush In. Maybe not as much as Aniston or Cox but I think Schwimmer and LeBlanc are the one-note celebrities from the show, while Perry has had some decent film work.

Some of these threads are like comparing apples to oranges. You can't compare two actors who are so diverse.

I can see comparing Matthew Perry with one of his co-stars, but not a man like John Ritter.

I did like him in the Whole 9 Yards. Matthew Pery is a very likeable actor. I never liked Friends but he does have some talent...much more than the 2 you just mentioned. He's not in John Ritter's league though and it has nothing to do with the fact that John died so suddenly. But to be fair to Perry we have to wait and see what his future holds to see if he is truely a one note wonder.

I voted for Matthew Perry, even though I also liked John Ritter as well. I really liked him in shows like Hearts Afire and Threes Company. I will make a comment that someone had made in reference to David Schwimmer. He may be always be known as his FRIENDS character , but he is also a brilliant theatre actor and also a talented drector as well. He can also add the title writer as well. Mathew is also an actor who can add the title of writer as well. Matthew also has directed and done some great dramatic work in films like NUMB and The Ron Clark Story
