View Full Version : Strange comment by Clair in episode-"Together Again and Again"
TVFactFan 03-01-2008, 02:00 PM As they were getting Theo's luggae together and taking it out tothe car, Clair says-"I think I will turn Theo's Room into my Office"
Why when he was just going to college?-lol Isn't that something you do when your child moves into their OWN PLACE??
Furienna 03-04-2008, 09:07 PM They really wanted the kids to move out though.
Ireneparalegal 03-04-2008, 09:32 PM What was the room that Cliff made for Claire?
Furienna 03-04-2008, 09:36 PM That must have been something, that they built later. With all those people living in that house, they needed all the bedrooms they could get.
Brieannas21 03-04-2008, 10:10 PM Theo was out of the house and living on his own. Once you've moved out, it's not your space anymore.
Furienna 03-04-2008, 10:17 PM That's not the way it is in our house. But then again, we don't have new people moving in here either.

When I went off to college that was the last time I lived in my parents home.
Keywords- My Parents home

So as a 18 year old with no money and no job, You are expected to STAY OUT???? Where can you go?
Furienna 03-04-2008, 10:33 PM That's true, Salomon. Some people move out after High School and never live with their parents again. But others have to live with their parents for a while their HS graduation, because their job doesn't pay much, or because they go to college or have an internship. For different reasons, I still live with my parents, and I'm 23 years old. And my siblings would be welcome to live here too, if they couldn't keep their apartments.

I moved out at 25. I graduated college and lived there for 2 more years

Theo had a place to go, it's called a Dorm, Well in his case an apartment, and during the summer he could have worked a full time JOB, when school started he could have worked Part time. Just because you're 18 doesn't stop your hands and feet from working. You get off your ass and get a job. If you're in a dorm you have no bills to pay, especially if your parents are paying your tuition and your dorm fees.

I think that's a lot to ask of a 18 year old
Furienna 03-04-2008, 10:46 PM The older you get, the more you should be able to handle. But that should happen gradually. And an 18-year-old is pretty much still a kid. So I agree there.
As a matter of fact, I don't get why Theo almost was forbidden to live at home. Remember how Cliff practically threw him out in the night? He went to school there in New York after all. It would have been much cheaper for his parents to keep him at home than in an apartment, since they paid his rents. But I guess they wanted him to become more responsible or something...

Exactly, 18 is way too young to just expect your child to be INDEPENDENT and pay bills and GO TO SCHOOL

Having your 18 yrold working during the summer and then working part time while in school to earn money, is asking for too much????

To have a JOB, no to have a APT and pay bills YES
Furienna 03-04-2008, 11:02 PM Working in the summer is one thing, but I've never understood how someone can have the energy to have a job after school. You will probably have homework from school, and you get no leisure time to just chill or have fun. Making extra money is good and all, but you shouldn't burn yourself out because of it.
Ireneparalegal 03-04-2008, 11:02 PM I know of no one who had their child out on their own. I guess when you grown up a certain way that is all you know and find it shocking when others do it differently. In my immediate family and my relatives, it is the norm to allow the child to still live in the home until they marry or finish their studies/education and establish themselves before leaving home. We are hispanic and that has a lot to do with it too. It seems to be the way things are done. My father was the type of man who felt education was the way to better yourself, so as long as you were working or furthering your education, you live at home, until you can move out or you get married.
Brieannas21 03-04-2008, 11:13 PM To have a JOB, no to have a APT and pay bills YES
Who in the hell said "Have a apartment and pay bills????? Where are you getting this?
If you read my post I said that Theo could have worked, yes he could earn his way. He wasn't paying rent, he was living in an apartment that his parents paid for. He could have gotten a JOB

Yes, he could have worked most definitely. As long as his rent was being paid by Cliff and Claire, there should not have been an issue.

Exactly
I never said that he should have been working full time going to school full time and paying rent. I just said that he could have been working
Ireneparalegal 03-04-2008, 11:19 PM Exactly

Theo needed to buy food, put clothes on his back, have spending money and pay for other essentials, so it would only be right for him to work if he could live in that apartment rent free. Everything can't be for free.

THANK YOU!!!! If your parents can pay your rent, then your ass can get up and get a job and feed, clothe and entertain yourself on your dime.

TVFactFan 03-05-2008, 12:37 AM I think we lost sight of my initial post. I was saying that it was stupid-"FOR CLAIR" to say she wanted to change Theo's room into a OFFICE when he would still be returning home for Thanksgiving and Christmas

Why would he need a bedroom for Christmas and Thanksgiving. He only lived in the city, it's not like he was in another state.
