View Full Version : Anyone else besides me who is in the "I Don't have a Flat Screen TV Yet" Club?
TVFactFan 02-26-2008, 04:58 PM Seems like so mnay people have one now, everyone in my family, and most of my friends, but I decided to get one around the same time DTV starts which is next february so until then I will stick with my 24 inch WIDE screen-lol
Who else doesn't have a flat screen? I hope I'm not the only one on here
PZelda 02-26-2008, 05:04 PM *raises hand*
I'm using a TV I've had since it was new, back in 1997. I'm a blue-collar worker- I'm not going to buy a freaking flatscreen unless I suddenly come into a lot of money or something. I'd like to buy a Macbook laptop first over a new TV. I just can't justify $1000+ on a TV that isn't going to be heavily used like a laptop.

yeah I think they are in the $600 to $800 range, The only reason my mom has one is because my little brother WON one off the internet
Max Whittaker 02-26-2008, 05:27 PM Nope. Probably will never actively seek to own one.
Courtnee 02-26-2008, 05:31 PM We don't either.
TVFactFan 02-26-2008, 05:33 PM My cousin has one because of her income tax and my aunt has one because of Case Money and they had the nerve to ask me when Am I going to join the club since I have the money to buy one? Not Now-lol
friendsfan77 02-26-2008, 05:38 PM I want one but I'm not getting one until I need to buy a new one. The one I have now suits me just fine.
Chelsea 02-26-2008, 06:38 PM Were it not for a fateful trip to Circuit City last September, I might be in this club.

How much after taxes?
Chelsea 02-26-2008, 07:43 PM How much after taxes?
~$424, give or take a couple of bucks. (Kentucky has a 6% sales tax, 6% of $400 is $24...)

Doesn't sound to bad, I would defintely do the split, 222 on my bank card and 222 on my credit card. Oh I forgot about debit cards, i mean 424 on my credit card and send them 222 of the 424-lol
Dr. John Becker 02-26-2008, 09:12 PM I don't yet have one, but I have been looking into buying one.
PZelda 02-26-2008, 09:39 PM yeah I think they are in the $600 to $800 range, The only reason my mom has one is because my little brother WON one off the internet
Exactly. And don't you have to mount it to the wall? I mean, sure, it has a base so you could put it on a TV stand. But urg. I'm sorry, but there is no way I am mounting a TV to my wall (kills my neck). I know they're wide because of the widescreen deal... I think some of them are too stupidly wide. At the moment, I definitely do NOT have room at home for a freakishly wide TV. The TV cart I have for my TV fits my, umm I think 21" or 23" REGULAR TV (can't remember exactly) just fine, and would fit a 25" REGULAR TV just fine were I to switch TVs.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this.

I spent about $550 on mine. Which I'm still paying on, but overall that's not bad.
I bought one more as a space saver than anything. I wanted a TV to hang on the wall so I could have more floor space in my bedroom since I bought this freakishly huge bed.

Depending on where you buy it, you can have it hung for you. Or you can set it on a table. Mine is not so high that I have to strain my neck to look at it. Seems almost natural to me.
And to reduce the wideness, just get one with the speakers on the bottom instead of the side.

Good, good. THank you :) That's great advice, btw - didn't think of the speaker thing.
If I ever have a flatscreen TV mounted, it's going to be at about chest-level. Not high up on the ceiling, like a lot of people like to do.
I have to admit... it'd be nice to have a flatscreen in my bedroom, since it's 96 sq ft and I have no room for a regular TV in there.
Mikado 02-26-2008, 11:45 PM Regular non HD is perfectly fine for me; HD TV gives me a headache anyway, A pox on it!!!
junecleaver 02-27-2008, 12:05 AM We have 4 HDtvs in my house but for some reason these HD tvs are sloooooow. When you channel surf on any of them, it pauses between, and it takes forever to go through the channels. So i don't do that anymore. Plus, if you are sitting at a certain angle, the screen appears black (especially during the day) and you can't see it unless you move. Sometimes, you accidently hit one of the 1000 buttons on the remote and voila, you've screwed up the tv and there's no way back.
In my room, i have a regular TV and i love it, channel surfing is fast and there's no special buttons and stupid things that i can do to mess up my tv. Bascially has a button for channels, volume, power, and a menu. Easier than the complicated, slow HDTVs. The only thing i like about HDTVs is that most of them are not bulky. If only they can make regular tvs like that.
OH Nuts! 02-27-2008, 02:12 AM Me -I'm a slow poke- why, I just got a color TV 4 1/2 yrs ago -b4 that B&W
Mikado 02-27-2008, 02:40 AM :eek2:
ponytail 02-27-2008, 06:42 AM We don't have one yet. Our main tv ( the one in the family room ) died a few weeks ago. So we haven't decided what kind of tv to get.
Coffeecup 02-27-2008, 06:28 PM I am waiting till the end of the year. Maybe xmas. Feb 09 is the switch to Digital hub bub and and til then I am fine. My brother has one and they are so thin and light.. It is hard to think all the wires, circuits are in that skinny box. It will take me a little time to see a rectangle screen vs the square streen. The shape is sure changing. My grandparent saw an oval round screen.
Crimson and Clover 02-27-2008, 06:54 PM we dont have one. ours is from the 90s
Karen* 03-01-2008, 11:01 PM LOL, my mom bought one on Black Friday last year but my dad made her return it because it wasn't good enough. We still don't have one.
Mr. Television 03-01-2008, 11:07 PM My current tv is good enough for now. I'm not buying one just to have one. lol
