Since this topic is here, let me ask, you know how you always hear on the commercials, "If you don't have ___________(station), call your cable provider and ask them to add it to their line-up."

DOES THAT REALLY WORK? :confused: I mean, I would think if they have the channel/station, they would air it right? Or do they mean, if your cable company gets enough requests for a certain channel, they can add it to the line-up?

I think it does work. Years ago, there was a HUGE campaign to get TV Land on my local cable provider. I must've called like 50 times! We did end up getting it. :lol:

Yeah I guess Comcast is different in certain areaslike my Mom who lives 10 mins away also has Comcast and has the GSN too.

Aw HELL NO! Those are some great channels. I love FN and Discovery has some awesome shows like DIRTY JOBS, SURVIVORMAN and a slew of others.

TV Land lost it's edge after 2003

I noticed that too. I got cable again in 2003 and was for the most part disappointed in MTV and wound up tuning out completely after about a year... not enough music. MTV2 is just as bad. Same with TVLand... it wasn't as fun anymore after about a year.

However, they also have On-Demand and we don't; but they have a cable box, and we don't. Also, they have on-screen listings, and we don't, and the remote control is a different one from ours; but Comcast has 2 kinds of cable: digital and non-digital. Because when we had a cable box, we had on-demand and all those other channels I mentioned. And when Comcast changed the channel numbers, (put ABC on #4 instead of #5, etc.) we got a flyer in the mail that listed the new numbers for all the channels and next to some of them there was a star, and it said "AVIAIBLE TO DIGITAL SUSCRIBERS ONLY".

It's time for me to upgrade my box, I had this same box since 2000-lol

How so?

Less fragmentation = bigger audiences = greater ad revenues = more network money = less cheap-to-produce junk.

There would be less variety, but the quality would rise. Especially for sitcoms.

yeah I think American Life airs The Man from Uncle my dad likes that show and we don't get that channel either. I just checked the schedule my parents would definetly love this station I think I emailed them once to add it but they never did. My parents would love to see Mary Tyler Moore and Newhart.

I wish we could customize our channels. There are so many channels that we have that I never watch, like we have 5 Spanish stations. Is that necessary?

In January I got a call from Comcast saying they will loan us a free cable converter box. They mentioned how the country is going digital in Feb of 09. and they wanted customers to get hooked up now.
They hooked up us with classic digital and preferred stations a few HBO stations and music stations. I somehow didn't read the paper they gave us too well. Now a days you have to read everthing for no one really explains things well. Anyway got my bill to pay for March and it went up $38. 00. I read the paper and it just says free converter for a year. Well for the past month and half I've seen maybe 3 stations that I would keep. Encore westerns. They show Gene Autry shows, Bat Masterson, and Big Valley. Once and while I poke into the Game show Network and see Let's make a deal or Password. If I missed my soap I could pick it up on Soapnetwork. But for $38.00 more a month it's not worth the money. We don't go digital til Feb so I can hold off buying a new tv til then.
So yes I do wish we could pick and choose certain stations. One I had a year ago was American Life but Comcast didn't pick it up when we had to leave Adephia Cable company. Adephia had bankrupty problems.
