View Full Version : So, I Went With My Son On His Date
My son's been talking to this girl on the internet, she lives in our town but goes to a different school, so they've never met. Saturday, they decided to meet at the Mall & go see a movie. The girls parents wanted to meet us first, so we met at Borders Book Store and the mom asked if I'd be close by. And I jokingly said I could go to the movie with them and she said "oh good, I was worried about leaving her here". So I ended up seeing Over Her Dead Body with the teens. I didn't sit with them though, my son insisted that I sit down near the front
TripperFan 02-19-2008, 08:13 PM  !! When I first read the title of this thread I thought it was another "Janice Johnston Scenario"!! ;)
There's got to be a sitcom somewhere that covered this though - folks - start the list!
Mikado 02-19-2008, 08:29 PM Im sure your son would have prefered to be dead than go on a date with Mom!
dawsongirl 02-19-2008, 09:13 PM So did they hit it off?

It was a little awkward, I really wasn't planning on staying at the Mall & watching a movie with them.

You should have seen his expression when he realized I was going with them.
So did they hit it off?
Yeah, they seemed too. She giggled a lot. She's 15 & my son's 16. After the movie I went back to Borders Bookstore and they went to play games at the Arcade. I had to wait about an hour for them to get through with their date. I sure hope I don't have to go on anymore teen dates.

Janice 02-20-2008, 06:20 PM That's a real cute story. Definitely out of a sitcom. :)

So True! They'd talked on the phone quite a bit and sent each other pictures, but still they'd never met in person before saturday.:)

Some of the things that come up with my husband & son would definitely fit in a sitcom episode.

Ireneparalegal 02-20-2008, 09:38 PM Good job!!!!! You did the right thing. Although your son was awkward abt it, he will look back some day and appreciate what you did. ;)

 You probably thought you were done with that whole date thing!
Dean Winchester 02-20-2008, 10:42 PM does your son drive, or need your transportation? You said 16, since I don't think many 16 year olds with a license would agree to take their mom on a date with them, if anything, they'd be mortified of the idea

He has his learner's permit but me or my husband have to be in the car with him when he drives. We have that graduated license thing here in Tn., so you have to go through several steps before you get a regular license. Anyway, I had to go with him to meet her parents since they'd never met in person before. And I really didn't plan on going to the movies with them, but I kind of painted myself into a corner with the girl's parents. I hope not to do that again.

Now you know it wouldn't have been that bad.

actually, it's kind of nice to see something happen in reverse for a change. The girls parents are usually the overprotective jerks, nice to see the boys parents be that way for a change. I actually think it's a real double standard. My older brother has two kids, and his daughter is a year older than his son, but yet he had a "my son's a pimp!" attitude when he'd go out on dates while he'd be the worst father ever to his daughter's boyfriends.

"Shooting arrows" means basically the same thing as "looks that could kill" only, you do it ALL with the eyes :D (usually looking out the corners of the eyes, to be less conspicuous  )
