As much as I love "I Love Lucy" and am greatful that it was released unedited, it's time to see Lucy's other hilarious shows. Hopefully all the fans will write to CBS in a respectful way and we can get their attention! Thanks for the address! rjt100 02-14-2008, 05:45 PM I had gotten a return call from Ken Ross' secretary. She was very sweet but not very helpful. I told her about this site and she did take the time to look at it while I was on the phone. She claimed that Mr. Ross is not the only person who would be responsible to bring The Lucy Show to DVD. She told me to call back in a month or so. I told her that next time I call back I would hope to speak to Mr. Ross and get some more feedback. I also had told her that I couldn't believe the crap that CBS/Paramount has been releasing and that I had bought "The Untouchables" season 1 volume 2 because they had an episode of "The Lucy Show" in the release (Lucy the Gun Moll - a classic). I will not give up. "The Lucy Show" is a comedy classic and should be released in 2008.  RJT100 hillman 02-16-2008, 12:20 PM  i would like to find out if anyone knows on which Lucy Show DVD Set that has The Black & White Season 1 episode 7 Title (Lucy Is A Kangaroo For A Day) on it i have been trying to find out for a very Long Time so if anyone on Sitcoms Online Knows which one it is then please contact me at hillsstuart2@msn.com as soon as Possible,- Sincerely yours- Hillman :happyface  :talk: Jude The Obscure 02-16-2008, 05:23 PM  i would like to find out if anyone knows on which Lucy Show DVD Set that has The Black & White Season 1 episode 7 Title (Lucy Is A Kangaroo For A Day) on it i have been trying to find out for a very Long Time so if anyone on Sitcoms Online Knows which one it is then please contact me at hillsstuart2@msn.com as soon as Possible,- Sincerely yours- Hillman :happyface  :talk: That episode is not any DVD set (legally) or in the public domain issues. ethelmaepotter 03-04-2008, 11:57 PM I just don't understand why they don't release this show. I have heard it is because they don't feel there is enough demand for it. It doesn't make sense, especially when they release so many shows with undoubtedly lesser demand. I wish someone could explain how they can release 30 episodes of series on DVD from all these different dealers and Paramount can claim it is because the copyright "lapsed" on those particular episodes. Is the copyright held on an entire series rather than per episode anyway? algebra74 03-13-2008, 04:57 PM I called today and the Executive assistant told me that the Lucy Show is currently in the works. She said that they have received numerous requests for that show, and that it should be out within the next year. I also inquired to see if Gregg Oppenheimer would be involved in the production as well, and she said that she believed so. This means that we should have high-quality sets like I Love Lucy with plenty of extras! Great news...so stop buying those awful public domain DVD's (I picked up some myself from Cracker Barrel a few months ago)! Benno123 03-15-2008, 09:58 PM If indeed this information is true (I'm not doubting you, I'm just saying if the executive secretary wasn't just blowing smoke or had her information wrong) then this is the best information I've heard in a long, long time! Thanks for the great news!!!! Robert 13 03-18-2008, 12:28 PM I was just searching around the net for any news on the forthcoming release and was just about giving up hope that they would release Season One. I'm glad I read this post. Thanks for sharing the advance news with us! I am excited to hear it is "in the works" and I look forward to buying it on the day of release. I hope it is a "Complete First Season" set. I have a feeling this is gonna be a huge seller for CBS. :) Jude The Obscure 03-19-2008, 11:35 PM THAT WOULD BE SO AWESOME!!!!! Season 1 is bound to be a huge seller for CBS, which would encourage at least seasons 2 and 3 to get released!! ethelmaepotter 03-28-2008, 11:30 PM Don't get your hopes up. They will tell you anything to get you off the phone. I will believe only when tvshowsondvd.com officially announces it. Thanks Ethel Mae...I totally agree. The secretary was most likely using a tactic to get them off of the phone. However, I hope I am wrong and that The Lucy Show is in the works. My contacts still say it is NOT in the works. I only hope these rumors aren't discouraging people from letting their voice be heard to CBS. We need to keep writing in until the release is offically reported. We need to have more people leaving messages and writing letters. JaneTVFan 04-24-2008, 01:23 AM I called today and the Executive assistant told me that the Lucy Show is currently in the works. Great news...so stop buying those awful public domain DVD's (I picked up some myself from Cracker Barrel a few months ago)! I hate to burst your bubble, but I am very dubious about this. The key giveaway is the claim that Gregg Oppenheimer is involved. It sounds to me like she was just trying to get you off the phone. The only reason Gregg was involved with the I Love Lucy DVDs is that his father conceived the idea for that series, and produced the first five seasons. Gregg was involved mostly as a labor of love to preserve his father's legacy. Gregg wasn't involved in the seasons 7-9 DVD, so I certainly can't see him being involved in any Lucy Show DVDs. His father had NOTHING to do with The Lucy Show, so I can't see how Gregg would have any interest in working on that series at all. Besides, there was some bad blood between Jess and Lucy for several years as he had filed a lawsuit claiming Lucy Carmichael was a continuation of Lucy Ricardo, which was partly his inspiration. storrs19 04-26-2008, 01:25 PM It has been one year now since The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour set came out and still nothing about The Lucy Show. It is very frustrating how studios think that the only shows that wil sell well are the ones played to death on tv. I Love Lucy, The Andy Griffith Show, and of course all the modern garbage. Don't get me wrong, I love the above two shows and own them complete in my dvd collection but I want the rest of Lucy's shows as well because they were very good shows. This is why people (myself included) buy so many grey area dvd sets. Yes, they are edited and taped from tv but it is better than waiting until I am dead before these shows get an offical release. I understand your frustration. I'm surprised Season 1 of "The Lucy Show" hasn't hit stores yet. It's much loved by Lucy fans as it most-resembles the Lucy-Ethel adventures from "I Love Lucy". I think we will see this released at some point, the question is why are they taking so long? This should be riding on the tales of "I Love Lucy" being completed on dvd. Jude The Obscure 05-03-2008, 10:47 AM It could be that CBS is taking the time to make sure the remastering is done properly. Also assembling good extras also takes work. Sony rushed Bewitched season 5 and it showed--it is the poorest looking set by far, which is why Season 6 was delayed--to make sure the show was properly remastered. So hopefully CBS is doing this. I can't see any reason why CBS wouldn't want to keep on releasing every Lucy product it owns--it just means more money. There is a generation that has grown up now that has only seen ILL and I'm sure to see The Lucy Show now would be like "new" episodes :) ethelmaepotter 05-27-2008, 12:36 AM I read an earlier post here asking why Gregg Oppenheimer would be involved in a "The Lucy Show" release. Quite simply, Gregg's father Jess, owned the "Lucy" character outright. One day, he was reviewing his "I Love Lucy" contract and discovered that he owned the character. Essentially, the "Lucy" character was the same in all three of Lucy's series. It was my understanding that Jess Oppenheimer sued Lucille Ball or her production company and won a sizable sum in 1974. Much to the chagrin of Lucille Ball who was not pleased at this revelation. So, I believe that Oppenheimer collected residuals from all Lucy shows because of that. Mr. Oppenheimer must have had enough money to own his own island! Jude The Obscure 05-27-2008, 05:10 PM It was stated in internal memos while developing The Lucy Show that "the character of Lucy Carmichael shall be based on Lucy Ricardo". rjt100 05-28-2008, 02:48 PM GREAT NEWS! Ken Ross of CBS Home Entertainment left a message on my answering machine yesterday (5/27/08) and informed me that "The Lucy Show" will be coming out on DVD in early 2009. Mr. Ross did agree that "The Lucy Show" is a great property and a good follow-up to "I Love Lucy." Mr. Ross cited the delay for "The Lucy Show" is due not only to the the public domain episodes but to music cost and restoration cost. He now believes that due to the fans requesting "The Lucy Show" it's worth the investment. Every Lucy fan should continue to leave messages or write letters to Mr. Ross so that we do get all six seasons released. I will personally leave a message for Mr. Ross and thank him for getting back to me. "The Lucy Show" is a great sitcom and Lucille Ball is the best sitcom actress of all time. :) :) :) :) Robert 13 05-28-2008, 03:20 PM GREAT NEWS! I can understand the need to take the time to properly restore the series! But the public domain episodes wouldn't be an issue if CBS had never dragged its feet in the first place. Luckily we have mainly the California era in the public domain. The build up for the demand for the Danfield era will be great IMO. TeeVeeCloset 05-29-2008, 09:54 AM GREAT NEWS! "The Lucy Show" is a great sitcom and Lucille Ball is the best sitcom actress of all time. :) :) :) :) This is fantastic news, one very slight worry, so I want to bring it up now...obviously hopefully they are remastering and will of course issue unedited episodes, hopefully with all the cast commercials as bonuses. MY worry is...the 3 different original openings were replaced about 10 years ago in syndication with the last opening, they even made it in black & white for season 1, these were used on Nick at nite....I always loved the different "Lucy Show" openings and just want to bring this up sooner than later if something should happen! Lee G 05-29-2008, 11:17 AM I'm not a big fan of Lucy, but I do like The Lucy Show better than I Love Lucy. Comparing the two, I think The Lucy Show is the better show. As far as the episodes having the original openings, for me the main thing is for the episodes themselves to be all original and uncut. If CBS is issuing the DVD's, beware because they are notorious for issuing cut/edited episodes of old shows, just look at how they've butchered and hacked up some of the Gomer Pyle episodes. I think the thing to do is take this news with a grain of salt, don't have high expectations and read reviews on the first season set when it comes out before shelling out any bucks for it. Hopefully the episodes will be all complete and original, but my gut feeling is that at least some episodes will be compromised in some way or another. Scenes that contain music stand a good chance they will be cut or replaced with different music. TeeVeeCloset 05-29-2008, 11:27 AM I'm with you lee g. about paramount/cbs....there is NO EXCUSE for what they did to the odd couple & gomer pyle, not to mention the all time worse release ever Happy Days 2. I started a thread naming MPI (only my opinion of course) as the best current classic TV releasing company and I've been having fun "battles" with posters defending Paramount. It is all about quality over quanity for me. btw, continued good luck with patty duke and we'll be in touch! ethelmaepotter 05-31-2008, 01:36 PM GREAT NEWS! "The Lucy Show" is a great sitcom and Lucille Ball is the best sitcom actress of all time. :) :) :) :) Let's hope this is legit. I think they have released false info before to get people to stop calling and writing. Benno123 06-03-2008, 08:38 AM I have a feeling that this information is legit. The problem is .... do I buy the idea that it will be out next year? I have no doubt the shows are being remastered and getting geared for release, I just wonder how much faith there is in a massive Lucille Ball release that isn't I Love Lucy related. bradsupremes 06-03-2008, 08:27 PM The problem with nobody really knowing about her later series is the television networks themselves! TV Land is a prime example because they feel "The Lucy Show" would not bring in an audience like "I Love Lucy." How do they know that? They base it off of old information. "The Lucy Show" has not been on national television since it ended its run on Nick at Nite back in 1996. And if "I Love Lucy" was such a big draw like TV Land states, then why did Nick at Nite acquire "The Lucy Show" first before "I Love Lucy?" These networks feel that "I Love Lucy" is the only thing people only care about and they push aside her later series. To me, that's a slap in the face to Lucy and her legacy. I truly hope that CBS/Paramount releases all six seasons of "The Lucy Show" with the same treatment that "I Love Lucy" received. There's more to Lucy than just "I Love Lucy!" The copies Nick at Nite used were the old CBS Daytime copies--not the copies used for broadcast syndication. When Columbia House issued a 5 volume VHS set in the '90s, these copies were uncut and had the original openings, along with the then current Paramount logo. I truly believe CBS will be using pristine copies as well as the original openings. Jude The Obscure 06-04-2008, 07:15 AM The problem with nobody really knowing about her later series is the television networks themselves! Not to defend Nick at Nite, but they acquired TLS first, because TBS had the rights to I Love Lucy (and had them for a loooooong time). When TBS' rights expired, Nick swooped in and bought the show. Benno123 06-04-2008, 08:57 AM I think some great bonus material, besides the cast commercials, would be the "Opening Night" shows that CBS aired at the start of the seasons to promote what was new and what was coming back for the fall TV season. Also, I'm pretty sure all three of the kids are still alive so commentary would be fun to have! Jude The Obscure 06-04-2008, 09:36 AM since Lucie and Desi Jr. also made guest appearances (esp in the first season), they could add commentary as well! Robert 13 06-04-2008, 10:57 AM I wish they would bump up the release for Christmastime since Season 1 has the Christmas episode as well as the New Year's Eve Party episode. Both are fun! :) Benno123 06-04-2008, 02:42 PM Nah, what they're banking on is that the set gets released in a time when sets won't sell as many (such as the holiday season) so the set sells, but the numbers seem to be a lot smaller than what the company hoped. Therefore a Season 2 will be delayed or just not released resulting in: 1) CBS saying "See, we knew no one was interested in anything besides I Love Lucy." 2) Fans asking where the second set is and the replied coming back "We can't justify spending that much when the first set only sold "XXX" copies." 3) Fans continue to ask for more official releases, and the reply comes back "You got your first season, what more do you want?" Look at what happened with The Mary Tyler Moore Show and The Bob Newhart Show. Robert 13 06-04-2008, 03:17 PM The most confusing part of CBS not deciding to release The Lucy Show sooner is that they are releasing Gomer Pyle at a steady pace. I'm not slamming that release but is that series selling that well?!?! Jude The Obscure 06-04-2008, 06:02 PM I wish they would bump up the release for Christmastime since Season 1 has the Christmas episode as well as the New Year's Eve Party episode. Both are fun! :) And both are all time faves of mine!!! Classics indeed :) Jude The Obscure 06-04-2008, 06:06 PM Considering how the public domain releases continue to sell and keep getting repackaged by other companies, CBS is the one losing out. Two years ago, when Genius Products issued out a Lucy Show DVD for $1--that release made the national bestseller charts. Jude The Obscure 06-04-2008, 06:08 PM The most confusing part of CBS not deciding to release The Lucy Show sooner is that they are releasing Gomer Pyle at a steady pace. I'm not slamming that release but is that series selling that well?!?! I think Gomer may be more an TAGS tie-in release, but then one can argue where is Mayberry RFD? Esp season 1, which has the rarely seen wedding of Andy and Helen-you would think that would be a natural for a release! TeeVeeCloset 06-05-2008, 09:26 AM Not to defend Nick at Nite, but they acquired TLS first, because TBS had the rights to I Love Lucy (and had them for a loooooong time). When TBS' rights expired, Nick swooped in and bought the show. techinically not true, TBS had the lucy show for many years in the early 80's, one of the timeslots was weekdays at 8:30AM eastern. I still have my recorded tapes. it was then dropped for bewitched which ran for many years as well. Jude The Obscure 06-05-2008, 09:42 AM I'm not talking about the Lucy Show, I was referring to I Love Lucy being on TBS. I taped TBS last day of airing I Love Lucy (Yule Love Lucy) before Nick start airing I Love Lucy. TBS had long since dropped TLS by the time N@N began rerunning it. The last time TBS aired TLS was like at 4am on some mornings (I had taped those and they had the original openings) in the late 80s. lplucyfan 06-22-2008, 06:03 PM MY worry is...the 3 different original openings were replaced about 10 years ago in syndication with the last opening I wouldn't worry too much about this. The Columbia House releases had the proper openings for seasons 1 thru 3. The only mistake they made was there were 2 openings for season 3: one with a credit for Vivian and one without, depending on whether she was appearing that week. The season 3 Columbia House episodes used the opening without her credit, even though she was in the episode. Also on season 2 opening they didn't have the music synched up correctly with the video, but this is easily fixed. Benno123 06-24-2008, 08:50 AM I just hope they release the 5th season so we can see the original Lucy In The Box opening that was suppose to be terrible. I've been wanting to see that one forever but never have -- yet! TeeVeeCloset 06-24-2008, 10:16 AM I just hope they release the 5th season so we can see the original Lucy In The Box opening that was suppose to be terrible. I've been wanting to see that one forever but never have -- yet! Just my opinion but if the 5th season is ever released I highly doubt it will be with the rare opening but it would be a great extra but if cbs/paramount is releasing will never see extras either. Jude The Obscure 06-27-2008, 11:32 PM The 5th season Lucy in the Box opening is available on Youtube. sigmapi30 07-02-2008, 10:00 PM ok so i am losing faith on The Lucy Show being released. ILL The Complete Series was released 10-07 and still no news :( FilmMaker781 09-10-2008, 03:05 PM Everyone should keep writing to CBS/Paramount for an official release of “The Lucy Show.” I am also extremely worried that if "The Lucy Show" does in fact get an official release that CBS will use music replacements just as they have done for ALL of their other classic TV releases. If that happens I just hope and plead to our loyal fans that they do not boycott the title on this ground. Successful sales of a season one release are absolutely crucial or we most certainly will not have the opportunity to see any more from the beloved Ms. Carmichael and in COLOR no doubt. The music unions are simply not making it easy on all of our favorite shows and especially since the studios want to clear the music in perpetuity. I also would venture to say that the restoration of 30 episodes is not a cheap feat in and of itself. If you have already written to CBS, please write again. And if you have not written to them, what are you waiting for?! They need to hear from all of the loyal consumers who will make their investment on the restoration and clearance worth their while. Let them know you want to purchase an official beautifully restored and unaltered version of “The Lucy Show” with all of its music intact.
