I wonder what Elly thought when Granny cooked possum stew or gopher gravy. As much as she loved critters, how could she eat that?

I think it's because where they used to live, in the woods, they had to go hunting for their own dinner.

I don't know what season it was when Jeds counsin came and pretended he was a movie star. He was up in bed and was about to come down the stairs. Everybody was downstairs waiting to watch him. They never saw a movie star walk down the stairs. Elly was in the forure with all her critters. Granny and Jed stood in front of Elly and the crltters so they could watch. Elly was mad at them and said, get out of the way, the critters want to watch too. I thought not only was that funny that she thought the critters would watch but I never herd her be that "abrupt" to Jed and Granny.

Elly may have had the view that a LOT of ppl have. Most ppl seem to think that some animal's lives are not as important as others, and see some animals on human levels almost while others are just meant to be eaten.

Like my cousin is a huge animal lover of things like dogs, cats, rabbits, etc... but has no problem eating sausage, hamburger and things like that.

So maybe Elly, like a LOT of ppl, saw things like possum as things mean to be eaten. I don't recall Elly ever having any pet possums or anything.

Though she WAS against Granny cooking the turkey for Thanksgiving.

I wonder if Granny ever threatened to make vittles out of one of Elly's critters.

biscuits...lol.

Elly did seem to want to cook -- oftentimes in the later seasons, the Clampetts had to bury her culinary creations to get rid of them. Remember the donuts and coffee she cooked for Jed? And in Silver Dollar City, a new use was found for a cake she baked in the competition.
